Reminds me of Sinclair’s KAEF in Eureka that once ran local news under the “North Coast News” brand.
-
The MTN stations have the branding as I saw it in Missoula last week and verified with the program listings tonight.

The guy has been all over - SF, Redding/Chico, Eureka, back to Redding/Chico, then Salinas. As a viewer in a previous small market, I appreciated his dedication to accuracy and setting the standard.

Sad day for media on the Central Coast. The folks at KION sure tried. Just checking in via streaming, it was obvious multiple folks wore multiple hats. The sports guy was mostly a news anchor, the news director did it all (news/weather/managing), and the assistant news director anchored the morning news.

Sinclair’s California stations (minus KAEF when they still had local news) have been on the platform for quite awhile -
Cross-referencing the name in his Facebook post and photos of named person, it is very likely. I’m not a Frank cheerleader/excuser but I do believe that there is more to the story. Hopefully all get the help they need.

What an awful thing to say. If you do not mean any “disrespect” and “think she’s great” then why qualify why you think she doesn’t have the look for a major market? This is no better than unwanted viewer letters that tear people down. And in case you didn’t notice, there have been a number of weather folks in major markets with the trait you listed, notably at WNBC and WGN. SMH. -

Well, it doesn't snow on the Northern California coast ... but the stations are located adjacent to a cow pasture, so something may be plowed -

Bicoastal Media has a cluster right next door to Marquee’s newly acquired Eureka stations (KIEM/KVIQ). They share a driveway. -
Well, at least it’s not the small, small market Sinclair set. The one with all the brick, a 50” or 60” screen or two, and a dull background behind the anchor. Cough, cough - KVAL/KMTR, KIMA, KEPR, KLEW (canceled), KRCR, KBAK, etc.

Is KGUN still a mix of live and pre-recorded newscasts? The Scripps model is painful, you’re right. I wonder if it would suck less if the flow was sped up a bit and the music was better. Probably not.

This isn’t a slam on participants but I don’t understand why certain threads — notably this one and WPVI — seem to be flooded with posts regarding whom is subbing for whom. Maybe because it’s summer the thread is short on content.

^^This, all of this^^ It was sad to watch the fall of KRON into obsolescence

CBS Sunday Morning - Will it Ever Go Back to Live?

Norah anchored a CBS News Special Report, alongside Maurice DuBois, from Rome on the second day of the papal conclave when Pope Leo was elected. I feel that I have seen her host another Special Report recently. -
TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion

Speaking of KREM — the ill-advised decision to hub weekend weather out of Denver has been reversed (at least in Spokane). 25-year-veteran Michelle Boss is back on the weekend after being replaced some six months ago. Did the other stations reverse too?- 3735 replies

I watched it live and had to double back to verify that I saw what I saw. It was 6:01 and 69° and the poor meteorologist had no idea.- 3735 replies

Wow. Good for them! They’ve been the low-budget cellar dweller for years. Morgan Murphy has spent some money here after downsizing in the last decade. There is a real set (super basic), news programming in competitive slots, and better on-air presentation than their competitors. They’re up against Cowles’ KNDO/U and their boring “NonStop Local” brand, and Sinclair’s standard output with KIMA/KEPR. Although, big props to KIMA’s John Kennedy O’Connor.
-
Just speculation, but Cowles may sell. They sold off their daily newspaper, The Spokane Spokesman-Review, to a non-profit. They are a real estate company primarily with a handful or so of crappy (one great) TV stations.
-
KXGN no longer produces local programming. TV Passport shows airings of “The Noon News,” “The 5:30 News,” and “The 10:00 News,” which are from KTVQ in Billings. So, MM can’t really sink it anymore.
-
KULR is basically ran, news wise, from Missoula and Spokane (in WA). Evening news now comes from Missoula and morning news comes from Spokane (but is marketed as local). It’s been a bare bones operation for a handful of years and is getting worse by the year. KXGN is going to be a repeater for its new buyer, most likely.

Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion

KLEW newscasts are now produced and anchored from Boise. The quality has always been high school/college/cable access quality. The station veterans were great but everything else was so blah. It’s worse now. -
The new set debuted on April 24. It is an improvement and is a “Top 2” set in a three newsroom market. For some reason, they decided to debut new “lower-thirds” that do not match their existing graphics package or on-air and on-set branding. The new “lower-thirds” and ticker use — insert audible GASP — use what appears to be Tahoma, instead of the Helvetica-esque font on everything else. These are atrocious and would be less so if they at least used the same font family found everywhere else. Cowles rolled the same super and ticker out to their other WA and MT stations, too.

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
norcalTVfan replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
TEGNA is taking a page out of the Scripps playbook now. In Spokane on KREM 2, the weeknight 11pm broadcast is now a replay of the 10pm they produce for their sister station. The main channel doesn’t even air live news at 11. No disclaimer on the TV that it isn’t live, but the app lags a few seconds behind the on-air feed and they match up word for word. Interestingly enough, the app has a “previously recorded” tag but keeps the 10pm time/temp bug. The on-air rebroadcast has the right bug. Seriously cheap as this is a mid-60s market. Is this happening elsewhere in TEGNA-land?- 3735 replies

KPVI is an afterthought in a two-newsroom market. Its quality is on par with its former sister KIEM. Longtime users of this forum know that KIEM and quality typically aren’t mentioned in the same sentence.
