The song that opened up the 10p news on KTLA at the time is "Now That You've Gone" by Chicago (from the album Chicago V; this song, Saturday in the Park, and Dialogue, are three of the best songs on the album, as well as some of Chicago's best songs overall!) Also, aside from his TV work in L.A., Clete Roberts was probably best known nationally for his appearances on M*A*S*H, where he interviewed the members of the 4077th (The Interview and Our Finest Hour are the episodes in question)

Let’s not also forget WTVQ is also the station that hired Erica Bivens not long after she and Chelsea Ambriz were fired after they came to blows in public during their time at WSAZ. (Ambriz, meanwhile, is doing well over at WeatherNation)

Yeah, you're probably right......

All I can say is thank goodness for CBS This Morning!! (Newsy is another worthy alternative, with Alex Livingston doing a wonderful job in mornings on the channel!)

Is it the fact that she has so many hashtags in her tweet, or is it the way the video starts that's troubling you (w/her putting her makeup box down)?

No. The weekend schedule has been like that since Banfield started in March of this year (that was the month of the first expansion of programming and the rebrand of WGN America to NewsNation).......

I don't think this will work on a channel like NewsNation. I think there are plenty of Nexstar stations that have locally produced shows with segments like that (i.e., "pay for play" segments). But then again, what other group doesn't have stations with local shows like that? In NewsNation's case, I think it depends on the crime itself and who is involved (although I don't think they would amplify it to Today or GMA level). When NewsNation does a story like that which takes up a few minutes of airtime, they usually call on a reporter from the Nexstar station in the market where the crime occurred. If it was a really big story, then they usually call on people like Tom Negovan, Nancy Loo, or Markie Martin to cover it, depending on the region where this occurs....... If you go to newsnationnow.com, they do have at least one or two local crime stories worth highlighting (that depends on the day and time when you're at the site, and what the crime is, of course).......

They still do; Nosey has a channel on PlutoTV and I did catch an episode that was on the channel a couple of days ago. It was from around 1995 or '96 (I think that's the time frame of episodes Nosey has the rights to)......

Wow; Lionsgate?! I've been kind of wondering for a long time who has the rights to the Geraldo show library. I know that Tribune Entertainment (which distributed "Geraldo") shut down sometime in 2007, so I was kind of thinking the library might either belong to Geraldo Rivera himself, another entity, or even Nexstar! I'm wondering how Lionsgate ended up with Geraldo, though! Come to think of it, there are a couple of episodes of Charles Perez's awful '90s talk show on YouTube, and it was distributed by Tribune back then. I wonder if Lionsgate has the rights to it as well, or if there is another entity that has them. Or do the tapes for Perez's show even exist (if Tribune had them destroyed, which is unlikely, I think Charles Perez himself may have a copy of every show he did)??

This actually was a good article. One highlight: The LA Times piece actually mentioned the Ad Fontes media rating of the political leanings of NewsNation (in which it's ranked squarely in the center), while also highlighting the ratings struggles it's had of late, and the behind-the-scenes turmoil that has taken place. Another thing that surprised me in the piece was Joe Donlon not being involved in the editing of the interview he did with now-former President Trump, and his alleged unhappiness with the final product. Now, I've never spent time in a local or national TV newsroom, but wouldn't someone of Donlon's stature at least have some kind of involvement with the editing of an interview like this??? I don't understand.......

More than likely the latter; that almost looks like a CBS test pattern to me (I've seen this happen on occasion in the seconds leading up to the start of the "CBS Evening News").....

I think they had ketk.com and fox51.com during the ComCorp era. I remember after Nexstar bought them, they had myeasttex.com then eventually went to easttexasmatters.com. To me, the ketk.com and fox51.com domain names are better...... Come to think of it, I wonder who the people are/were at Nexstar that came up with the idea of the domain name of (insert cute description of area).com for their station web sites; also come to think of it, I wonder if any of them are still there!!

