I think one is for control of the maps/visuals and the other one is to control the prompted. Looks awful.

They used to do it all the time like this then it seemed to have stopped for a while

  2. The other day when Star Harvey posted the new set she said something along the lines of other changes coming that she “couldn’t talk about yet” I wonder if she moves to weekday mornings or does at least part of the week?

New looks at the studio via Kirstin Cole's instagram. It looks like the part across from the anchor desk is not yet done? Or it could just be not shown on air/extra storage?

The only part I think we haven't seen yet is the interview area?

No word yet on a debut date, but I'm guessing maybe next week or the week after.

Star Harvey posted as well. Looks like maybe possibly the interview area across from the weather area.. also posted “I’ll have more news to share in a few weeks”

Does this include weather and sports anchors? Haven’t had a chance to watch in several weeks.

Not too sure. I only saw the first few minutes and last few minutes of the show. Hopefully we’ll see tonight

Aw congrats to him. He looks great! He definitely seems ready to take on the market! Let's see what happens in the coming months.

Slightly off topic, question is the social distancing format that we've been seeing on all of television a permanent thing now or are people going to start sitting closer together again now that the vaccinations are increasing? I would hope they return back to the normal format from pre-covid.

I think they’ll be back closer/normal format soon. News 12 just allowed both anchors in the studio again (for Hudson Valley/ LI regions at least). WABC seems to have the anchors further apart than others as most stations are using a wide shot rather than split screen. All that being said with vaccinations increasing I could see regular set up returning sooner than later

  6. Seems like News12 is taking a similar stance with coverage.. this morning all regions took the Long Island feed for the shooting at Stop and Shop. This afternoon for the verdict  it seemed they all took the New Jersey feed.. it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out in the future especially with the development of the News 12 New York feed online

New York is too different from region to region for one statewide newscast to find traction. Upstate people hate downstate people; the (NYC) northern suburbs don’t care about anything or anyone other than Metro North; Long Islanders are too busy being stuck in traffic; and everyone hates Staten Island.

I think the solution for WPIX is to move out of Midtown East, and move to Queens. Then, build a newscast and image that is New York City, other than Manhattan. Forget Manhattan news. Concentrate on the other four boroughs and their 7,000,000 residents.

It’s harder to do, and requires some real outside the box work. But it would give New York something it doesn’t have: a newscast that resembles and reflects New York.

I can see something like this happening with News 12.. they seem to be trying to “up” their image and they have already launched News12 New York online..

seems like they’re lighter stories right now but they’re pulled from each News12 station.. it’s kind of interesting to wonder if it’ll develop more and make it to tv.

I've been noticing Rosanna anchoring GDNY solo. I'm surprised they wouldn't give her a fill in host for that 3 hour slot.

Since the pandemic it’s been happening a lot. Lori as well has been solo a few times.. I figured it was to limit exposure, kind of a long time to anchor solo

Off topic from the mic but despite her speaking time only being about 10 seconds of that clip, Dari still managed to stumble over every other word. 🤦🏾‍♂️

I would love to see Lori Stokes take over the 10:00 slot. The 6:00 is her show and a pretty good format with her so keep her at 6 solo and 10 with Steve.

Will 2 anchors get anchor closely together on CBS 2 News, when everything gets back to original normal?

Will CBSN New York's newscasts come back in the mornings, weekends?

Will traffic updates be back on the weekday morning newscasts?

I’m sure within the next few months things will start going back to normal...

Why is everyone assuming Shirleen is leaving? She’s just filling in for Mona for a few days this week. Same when NBC & CBS borrow local talent from their affiliates one assumes that such and such person is joining the network 😒

Who assumed she was leaving? All that was mentioned was she has potential to move to network and potential moves if she does? Not sure where anyone said she’s leaving.

Actually you're right, I kind of leapfrogged over their vets. I actually thought of Lauren Glassberg as well. But I don't see Sandra moving to mornings (I'm actually eying her retirement sometime in a few years) and so many people here believe (and seem to have anecdotal word) that Michelle prefers weekends. I love either, but again, yeah I just leapfrogged (oops) and assumed.

I mean I don’t see this being for a few years but I could see Michelle taking a weekday spot now that her kids are older. I feel that many viewers and many on here felt she wanted/deserved the morning spot (and she did deserve it) so who knows what the future may hold.

Shirleen certainly has the potential to be national, but I don't know if she wants to...? Certainly she won't want to be a correspondent, with a soon-to-be 3rd child coming, since that job means lots of travel. But they also have plenty based at HQ in NY. If Shirleen might have a Linsey or Diane-adjacent role, where's the room for her? As for WNN, Kenneth and Shirleen are BFFs with a long history of course, but Mona's also been there not too long (relatively speaking) so I'm sure Shirleen won't be going there (plus the hours are even worse).

And I assume if Shirleen leaves, then Candace is her replacement? Love Candace and her live shots are great, but...will WABC actually pull the trigger? Anyways, I'm more of a pessimist, so I think Shirleen will stay put for a while and will actually be encouraged to do so for some time.

Why would it be Candace? Sorry but I think there’s some time before that. Sandra and Michelle have much better chemistry with Ken and Sam

  14. Lori Stokes is really becoming the face of FOX5.. she anchored GDNY this morning.. filled in for Dari at 5 and then did her regular 6.. I really liked her at 5. Would like to see her anchor the evenings permanently.

There’s a commercial airing with clips from vintage 10pm newscasts, trying to show that the current Fox 5 is similar to the Fox 5 of years ago. Sadly, that’s not the case, and I doubt we’ll see any format changes.

I will say the 6:00 has definitely improved with Lori. I like the format with a few interviews thrown in.. I wish they’d bring back sports tho. The 5:00 and 10:00 need work. The anchors have no flow and they just don’t seem to “mesh” I would really like to see anchor change this year and if they go with a more hard news format they could easily beat 11 and maybe even 4?

Fox 5 has changed the branding of its evening newscasts. Instead of “Fox 5 News at [Time],” they are calling the newscasts “The [Time] O’Clock News.”  This is clearly an homage to the longstanding “The 10 O’Clock News” and somewhat follows the pattern of other newscasts with their own name, like “Good Day New York” and “The Noon.”

What do we think?  I don’t know if I like dropping the “Fox 5” part from the title.

Hopefully with the name change comes some content change and a newscast worth watching.

And, if you can't do it right, don't do it!

Hard to identify faces - it doesn't work.

If all you have to worry is a TV stations Christmas commercial after the year that we’ve had you are one lucky person.

They are clearly trying to boost some spirits and keep a tradition going while keeping their staff safe. Jeez.

  18. I wouldn’t mind Lori moving to evenings at all. She would definitely help ratings and improve the newscast. Good Day needs a male presence if you ask me.. obviously no chance of Greg coming back at this point but they need someone like that who balances it a bit.

  19. I wouldn’t mind seeing Lori moved to evenings and paired with someone else.. bring a harder feel to the evening and let her do the “bigger” interviews. Then bring in a new male anchor for the morning (preferably but unlikely Greg Kelly)
