They might not be THAT quick—mornings feel like it’ll fall in place by May at the latest—but they’re building this out at a rather steady pace and experimenting with likely talent pairings.

It’s a staggered approach then launching all newscast like station in 1995 with new news departments did. They trying to be new kids on the block but hitting the ground running, try to catch up with the pace of the D.

The entire 7pm streaming hour today was a WGPR/WKBD reunion, with Amyre Jr. interviewing her mother and former director Ken Bryant.

That so beautiful, WXYZ Detroit Glenda and Diana Lewis did a Mother’s Day show in 2004.

The new local station trend is apparently being on at ANYtime someone wakes up, and just contine into the noon newscast. Basically 4am-1pm.

That why I like the variety programs, like after the clock with Chris, and Megan, and Henry.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to share the video instead of screenshots, but I suggest to see this one ASAP because they may quickly remove this video. By the looks of it, it’s a modified and small scaled version of the KTLA set. Good to see that at least some progress has already been made

I was gonna say a much scaled version of KTLA set, hopefully they fill the front monitor with a live feed, Using blue typography graphics is fine like KTLA. But in the morning they even use a live shot, obviously the sides should be better, more expanded hopefully the weather there doesn't need to be one on set. I need foo see the final result before I give a grade.

Apparently, this is what will feed the primary min, monitor.

What a shame. I loved Amy on GMA. Her and TJ are complete morons for this.

So Mika and Joe are morons, no I hope they get picked up by CNN or MSNBC. I don’t agree with the decision. Rhiannon Ally and Demarco Morgan are great. Hopefully no love dust falls on them, Mike Marza is a nice guy.

100% true. Not only that, but they spent too much money. Burnt it all the way through, with projects including what I mentioned, thinking they're gonna be like CNN.

Yeah, their only highest ratings was Kentaji Brown Jackson committee hearings because she the first black women to b in the Supreme Court. When they first launched in February the afternoons were reruns, that would have been a safe move. But then when Prince Hair came in he did too much, I just feel for the employees who never got their paychecks because Shad Khan stopped funding them. What really pissed me off was what Byron Allen did saying "We don't need a black news channel, we need a good news channel". I lost a lot of respect for him as a black man for saying that. Because truth is we really do need one, he just comes from the scary and no guts civil rights generation who doesn't wanna take risks like GenZ folks wanna do.

That reminds me of the Black News Channel. They did something similar, and offered BNC GO. One hour of live news and repeats of it. We all know how that turned out.

The only reason Black News Channel failed is because of one simple thing, they expanded to fast. And low viewership. They just couldn't support all those shows, Still alive today have they started slow.

Ironic as Nextar (or what used to be Nextar's) station in the #1 market --WPIX-- looks sub par.

The design in NEW York in term rendering are really good. WPIX new set is taking forever to supply chain issues there actually redoing the whole building to retrofit NewsNations shows.

I'll gave them the solution. They could probably buy LPTV Channel 3 very cheaply. I doubt that anybody can even pick it up over there with rabbit ears. Once you have a virtual Channel 3, FCC rules say that every signal you own in the market can have the same channel number. They can become CBS 3 with a snap of the fingers, right along with Fox 2 and NBC 4.

And ABC7 I’ll be New York and LA all over again.

I am curious to see how this arrangement will work out. Extra (ET/Access) have to tape early in order to feed early to east coast affilliates. I don't see Jenn and Melvin hanging around in the event of breaking news. They will do their 6-9 slot and be gone by 10am. Not knocking their additional side hustles, but seems like this can't be a sustainable way forward for KTTV.

I think KTTV should have placed weekend refugee from KTLA Christina Pascucci on weekdays. She has the following, has the news chops and knows the area. USC graduate, raised in LA.

Yeah when it 3pm on the east, 12 PST it possibly manageable if they share a building.

That leaves Linsey Davis and Whit Johnson as major players for now.

Lindsey Davis is a rising star, taking on Sunday's, ABC News Live Lead anchor, an ABC News Radio Iconic announcer for its time slot at 5pm. She's Definitely second in command to David give it 20 years she'll have the Anchor & Managing Editor role on ABC World News Tonight as she is younger than David. Whit Johnson looks good as the face at the mornings he good there, he be a great successor to George Stephanopolus if he were to step down and retire. But I see more in Lindsey because she a calming, soothing, voice but very commanding at times. Though she is good on Good Morning America also. But if ABC plays there cards right and doesn't screw her over she can ascend to WNT, because she has that kinda hunger to threaten to leave the network if passed over or isn't even considered for something.

I’ve also seen that they only have the time/temp on for morning and midday newscasts now, no longer on the the long-established prime time block or late news. Haven’t checked the 4:00 PM on 9 or the 5:00–6:30 PM on 2.

That’s a step backward, in my view, because the other news-producing stations in L.A. (KTLA, KABC, KTTV, KMEX, KVEA) have it on for every newscast (and have done so for more than a decade) while the only other one not have it on the late news is KNBC (except, inexplicably, on Saturday nights).

I know that so twenty years ago. Almost every west coast station has time/temp and got there act together. It’s a step back plus why did they have that in the 90s?

Did not see that one coming at all. She seemed to be in the running, along with Amy, for ascension to Robin’s chair once that eventually opens up. Her latest ABC contract made her the Friday co-anchor as Robin doesn’t work on Fridays.

    Good for her and CBS.

Well Linsey Davis could be a good successor, to Robin's seat. But that if Roberts decide to throw in the towel.

