  1. This actually was a good article. One highlight: The LA Times piece actually mentioned the Ad Fontes media rating of the political leanings of NewsNation (in which it's ranked squarely in the center), while also highlighting the ratings struggles it's had of late, and the behind-the-scenes turmoil that has taken place. Another thing that surprised me in the piece was Joe Donlon not being involved in the editing of the interview he did with now-former President Trump, and his alleged unhappiness with the final product. Now, I've never spent time in a local or national TV newsroom, but wouldn't someone of Donlon's stature at least have some kind of involvement with the editing of an interview like this??? I don't understand.......
  2. More than likely the latter; that almost looks like a CBS test pattern to me (I've seen this happen on occasion in the seconds leading up to the start of the "CBS Evening News").....
  3. I think they had ketk.com and fox51.com during the ComCorp era. I remember after Nexstar bought them, they had myeasttex.com then eventually went to easttexasmatters.com. To me, the ketk.com and fox51.com domain names are better...... Come to think of it, I wonder who the people are/were at Nexstar that came up with the idea of the domain name of (insert cute description of area).com for their station web sites; also come to think of it, I wonder if any of them are still there!!
  4. In regards to KATC, even though their current logo is on station vehicles, their sign outside their studios still has the 80s-90s "3" logo design; that sign has been in place since (I'm guessing) at least 1983-84 (this is when Loyola University New Orleans owned the station and KATC had the same news theme music as then-sister station WWL in NOLA). So I would not be surprised if, in addition to changes eventually showing up on-air, we also see a new logo on station vehicles AND a new sign for the station outside.......
  5. Some of Nexstar's Louisiana stations still have their unique addresses. For example, KTAL still uses arklatexhomepage.com, KTVE/KARD still uses myarklamiss.com, and WVLA still uses brproud.com (I think WVLA, after being acquired by Nexstar from ComCorp, was one of the last Nexstar stations to use [insert unique area name].com as their website address; my guess is that practice has stopped since at least Nexstar's merger with Media General). To be fair, the website layouts on all the sites that I mentioned have improved in the last several years, IMHO......
  6. @CalItalian2, since it's been well established that you clearly are not a fan of NewsNation, would you like to read my post in the D Block section for laughs (my fantasy story about a crossover between NewsNation and a certain show on a popular digital broadcast network)?? My post has been universally panned, and BTW, this idea will probably never happen in reality, but never say never, as they say. And @CalItalian2, if you want to critique, please reply in the D Block section, s'il vous plait! Thank you!
  7. Are you the same VHSgoodiesWA that posted, on your YouTube channel, clips from the "Jenny Jones Show" from the early years of the program (c. 1992-93)?? Granted, I was never a fan of the show, but it was pretty surreal to see the show at its humble beginnings (e.g., the small set and small audience) compared to what it would later become (e.g. the set larger & the audience larger and rowdier).... As for the topics and guests themselves, I did see one episode you posted, and let's just say it was really cringe-inducing (although it was more Jenny's line of questioning her guests on this topic that was the major issue)......
  8. Paula Reid was terrific covering the Trump White House for CBS; this is a great get for CNN!
  9. And a way to drive viewership? Make a half-hour or hour long show to syndicate on their stations. It could follow the "PM/Evening Magazine" model. Have a bank of stories that are chosen and promoted, and that drive viewership to the main channel. It could be localized in the larger markets, especially if it's a story that originated locally or in the region. And if all else fails, see if CNN still has the "jukebox" they used for Headline News in the 90s. Call me old fashioned, sometimes I just want to know what's going on at a random time.... And when HLN jumped the shark, the last days of the All News Channel was a good watch. They essentially did what Nexstar should have been doing all along. Using THEIR stations to present content to a national audience. We have to remember when NewsNation runs a story from one of Nexstar's markets, that local reporter doing the story is mentioned on-air as a "NewsNation reporter." So, if (let's say) a report on the recent blizzard runs on KDVR/KWGN in Denver (both Nexstar stations), that reporter on said station will most likely first use their station's mic flag for the local run, before using the NewsNation mic flag for the national run of that story. (The story, BTW, would probably air first locally before airing nationally.) It may sound kind of corny, but I tend to think Nexstar is also using NewsNation as a showcase for all the journalistic work done by reporters all across the Nexstar station spectrum. If one is a reporter at a Nexstar station and he or she is chosen somehow to file a report for NewsNation, this would be considered a major honor/accomplishment for that reporter. (Scripps sometimes does the same thing with Newsy, in which reports from some of their stations also air at various points on the channel's programs.)
