I would actually like to see some new graphics for WOIO. I think they are starting to get a bit stale. Plus, too much red.
I can confirm new graphics are coming to WOIO. Last I heard was March.

…but KCAL isn’t CBS…

I wouldn’t be surprised if they walk this back because of station pushback.

Going to make a guess here that the chroma key backdrop isn't permanent. It looks really cheap for a set this nice. Would put money on that space supposed to be containing an LED wall, and the particular one they bought is held up due to supply chain issues.
I can confirm this is *exactly* what’s happening.

I am not a fan of the talent lower thirds.
It’s like WSVN meets Tegna. I thought the whole point of these graphics were to NOT look like news.

I don't know what to say about this.
I'm at a loss for words.

Also looking at the case study now, if that's a copy that's a damn good one. But it's definitely a mash-up of WFLA 2016, Linear Drift's WISH pack, and a teeny bit of inspiration drawn from Meredith stations lowers. I'm almost concerned that the WFLA 2016 elements though are TOO good, like somehow Mr. Bresnen has the original AE files and just tweaked it ever so slightly.
There again, it's honestly not a novel concept. There are elements of Jeff Sneed's Look N for WSMV that look completely ripped from ArtHouse AE files.
And do I need to bring up Meredith again? Hell, anyone can request or purchase AE files. Matt Quinn did not design the WSMV version of the WOIO package, the files were purchased and then brought in house and modified, and modified, and modified. Until you basically have what we have now. Note, Matt Quinn takes credit for the original WOIO version but not the WSMV version and subsequently not the Meredith stations version.
Where did they buy the original AE files from?

I believe it means that the great artists steal and do it so well the work is often misattributed to them. However I don't think the News Channel Nebraska look is as well-known as the WFLA look.
Oooooh I get it now. That took me a bit.

I’ve never heard that one before. Are you being serious?
I thought the goal as an artist was to come up with something new and original. Am I missing something?

Could we see Tegna stations tweaking their graphics soon?
No. Not for at least 3 years because of software upgrades.

I'm still not a fan of the anchor reading the open where a professional VO normally would. It lacks authority and sounds too casual. Also, who decided an anchor 2-shot with a lonely spiral staircase going to nowhere in between them was a good look? From that angle at least it looks like space they didn't know what to do with so they stuck a staircase there.
I do like how they incorporated it into transitions, though.
The whole point of the anchor reading the open is to make it sound casual.
For the most part, younger viewers don't relate to the traditional newscasts...which is why I'm extremely disappointed in WXIA for killing off Morning Rush and Up Late. In fact, I think their morning show is worse now.

It’s also remarkable how much the personalities bloom when they jump to KTLA. Who would have know that Chris Schuable was as funny. Henry DiCarlo is a completely different personality than his days on CBS 2.
Because KTLA recognizes that viewers like authenticity & the station respects their employees for being real. It paid off.

Jesus. Increase the damn framerate in AE! It's not that damn hard.
It's literally clicking a button & typing in a few numbers. It's so easy.

It seems in the past week or so that newscasts on WBRE/WYOU now have the reporters referencing the channel numbers of the two stations for the first time in roughly 15~ years.
It's VERY awkward when you hear it spoken in a toss to a package like: "WBRE 28 WYOU 22 Eyewitness News reporter, Chris Bohinski tells us..."
What could have prompted this change?
This is a whole new level of stupid.

Not sure if this should go here or the Graphics Knockoff thread...
Hubbard's WDIO in Duluth has a very close resemblance to the KOIN graphics.... Slight tweaks but definitely the motions are there.... Weather graphics are definitely the KOIN varietyThat is likely because WDIO's graphics were also made by Linear Drift per my source.
