Looks like some odd filtering on that studio render.

If I imagine how those materials look in real life it’s warm woods. And a lot less cluttered. More inviting and professional.

Refreshing from the sensory overload of their prior studios.

According to our UK counterparts on Pres Cafe, this picture of the studio was heavily sepia-toned.

ABC is in the middle of converting ABC Entertains and ABC News to high-definition (I know, right? In 2025?). It has started doing so in Tasmania (ABT; home to Hobart) and South Australia (ABS; home to Adelaide) and is doing a staged roll-out to the upcoming states across the country:

    • Tuesday, June 17th - Western Australia (ABW; home to Perth) and Northern Territory (ABD; home to Darwin)
    • Thursday, June 19th - Queensland (ABQ; home to Brisbane)
    • Tuesday, June 24th - New South Wales (ABN; home to Sydney) and Australian Capital Territory (ABC; home to Canberra)
    • Thursday, June 26th - Victoria (ABV; home to Melbourne)

ABC will continue to offer ABC TV in SD and HD as well as ABC Kids/ABC Family in SD.

    https://help.abc.net.au/hc/en-us/articles/12564144195855-ABC-NEWS-Channel-and-ABC-Entertains-is-moving-to-HD-in-June?fbclid=IwY2xjawK4enhleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFQNmRLQlVyWHBIQlJwbDlXAR7tClm1QTAAO3Vw4L5Ytu0eVWbtcLannqsrYeA6EJixoigO6ewZSsNDkLsX_A_aem_YF7iK_JVHoK0ZSchQicppQ

And the interesting thing is, the ABC News channel was HD from its launch in 2010 until ABC TV HD relaunched in 2016.

And apparently on a Green Screen set that mimics the originating one.

I don't think that's a green screen set. It looks like the actual set. The back floor of the set is a screen.

  4. CBS News 24/7 has been carrying coverage of WUSA, ABC News Live has been doing their own coverage, and NBC News Now has been carrying WRC's coverage when they're not showing Special Report coverage.

CBC News is following this as well with The National in breaking news mode, due in part to the passenger plane being a Canadian-made Bombardier CRJ-701 manufactured in 2004.

  5. Another thing to note: the headlines music bed was used during the story teases when going out to the first commercial break. So even if its not being used in its traditional location in the broadcast, it's still being used for something.

  6. I was very pleased with what we watched, and I'll definitely be watching the repeat on CBS News 24/7 later tonight. It's definitely got 60 Minutes meets PBS News Hour meets local news. It was a nice relief to just have the intro going into the A-Block and not have a headlines sequence to open the broadcast.

So happy that the 1987 theme is back (in its 2011 remastered version), but I can also agree that it would've been nice to hear the 1991 theme for the first time in 19 years.

I saw it on X/Twitter, I don't know if we can trust it. But it looks like this is going to be the new set for the CBS Evening News

Just from this photo alone, I'm getting Studio 1515 (the studio in Times Square) and KCAL/KCNC/WBBM set vibes. The new anchor desk looks exactly like the KCAL/KCNC/WBBM anchor desks (just without the wood border around the front screen), the walls of screens are similar to the walls of screens in Studio 1515, and the color of the wood floor and some structural elements are similar to the KCAL/KCNC/WBBM sets.

NIce... but font-wise, we're already ditching that Mandate huh?

Hopefully its just for the logo, given that Face The Nation, 48 Hours, and 60 Minutes haven't changed anything major on their logos (or just subtle tweaks) since the 2020 rebrand occurred. But, looking at the serif font used, it's the same one used on the CBS News website and app.

Is there another reason as to why she might be leaving?

From what Hoda said in her letter to the Today Show team, it's just that she wants to have more time with her daughters and mom, and that it is time to try something new.

Again, she's just leaving Today. She's not leaving NBC.

I actually think it's a good evolution of the Hearst design, which has aged pretty well compared to the other group packs. I like to think they didn't change them wholesale because they see their stations visually as newspapers in design where stability is a good thing and any change should be subtle and slow.

Yes, it looks like more of the same, but Hearst is already on top in many of their markets. Not much they do need to do to keep that advantage, and the graphics match their 'not broken' thinking.

I agree. It’s a nice evolution of the diagrid graphics (even if the diagrid isn’t fully visible in the new ones), and they do fall in line with the teaser graphics that have been rolled out over the past few months.

  11. Just reading up on it, and it feels like CBS is trying to do what the CBC did with The National back in the fall of 2017 after Peter Mansbridge retired that summer (minus the 4 person rotation of anchors).

  12. I’m watching KTLA’s livestream right now. It’s heartbreaking hearing about this. They’ve had celebrities and fellow entertainment journalists that knew him on the phone to talk and reminisce.