Screenshot from my phone at the start of the news at 10. It still has traces of the Nexstar days, but it was probably easier refresh than a full studio remodel. The BAM behind Phil and Alexis is something I haven’t seen in the market before. I don’t really know if any markets around Indy have something like it. Graphics package looks like Action News Jax meets WISH graphics from Nexstar. I did notice “steps” behind Phil, which makes me wonder if the desk can be moved and those can be used for any anchor stand ups for specials, etc.

I waited long for this, at least it aint a full remodel. Still because the "Old" set was still very nice they kept parts of it yeah that monitor ticker and corner part of the set I didn't like. Replacing with the curved moniter is nice.

Houston isn’t that attractive of a city. Most southern cities aren’t attractive enough to pull in people at the pay they’re offering.

I wouldn't say that, because rival Dallas is pulling in.

I'm going to guess that KCBS hasn't had a problem attracting viewers to network fare in primetime, daytime, late night, etc., but viewers have seemingly gone out of their way to change the channel when CBS2 News comes on. No need to move affiliations, as CBS programming surely does just fine. KCAL has been the more successful news brand, so they're leaning into it.

Also i'll help KCBS because there associated with KCAL.

  17. 1 hour ago, Daybreak said:

So KCAL Morning News will be the main morning newscast? Wow that’s crazy to see for a city like LA. The CBS affiliate will not have a morning newscast dedicated solely for that channel.

It makes sense KCBS has been in the basement since the 80s. It was time for something new. Plus thy still have 6am simulcast.

Broadcast primetime TV is a mix of stale sitcoms, tons of stale and stupid reality shows, the same washed-out crime dramas (i.e., CBS's THREE FBI: "Insert Here" shows, multiple NCIS shows, multiple CSIs) and the same washed-out medical dramas. Then they jump the shark, add relationships to the shows instead of focusing on the premise of the program. The Good Doctor used to be about an autistic savant doctor. Now, it's about his relationships with women and the relationships between other doctors/nurses at the hospital. Grey's Anatomy - same thing.

The Goldbergs keeps going even though the 'kids' are now in their early-to-late 20s. I don't know how they do, the show has jumped the shark since the loss of George Segal and Jeff Garlin's departure. Abbott Elementary isn't that bad, on the other hand, and nor is Ghosts on CBS, but sitcoms for the most part have no life to them anymore. And yes, political messaging has destroyed many of these primetime shows. They just can't seem to have an unbiased plot on a drama or sitcom anymore - it has to show activism in some way.

Game shows - you can't seem to find any contestant on any primetime or daytime show (except maybe Jeopardy!/Wheel) that isn't on five energy drinks' worth of caffeine. The Price is Right is one of the biggest examples, but even the last few primetime shows (The Wheel, Beat Shazam, Press Your Luck) are like this too...

Late night TV shows have also declined to new lows. Same jokes about former President Trump EVERY NIGHT on every single show. We get it, I can't stand him either, but he's no longer POTUS. Surely is there anything else to make fun about? Segments are mundane and cookie-cutter compared to previous hosts (Leno's Headlines, Craig Ferguson, Geoff and Secretariat, Carnac on Johnny Carson). They have little to no creative value to viewers. I love Bill Maher, but I don't watch any other late night show. That ship sailed when Letterman, Ferguson, and Leno retired.

Even the soap opera fans are noticing extremely poor writing and the lack of nuance on Y&R, B&B and General Hospital, compared to 20-30 years ago. Days already went to Peacock (to die, probably). It looks as though the rest of the soaps are also on life support.

Do NOT get me started on cable TV. What was entertaining (Cubs games and Bozo on WGN, great movies and Night Tracks on TBS, Cartoon Express on USA etc.) has become a wasteland of binge-watching repeats, zillions of commercials (of which Limu Emu gets at least 1/3 of the airtime), and reality shows that keep getting worse by the year. TruTV aired 'Jurassic World' last night. The channel for live, rolling court coverage and analysis is now running not just hours of Impractical Jokers, but also MOVIES. What gives! Nickelodeon = zillions of SpongeBob repeats with oodles of commercials. Food Network = tons of food competitions, very few how-to cooking shows. Where art thou, Essence of Emeril, Barefoot Contessa, etc.? TWC spends all night running Highway Through Hell repeats (and all day on weekends) and once in a while, they will shove those away if there's major tornadoes. The ghosts of Dr. John Hope and Dave Schwartz haunt the studios, I bet. What was Chuck Roberts and Gordon Graham on Headline News 24 hours a day has turned into WEST WING repeats. Oh, and a zillion Forensic Files showings. Might as well call it TNT2 at this point. TLC's constant reality garbage, same with Bravo, USA, MTV, Discovery Channel. GSN's constant Harvey Feud repeats, too! Isn't he on a few other cable channels...TVLand maybe?

Honestly, I'd be fine only getting ESPN, ESPN2, and a few other sports networks a la carte. The rest of cable TV is garbage. Yes, that includes CNN/FOX News/MSNBC.

Honestly, I stopped watching TV for the most part after the start of the pandemic. And for the most part, except for some sports, and maybe the local news, I haven't come back. I would rather watch a classic movie or Seinfeld repeat than 95% of what's on TV nowadays.

    RANT OVER.

I would create a show dedicated to Social Media Influencers and Pranksters. That'll definitely draw an audience.

Rabbit ears analog was way better. I preferred the static over scratching and glitching from digital.

But that's analog, unless they're digital. I just like dignets affiliation agreements seems cheaper with groups. Also they could use cable, yes but streaming makes it more profitable. That's the good but the only downside is that they require a certain cord/or feed to be available on local cable provider to be seen as a .2 channel of a station.
