  1. Why can't companies just respect the fact that Netflix won fair and square. Paramount and Trump are going to be trouble for the Warners.
  2. This. Why would you pay up the nose for content that you could get on Paramount+/Peacock/Disney+ when those networks barely care enough to throw a lifeline to their affiliates. The only network that hasn't seen many defections is NBC. Mainly because NBC not only provides compelling live programming (key word is "live") but has also managed to retain its performance in the age of streaming. This is mainly due to Comcast wisely managing their entertainment assets, even though their roots are in cable, they have shut down several cable networks and have even spun off 99% of its cable networks due to changing logistics. NBC is as lean and efficient as FOX despite them not opening a studio. There is more value of being an NBC affiliate than CBS or ABC at this point.
  3. they also brought back the KCAL 9 logo they had before complete with the circle and the number.
  4. I'll be surprised if the Netflix deal gets completed. Paramount still wants the entirety of WBD but I'm guessing they have to settle for the leftover cable networks.
  5. I really like the new CNBC graphics package. I'm indifferent about the logo. It's serviceable and I don't know how it could of been made better. It's missing something though...
  6. Skydance or not, CBS News has always been poorly managed since the late 80's. It's become more apparent over the years that CBS News is just a revolving door with no stability and that's from me observing the CBS Evening News and what used to be The Early Show.
  7. John and Maurice are now officially the shortest lasting Evening News anchors in recent history. Wikipedia doesn't have it updated yet but here's a list anyways. CBS Evening News might as well be a revolving door at this point. I can't believe that only Katie Couric, Scott Pelley and Norah O'Donnell lasted 5-6 years while Jeff Glor only managed 2 and now the duo of John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois will finish out their year long run as the shortest tenured duo in evening news history. How can CBS fumble their news department this hard?
  8. truly sad to see Scripps of all companies vulnerable to a takeover attempt by a slightly better performing company that it itself is not doing too good either but they did it to themselves.
  9. Heavily curious but is there any future possibility of future videos being uploaded in 60FPS?
  10. Just looking at that studio and I'm amazed that NewsNet/MI News lasted as long as it did, now it's just another generic station broadcasting some digital netlets. Perhaps the hobbyist should of never sold to the snake energy drink salesman.
  11. it's not like Scripps has any chance of surviving. I initially thought that Scripps acquiring ION would lead to more success cause of Scripps' proven track record with Katz Broadcasting, now the cracks are showing and I'm literally surprised that Scripps survived for this long without a takeover attempt. I thought Scripps and Tegna would last or at least merge together in order to be able to better survive the changing environment but apparently people don't want to even touch broadcast TV because of all the shit the likes of Nexstar and Sinclair have done to their stations that eroded trust and habits. They've dug TV's grave unfortunately.
  12. Third-party YouTube TV subscriber here and I do not understand why Disney won't bundle it with their usual services. Is that service alone really worth the money they're offering for it?
  13. I believe that after Cronkite left and Rather took over, that was the beginning of their woes. The transition period was alright and ratings were stable but around the beginning of the 80s was when the cracks started to show not only for CBS News but for CBS as a whole. CBS in the 80s and 90s was a whirlwind of mismanagement and terrible business decisions. CBS became both too big to fail and too complacent, making decisions that not only affected the CBS network but the company as a whole. They started to sell off a large amount of assets to other companies in a futile attempt to drive up cash flow, it kept them stable throughout the 80s but the 90s would see significant declines for CBS as a whole. Despite CBS having some stable programming like Dallas and 60 Minutes for example, CBS could not keep up with ABC and NBC which combined had more stability and better programming throughout all their divisions. The most notable example of CBS' decline has to be the year of 1995 when CBS lost stations that defected to FOX. It was the climax of a buildup that not only involved some stations defecting from CBS but also the loss of value that a CBS affiliation once gave a station. FOX as a whole took advantage by not only getting NFC rights for the NFL but by cutting a deal with New World which while involving some ABC and NBC stations, hit CBS the hardest. Most of the new CBS stations were UHF stations which to this day are still struggling to get a foothold in their respective markets, while some stations were VHF, very few of said stations were upgrades when compared to their previous stations; especially KYW which despite the lower channel number didn't have the prestige or notability that WCAU has/had. And not much needs to be mentioned about the disastrous and misguided 1995 season. While CBS has been more stable in terms of entertainment and sports programming, their news division has fallen from stability to constant disarray. Their attempts to compete in the morning show space dominated by Today and GMA has always been mostly lackluster but the loss of Rather and inability to replace Rather is still seen as a sore spot for CBS. CBS has gone through several iterations of formats and hosts for programs not named 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning. The list of previous hosts for the CBS Evening News is longer than NBC and ABC's respective Evening news programs combined. In addition, no host since Rather has been able to provide stability for the CBS Evening News. While Scott Pelly's version of the CBS Evening News was the best since Rather, the ratings and monetary performance of said program pales in comparison to the Rather era where despite being 3rd, advertisers were able to rely on it for it's consistency and familiarity. CBS News brass has no faith in the show to give the host a chance to establish their tenue and because of that, nobody really sees the CBS Evening News as legitimate competition. And if the CBS Evening News isn't reliable than why watch CBS Mornings as well? The only bright spot is 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning and that is telling of itself. I honestly don't think we're getting another Cronkite or Rather and I feel like the glory days past, present and future of CBS News are long gone. They'll be lucky if they make it to see the 2030s and that's me being optimistic.
  14. KNTV's set looks like it came from the 2000s but an alternate 2000s.
  15. I cannot believe Trump is making PBS into a rich person's thing.
  16. At least it would destabilize "The Five" since he is a key part of that show.
  17. is it me or does every host era for the CBS Evening News get shorter? The duo of John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois might be, the shortest host era that CBS Evening News ever had, even shorter than Jeff Glor.
  18. that's WBD for ya.
  19. damn do they want to slap that font on every single thing that FOX broadcasts OTA.
  20. I concur to social media being the problem. Especially when we have social media owners manipulating the algorithm to prefer their own political views in addition to the LA Times and the Washington Post also being guilty of said manipulation. Also the hypocrisy is, apologies for my language, bullshit. They made a big deal about Joe/Kamala's flaws and yet gave Trump a free pass despite his health and policy issues. They didn't care about the American people, they just wanted money in their pockets.
  21. While I don't like where CBS News is going. There isn't much of an audience for bipartisan journalism anymore. CNN tried this approach a few years ago and they ended up having to go with a more partisan take on journalism. ABC and NBC are also becoming more partisan with their journalism as well. I blame Fox News for taking partisan journalism and making it into a ratings success. There was nothing that can be done to change the taste of Americans back towards bipartisan journalism, they voted with their eyeballs and the result is journalism that pales in comparison to the Walter Cronkite era.
  22. If only NXST stock were cheap.
  23. I'm surprised Nexstar hasn't made a play for ABC on KPLR. I know about the Jimmy Kimmel controversy but still. They would get better ratings on KPLR.
  24. I'm guessing ABC made a legit threat and I believe that Sinclair had no choice but to give in. If Sinclair continued than not only would ABC strip them of their affiliations but they wouldn't be able to get new ABC affiliations. What had been adverted would of been WPLG on steroids.
  25. I was mistaken. This looks on par with Today's and GMA's sets.