  10. The old KLMG/KFXK building in Longview, TX for example, is located just off I-20 East, overlooking the highway. (The UPN station in Tyler/Longview was also there; when you go to Google Maps, it's the building next to La Quinta Inn off I-20 in Longview, and & you'll also have to zoom in closely at the provided image to see an imprint of the old UPN logo on the building, too......)
  11. This is a great column on the subject of NewsNation that is worth a read........https://tvnewscheck.com/top-news/journalism/article/newsnation-finds-itself-at-early-crossroads/ Sorry there’s no link attached. Ah, the fun of using mobile......
  12. The problems we're hearing about at NewsNation have GOT to be worse than what we've heard; in fact, check this out: https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2021/3/9/not-exactly-off-to-a-good-start
  13. Not that it means much, but KATC in Lafayette, LA just added Bounce on channel 3.5. I think KATC's the first station in the market to have 4 subchannels to go with their main channel......
  14. After clicking the link, let's just say that to theorize that the new branding did not work would be an understatement!
  15. Actually, I do vaguely remember when Fox Sports Southwest was known as HSE (Home Sports Entertainment) before they became an affiliate of Prime Network in the late '80s/early '90s. The only memory I have of the SportsChannel/Prime Network brand are of the NBA/MLB/college sports highlights that came from them which aired on ESPN's "Sportscenter" during those days. (And, to be honest, as a kid, seeing those SportsChannel logos on the court during basketball highlights kind of made me wish we had the channel, in some form!)
  16. If you watch the clip, what most likely set her off was a phrase written on the teleprompter that made her slip her tongue. I don’t know if that phrase was poorly written, or if there was an extra word in the phrase that shouldn’t have been added, but regardless, it was wrong for Morgan to lose her temper at the crew like that.....
  17. Someone at KDKA actually got fired for that stunt, if I'm not mistaken (KDKA is a CBS owned-and-operated station, after all). Now in KSHB's case, this more than likely was tongue-in-cheek; I think they did this with the hopes Tom Brady and his people find it funny, and are good sports about it (let's hope).....
  18. One wonders if Tom Llamas will take a brief 30 seconds out of the broadcast today to say goodbye and thank viewers (but obviously not say where he's headed). I'd be surprised if he didn't do that.....
  19. My guess is: a. this means that WPIX reporters will soon show up on "NewsNation", or have their WPIX reports shown there, and b. the Nexstar closing animation could show up at the end of one of WPIX's newscasts as early as today, no???
  20. Interesting; what are some of the differences between Shepard Smith's newscast and NewsNation?????
  21. Wow. I've been using several search terms on Facebook to find these mentions to no avail; what search terms would I use??? Would be interesting to hear about such a monumental event in TV history (the Fox switches that occurred in the '90s) from those who were there at the time (and also at other stations that switched to Fox).... Or a screen shot of some of these convos will do...... UPDATE: Never mind, was just on Facebook; I found them..........
  22. Sad to hear. Travis was a terrific reporter at KATC (both during his initial time there and recently helping out during coverage of Hurricanes Laura and Delta), and I think KJRH was lucky to have him. Huge mistake on KJRH's part in letting him go.......
  23. HA HA!! FUNNY STUFF!! I'd love to see the entire NewsNation team (Joe Donlon, Marnie Hughes, Rob Nelson, etc.) dance to the Miami Vice theme a la Bob Hite (hee hee)! It would be AWESOME!! It might go viral QUICKLY!!
  24. I don't know if anybody on this board is familiar with the website https://ratemystation.com/ (this website allows people who have actually worked there to anonymously post what station they work at, their job title and salary, and any work experience they've faced, positive and/or negative), among other things. I'm posting this here on the Hearst thread because KOAT in Albuquerque apparently has a NUMBER of complaints on this website (37 to be exact), and the only people named throughout most of these complaints are the now-former news director, his assistant (I don't know if she's still there), and the current news director, neither of whom I'm naming. Also, it's worth noting a common thread among these complaints is that KOAT's ratings have slipped in the Albuquerque market, but if you look among these complaints, the issues go deeper than that. I'll just post the link here: https://ratemystation.com/koat/
  25. WAVE-TV in Louisville has a 4p newscast now which was originally going to be temporary due to COVID-19, but is now permanent. This means virtually all of WAVE's programming outside of NBC's output is either news or locally produced (similar to sister station WBTV in Charlotte). (info from @TheRolyPoly's "Changing Newscasts" blog) One wonders if this will be the start of a trend in local TV (network affiliates going all-news outside of network programming). After all, didn't KSNV in Las Vegas once announce their intentions years ago to go all news outside of NBC programming before Sinclair bought the station??
