  1. The newscast at 9 is CBS News Now or whatever it’s called. They stopped producing the local news a while ago at 9pm. So this 8pm is technically new or a “reboot” per se. I wonder who will anchor? It would be nice to see Dick and Alice again.

Yeah but the thing is the article says that Brittany got promoted to weekday mornings

    Which is kinda confusing

I almost feel the article is missing something or is just wrong. That aside and not to speculate but could Sam also be winding down and maybe just do off camera stuff and special assignments (Weather or Not etc..) and lighter reports and let Brittany do AMs and Dani afternoons?

They'll probably alternate who works the 10am & Noon. I doubt we'll ever see 3 meteorologists on one newscast on a regular basis, unless there's a big storm

I know all 3 won’t be on in one newscast. I’m just saying that if the article is saying Brittany is taking on mornings and Dani is doing the 10am that means they’ll all be in the building at the same time. Sam seems to have very cushy terms so him (not) picking up extra air time wouldn’t shock me. I’m just saying it would make more sense if he did mornings then let’s just say Brittany did the 10am, noon and maybe 4. But the article clearly says Brittany is taking on weekday mornings

Also says Brittney Bell is moving to weekday mornings to work with Sam.

The article also says Dani working the 10am? Seems a little overkill to have all 3 in the mornings.. no? Also leaving Jeff on weekends again seems a little unfair as he’s more than deserving of a weekday spot

Craig Allen is returning to WCBS for weekend mornings, as per his Instagram post. That’s a great get for the channel as he’s one of the best in the business. Welcome back!

I guess that means John Elliott is back to mornings?

News 12 Long Island original Doug Geed signed off from the anchor desk last night. He will continue hosting the taped/on location "The East End" weekend show until the end of the year to help transition it to new hosts.

Doug's also been using his Facebook and Instagram to showcase some of the behind-the-scenes people he's worked with.

Today was also Rich Von Holen last day (executive weather producer/on air meteorologist). I guess there was another round of buy outs. Sad the networks continue to lose the faces and talent everyone has come to know. Fact.. Doug mentioned he accepted a buy out.

The situation for now seems to be putting John back on weekday mornings (where he was originally), with Lonnie and Vanessa in their same spots; and then farm out the weekend AM newscasts to other CBS stations for weather. John Marshall would be another good addition, but now he's over at FOX weather.

He’s been there with WCBS hasn’t he? I don’t think he’s wanna go back

  8. While it would be cool I feel like it would be over the top and almost unnecessary to add Jim to the anchor line up. They have a strong enough line up as it is. Could a possibility be David to mornings, Jim at 5 and then Mike noon and 4 until it’s time for Bill?

  9. Something I don’t get about WABC (while minuscule) is up until Ken got fired they ran the Friday Morning talent open.. and they run the Friday noon open.. even tho Sam is off Fridays.. last Sunday I was watching I don’t believe they ran a talent open now that Ryan does sports Sundays.. I’m not sure about Fridays at 6 I haven’t seen it lately. Not something the average viewer would notice but just a little irk lol

  10. One thing that’s nice to see (besides anchor pairings we normally don’t) is seeing specific people anchor that might normally not.. Janice Yu has been anchoring Friday mornings and some weekends. Today was Chantee Lans with Michelle.. nice to see

Yes, different anchor pairings will be tested.
don’t think that Ken didn’t speak up about Shirleen before walking out. That includes others on staff. While his comment was not appropriate - it’s not untrue. Known SA since Hofstra. Wasn’t a pleasant person 20 years ago and still isn’t.
warm and pleasant is Sandra Bookman. Shirleen isn’t liked by most.

I can definitely see that. There was never chemistry like he had with Lori. Sandra seems like the “work mom” that everyone loves. Everyone seemed to have liked Ken as a person it’s sad that it ended this way. Sadly it’s not likely but I wonder if anyone will pick him up at some point

  12. So not to speculate but who do we think gets the spot? I really hope it’s (finally) Michelle. And do we actually expect an anchor shuffle like mentioned above or will it just be to replace the openings..

One last thing.. for example like David Novarro does the noon and 4.. would a morning show spot be considered a “promotion” being that it’s a more viewed time than the early afternoon shows?

Wow this sucks. Ken was a fixture on morning for years since Steve Bartelstein was out. I see WABC either giving Mike Marza or Michelle Charlesworth the slot. If Michelle gets the slot, make Tony Yates the permanent weekend AM anchor.

According to a post above it doesn’t seem like it’s just gonna be a slide in move. Looks like there might be more.

  14. It SEEMS as if WABC is testing some different anchor pairings. Today I guess Liz is off.. I’m not sure who anchored at 4 but Sandra and Sade did the 5:00 show. Bill who is not off did not off did the 6:00 show solo. I noticed too a few weeks ago when Bill did the evening shows that he did not do the 11 and Mike Marza was on.

The format itself is known for what they call “happy talk”… things like “gee it’s a shame that happened” or “let’s hope they get those guys!”.. are you suggesting it goes beyond innocuous comments?

Yes it absolutely does, he shows clear bias.

Just because something used to be done frequently doesn’t make it a good thing by virtue of it being done in the past.

I’m not a fan of commentary during the news; I think stations should trust their viewers to be informed enough to think critically and form their own opinions based on the information they’re given. If stations don’t trust their viewers to have informed opinions, to me that implies they’re doing a piss poor job of informing them.

That being said, if a station runs editorials, they should be clearly labeled as such and separated from straight news. Bill Beutel anchored editorial segments at WABC after he retired, but to my knowledge, he always kept it straight when he anchored the news. There’s a difference between a clearly identifiable editorial and a newsreader who thinks his/her opinion needs to be injected into every story.

That’s exactly it. FOX5 used to do Lews View and clearly label it.. I believe WPIX too used to do something similar.. Bill just interjects and shows clear bias.

  17. Does anyone know who anchored at 4 yesterday?
Sandra and Joe did the 5 and did EXCELLENT with the breaking news (as expected)

Liz and Joe at 6 again excellent

Not sure about the 11.. I might be a little bias here cause I’m not a huge fan of Bill Ritter but it was so nice seeing some different faces on there and not throwing in any sort of comments just straight and to the point.

Are News 12 anchors that well known to require a non compete clause?

I find those strange. We want you out because we dont want to pay you a certain amount, but we also don't want you working anywhere else.

Agreed. NYC is a saturated media market. The entire appeal of News 12 was hyperlocal focus on overlooked areas in a massive media market. Now that News 12 has lost it's defining trait, the only reason to watch is a quick news update at anyhour.

I guess it depends.. you had Eileen Lapalmer (not sure of spelling) go right to WPIX.. Anthony Carlo right to WABC..
