  1. I’m not too big on JC. He just doesn’t really suit the weekday slot.

I didn’t mind Patrick being a fill-in for the last year, Michelle has been doing a good job with mornings even after Andy and Zoraida left she’s keeping it up!

I agree with the part that Management might as well place Patrick back in the 4 and place him on the 5 (A Mark Suppelsa type of move maybe)

What if they hire from outside? I wonder if they’d do that for a lead. The only time in recent memory was when Ron Magers left channel 5…

I think it was John Drury they hired from outside for a 2nd stint at 5 & 10 in '84. Ron was hired from outside only for the 5pm, but was promoted within for the 10pm after 4 years in 2002.

Ravi, he deserves the weekday promotion, seeing as he's been there the longest and is another true professional.

Ravi has been LONG OVERDUE for a weekday promotion after his first 10 years there everyone was suspecting he’d get the 4pm when Magers was retiring.

Good find. Definitely interesting timing on this.

Let’s just hope the viewers don’t have a hissy fit 😂. You know how it goes when they hire someone born in the city from another news town

Looks like Patrick Fazio is off the morning shift and will only be on at 11am with Marion Brooks.

Let’s be real now, remember how they waited nearly a year to hire a 4pm anchor to co-anchor alongside Marion (Patrick). He wouldn’t be the first person to be an interim for nearly a year in the morning or any other newscast at NBC 5.

Also his bio on the website never confirmed permanency of Patrick on the morning newscast.

Quick fact: Currently no one has been able to break Sambolin's record of long-running morning anchor at NBC 5.

That was surely based on where GE was headed, with the abandoned block logo NBC [CITY], and a downplayed local brand. At one point, the anchors and reports would've simply signed off as "NBC News." Comcast had a different plan, and here we are today, with the channel number intact.

Was it as late at 2010/11, though? I feel like the standalone peacock appeared when the 2 sets were redone for HD, so late 2007/early '08.

When they did the HD look, in January of 2008 the desk was still Branded as “NBC5” with the “NBC5.com” link added under the logo when did gave the newsroom desk a facelift, then around late 08/early 09 it was changed to “NBC 5 News” as they changed the web link.

But Studio 5 initially had a standalone peacock logo in it’s first look.

Big upgrade. Not so claustrophobic. Confused as to why the desk is NBC Chicago when there's NBC 5 everywhere else, unless they decided to use the studio for more generic NBC News stuff.

Actually around 2010-11 somewhere at that point they actually dropped the NBC 5 logo at the desk in both the newsroom as well as Studio 5 and just had the NBC peacock display Before they added the NBC 5 logo back at the desk in 2012

As a result of the new 9am newscast being anchored by the regular morning team, Ed Curran and Robb Ellis are the new 11am team.

So now that Ed Curran is back at 11am, are they potentially looking for another hire?

So, the first TV listings of the new fall season are out, and there are a few notable changes on the WGN schedule. Despite the show wrapping production, I'm shocked that a rerun slate of Maury isn't included in the afternoon block. Instead, Lauren Lake's Paternity Court (yikes) slots in at 2pm. The biggest surprise, though, might come at 3pm, as Friends reruns return to weekday, daylight hours for the first time in forever. Personally, that programming decision feels like a placeholder move, but what do I know?

There hasn’t been a court show on WGN since Judge Jeanine Pirro which was taped at NBC tower years ago!

It’s been a while since I last saw it, but I believe the newsroom hasn’t been updated much over the years. That said, a quick (and simple) paint job could easily breathe new life to the space.

As far as what they could do in 2 weeks.. who knows?? Just adding a new desk and headers and footers to the video walls would be a significant enough improvement imo.

Last I recalled, I think there’s a few cubicles where the old NBC 5 desk once stood when I got a tour of the station a few years back.
