  1. certain CBS stations air the price is right at 11AM instead of 10AM. majority of the O&Os in the west coast have 10PM slot. KCNC however decided to keep lets make a deal at 2PM due to CBS this morning at 9AM where as other CBS O&Os show lets make a deal at 9AM. this is probably the same case for CBS affiliates not owned by CBS like Nexstar, Sinclair or Hearst for example.

  2. Wow, so it sounds like KCRA has the only helicopter for the market and the other two rely on the San Francisco ones. Is this the correct assumption?

I was watching CNN and some aerial footage was attributed to KXTV/KOVR so I thought they shared one.

I saw the KCRA feed was on KNTV - are they still sharing one with the rest of the San Francisco stations?

yes however i forgot to say that KTVU also has their own News Chopper 2. so sometimes they use them as well. their was one time where KXTV showed a promo that they were going to have a new air 10 in the sky (based on KGTV's Chopper.) but they never took full advantage of it nor did KTXL's Skyfox40 and yes KCRA's LiveCopter 3 is the only top chopper we have.

  3. I forget does KXTV and KOVR share a helicopter?

Edit: I thought I'd add the cable coverage has been weak.

no. they dont. KOVR shares with KPIX Chopper 5 though. and i think KGO which both KOVR and KXTV uses, KTXL uses KGO as well. KCRA livecopter 3 shares with KRON even though KRON used to have one. also the grammys had some accidents again this year.

  4. Stations all across California are on breaking news about the Orville Dam Spillage. lets talk about my stations for example:

    • KCRA had to interrupt NBC programming followed by a ticker but eventually went back but with the ticker still intact.
    • KXTV just showed a ticker on and off during ABC programming.
    • KOVR is just running a ticker through out the entire Grammys.
    • KMAX is using Full Breaking News Coverage from KOVR CBS 13 news.
    • KTXL had to interrupt FOX programming for breaking news coverage.
    • KQCA isnt showing anything but they did have a brief ticker from KCRA.
    • KUVS just showed a Headline of the coverage before going to Univision Programming.
    • KTFK is showing a ticker during the Spanish version of X-Men First Class.

  5. apparently KSTV-LP still has their analog station up because On November 30, 2016, former MundoMax affiliate KSAO-LD (channel 49) became the primary affiliate of Azteca for the Sacramento area after MundoMax ceased operations. It is unclear what the status is for KSTV as it broadcasts a frozen image of a TV program that aired on Azteca. is analog even still around? because i heard only LP stations will still stay on for as long as they can.

  6. What is the show's usual out-time? If it's 10:55:XX, followed by an end break, it's possible the commercial server crashed. Tribune stations are hubbed, so if the master control operator that's running six or eight stations is busy, it can take a few minutes to switch over to the back-up. A commercial server or spot machine crash has happened to every producer and director at some time or another. But hubs and automation have taken the ability to recover away from the control room.

10:59. KTXL usually give the commercials time followed by and ID before Two and a half men comes on. they start the news about 30 Seconds early or right after Fox Programming.

  7. How can you have a show run that much under time and not notice? I don't doubt that whatever happened was a result of some sort of automation in master control. But a hard time out is a hard time out. Does their 10pm show maybe have a hard time out at 10:55? I just can't imagine a situation where the newscast is so light that they deliberately end it a few minutes early and/or nobody noticed. There's still at least a producer and director in the booth, and that would be very sloppy producing if that happened.

KTXL sometimes does a long close like WGN.

  8. Chances are most nexstar stations are going to keep what they use for news packages if it works in that market. so this means that some of those nexstar stations are going to end up with either an update or refresh of that same package rather than a completely new news package. they aren't always going to use a SAM package in fact they can still use a Gari package if commissioned.

  9. for some reason the same cuts of Newsforce by 615 that WPRI/WNAC have been using for years have been stuck in my head especially that Bumper version they keep using. I think Nexstar might do something about that. i used to associate Newsforce with KENS and KCAL.

  10. It's just a reminder that I know way too much about news music.

They did show one graphic, which is a map of every market with a Nexstar station. If Honolulu were really that close, Phoenix would be a lot nicer...

yeah. i usually see Stephen Arnold as the softer rock type news music compared to 615's "Epic thriller movie" type news music and Gari's Magical, majestic type news music.

  11. WJAR had a malfunction during dateline commercial breaks. they were showing a WBFF commercial instead of a WJAR commercial for a brief second. another one occurred at WBFF where one of the monitors on the news would show their FOX 45 logo glitching green lines during weather. i wonder if Sinclair knows about these Issues.

  12. Automation... a sobering thought to get you into an ever more automated new year...

No wonder everything was messing up that night. too bad i wasn't able to watch NBC's coverage because of the Hearst thing with Directv. so i ended up watching the Countdown on Fox. unfortunately CBS doesn't have a new years eve show though i wish they fix that somehow.

  13. ABC has been the worst for New years eve coverage. Mariah Carey tries to sing with missing vocals but eventualy doesnt, one of the monitors got rained on in new orleans via satelite causing the monitor go into static and also ABC had to cut to the dreaded Color bars "ABC TV NEW YORK" thing with the ABC bug on the corner for a few seconds. then my station (KXTV) goes into dead air until they come back followed by an ABC 10 news promo then a TIME/TEMP VANC screen and after that Ryan seacrest acts like it never happened. i don't know why all of this is even happening??????

  14. That's pretty darn good for an accidental antenna.

yeah that is until you get to the weakest station it picks up. KNTV.

    You might be getting tropo.

yeah could be that. they might go away because i once did a channel surfing video on this and some of the bay area channels never came back that night until the next weekend or when the wind was picking up.

  15. It sounds like the cut cable created it's own antenna that just happens to be well suited for those off-air signals.

And I would also guess you are close to Fairfield. The antenna may behave a bit differently once the rain stops....but ya never know.

i'm in Rancho cordova. KTVU is located 94 miles.