Some of Nexstar's Louisiana stations still have their unique addresses. For example, KTAL still uses arklatexhomepage.com, KTVE/KARD still uses myarklamiss.com, and WVLA still uses brproud.com (I think WVLA, after being acquired by Nexstar from ComCorp, was one of the last Nexstar stations to use [insert unique area name].com as their website address; my guess is that practice has stopped since at least Nexstar's merger with Media General). To be fair, the website layouts on all the sites that I mentioned have improved in the last several years, IMHO......

@CalItalian2, since it's been well established that you clearly are not a fan of NewsNation, would you like to read my post in the D Block section for laughs (my fantasy story about a crossover between NewsNation and a certain show on a popular digital broadcast network)?? My post has been universally panned, and BTW, this idea will probably never happen in reality, but never say never, as they say. And @CalItalian2, if you want to critique, please reply in the D Block section, s'il vous plait! Thank you!

Are you the same VHSgoodiesWA that posted, on your YouTube channel, clips from the "Jenny Jones Show" from the early years of the program (c. 1992-93)?? Granted, I was never a fan of the show, but it was pretty surreal to see the show at its humble beginnings (e.g., the small set and small audience) compared to what it would later become (e.g. the set larger & the audience larger and rowdier).... As for the topics and guests themselves, I did see one episode you posted, and let's just say it was really cringe-inducing (although it was more Jenny's line of questioning her guests on this topic that was the major issue)......

Paula Reid was terrific covering the Trump White House for CBS; this is a great get for CNN!

And a way to drive viewership? Make a half-hour or hour long show to syndicate on their stations. It could follow the "PM/Evening Magazine" model. Have a bank of stories that are chosen and promoted, and that drive viewership to the main channel. It could be localized in the larger markets, especially if it's a story that originated locally or in the region. And if all else fails, see if CNN still has the "jukebox" they used for Headline News in the 90s. Call me old fashioned, sometimes I just want to know what's going on at a random time.... And when HLN jumped the shark, the last days of the All News Channel was a good watch. They essentially did what Nexstar should have been doing all along. Using THEIR stations to present content to a national audience. We have to remember when NewsNation runs a story from one of Nexstar's markets, that local reporter doing the story is mentioned on-air as a "NewsNation reporter." So, if (let's say) a report on the recent blizzard runs on KDVR/KWGN in Denver (both Nexstar stations), that reporter on said station will most likely first use their station's mic flag for the local run, before using the NewsNation mic flag for the national run of that story. (The story, BTW, would probably air first locally before airing nationally.) It may sound kind of corny, but I tend to think Nexstar is also using NewsNation as a showcase for all the journalistic work done by reporters all across the Nexstar station spectrum. If one is a reporter at a Nexstar station and he or she is chosen somehow to file a report for NewsNation, this would be considered a major honor/accomplishment for that reporter. (Scripps sometimes does the same thing with Newsy, in which reports from some of their stations also air at various points on the channel's programs.)

The old KLMG/KFXK building in Longview, TX for example, is located just off I-20 East, overlooking the highway. (The UPN station in Tyler/Longview was also there; when you go to Google Maps, it's the building next to La Quinta Inn off I-20 in Longview, and & you'll also have to zoom in closely at the provided image to see an imprint of the old UPN logo on the building, too......)

This is a great column on the subject of NewsNation that is worth a read........https://tvnewscheck.com/top-news/journalism/article/newsnation-finds-itself-at-early-crossroads/ Sorry there’s no link attached. Ah, the fun of using mobile......

The problems we're hearing about at NewsNation have GOT to be worse than what we've heard; in fact, check this out: https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2021/3/9/not-exactly-off-to-a-good-start

Not that it means much, but KATC in Lafayette, LA just added Bounce on channel 3.5. I think KATC's the first station in the market to have 4 subchannels to go with their main channel......

Actually, I do vaguely remember when Fox Sports Southwest was known as HSE (Home Sports Entertainment) before they became an affiliate of Prime Network in the late '80s/early '90s. The only memory I have of the SportsChannel/Prime Network brand are of the NBA/MLB/college sports highlights that came from them which aired on ESPN's "Sportscenter" during those days. (And, to be honest, as a kid, seeing those SportsChannel logos on the court during basketball highlights kind of made me wish we had the channel, in some form!)
