That is caca, and you know it. And I won't even wanna ask for proof too.

You don't know that, you don't know that, I'm being neutral on this, but he may have worked at WABC. So this reaction by several of you guys are to stop and it not “caca” cause you dont know that he obviously has been around her and worked with her either at WABC or WPVI. This is a good time to mention this was the same reaction when former Channel 7 anchor Charles Perez took a blowtorch to the station telling his experiences about some of the anchors, hello he worked there too. I'm not saying whether I believe it or not but I'm staying neutral if I knew SA yes I defend her however i’d be neutral about it and listen to both sides, including the accuser. They're is a cause an effect unless you are mentally ill no man calls a woman that word for no reason this is why I'm neutral because there must've been a reason for it, not defending him using that word but again there is has to be a reason. I'm not saying SA is a bad person but he has more experience with her because that’s was his co-anchor. When Camilie Edwards got fired for fostering a toxic work environment you guys went into full drive and said she should be fired I remember that, I could've called the allegations against her “caca” the bottom line is you don't know what happened.

    I'm defending @nynewsguy

Personally I've been interested in the business I contacted on Linkedin some anchors they don't even respond. I could understand a network reporter not responding but not a local feel like WABC, WNBC, WCBS anchors think there network correspondents because they work in the #1 market, they get paid a lot with salaries that's close to or network level money. And they have drivers and specific specifications like network journalists this is for them I'm sure Los Angees and Chicago anchors have those experiences too, the reality is you simply don't know and stop disregarding his account that made me really mad, stop ostracizing!

Phil Lipof would never come back unless he was anchoring with Michelle GUARANTEED! So we can just forget about that pipe dream.

Who would leave network for local news, I’d never do that even it was part time. Unless my contract doesn’t get renewed.

if she was going to ABC News, that would’ve been announced and celebrated on air and online as an internal promotion… not just a silent scrubbing of her bio from the website.  She’s probably off to a competing station or network.

True I just know Al Roker did it low-key apparently. What I saw in a video, also the ND and GM of the station can't do anything about it.

Yeah it was definitely not as much the adding of Jodi as anchor; but rather the forced demotion of Jim and Kaity, who many would argue was one of, if not the best long running anchor teams in NYC in terms of chemistry, skill, and trust (next to Chuck and Sue).

Yeah I have to add to that, but Jodi Applegate could’ve holded a 6pm show. Kaity and Jim would still be here if that stupid Bill Carrey move didn’t happened.

KCAL is a temporary situation; Wendy explained outright it was a much stronger brand than “CBS 2” ever was and they had to reconcile both brands (which prior regimes never did) before starting the process of streamlining everything. Odds are impressively high that “CBS Los Angeles” will ultimately subsume the KCAL brand in less than a year, and KCAL itself becomes “CBS Los Angeles+”.

That’s to confusing for viewers you’re factoring CBS, KCAL, and the streaming app, and network news. KCAL News or KCAL News on CBS Los Angeles would sound better.

We can see that Gray is putting forth the effort to make WANF a competitive local station.  We didn't see Tribune (during the WGNX era) and Meredith (during the WGCL era) doing much investing in the station.

Tribune had originally wanted the station to be an affiliate of the now defunct WB network, but settled with CBS in an 11th hour deal as CBS wanted a station viewers were more familiar with and had a functioning news operation.  They weren't very motivated in adding additional newscasts outside of Noon, 6PM, & 11PM.

Meredith, while they may have added morning, 5PM, & 4PM newscasts on main station, and prime-time newscast on WPCH (Peachtree TV), they're remembered for the failed Clear News experiment, to the the back-and-forth between CBS Atlanta and CBS 46 brandings, and being a revolving door station when it came to retaining on-air talents.

Gray, which is Atlanta-based, sees potential with adding 9AM, 3PM, and 7PM newscasts to the main station, and adding 7-9AM newscast and expanding prime-time news on WPCH, and not relying too heavily on CBS.  WANF has potential to beat WXIA (known as 11Alive), which has seen better days, and some may even jokingly refer to as "11Dead".  WAGA (Fox 5) and WSB (Channel 2 Action News) are the top 2 stations.

They could challenge in a battle for #2. It’s possible, because of the audiences they want.

Why does CBS still own WUPA? That’s a question for the theologians. But the same question can be asked of KSTW, WTOG, and others as well. And if CBS pulls their CW affiliations from said stations, it’s not an automatic that they’re going to be actively seeking CBS affiliations for those. Heck, they could run them as 24/7 linear CBS News stations. They could do a number of things, but I think we can’t speculate about what hasn’t happened yet.

The LIV Golf situation could make that happen faster.

Detroit is market #number 15, it’s cheaper to build News departments than it was in 1995. Because you can say goodbye to live trucks and hello to LiveUs, no more microwave trucks digital broadband now. And it’s profitable than a syndie because of local ADs. Wouldn’t surprised if the latter is more expensive. So expanding will be profitable no matter the ratings.

But ABC 7 --the #1 local news station in the country -- looks pretty bad. Their set and HD quality looks cheap. At least WNBC has decent graphics

Well you’re gonna have to wait a little longer maybe 5 more years. Trinity Church is not done yet I’ll be a historic move cause no New York station the number #1 especially a flagship has moved HQs buildings in fact all of ABC News will move there too.

I hope she’s goes network. I realized not a lot of WABC talent jumps to network. I barely see Cefann filing reports there. WTVDs Morgan Norwood went network first with News one, now she’s in New York as a based correspondent and partially helps WABC but isn’t on the local team, Lionel Moise does the same (also a former Raleigh journalist at WNCN), even former, ABC11alum Tim Pulliam is now splitting time between KABC where he left us for last year and the afílate news service kinda nice to see him on our screen again.

I know @Samanthadid the progression for the other new affiliates earlier in this thread, but I looked up the timetable for WOIO when I redid that station’s Wikipedia article:

WOIO’s news service launched on February 5, 1995, with a 6pm and 11pm seven days a week, as an outgrowth of WUAB’s 10pm news. Noon and an hour-long 6am newscast were added in December 1996. 5:30am on WOIO and 11:30am on WUAB were added on October 1997 (the latter cancelled less than a year later).

It wasn’t until January 2002, just before the Action News relaunch, that WOIO added a 5pm news. A 4pm followed in 2003. The 3pm and a 9am news (the latter coming over from their OTT service and reformatted as a general newscast in March 2020) were added in 2019.

To be honest, it’s almost unfair to compare this launch effort with WOIO or any of the other newly-launched news departments between 1994 and 1996 and the New World-Fox fallout. Everything—the audience, the resources needed and procured for a news service, and the means to measure television audiences—are totally different. As is what Paramount would define as a success for CBS News Detroit… or WOIO in the present day.

Also, they have it wasn't expensive to launch a news department back then, with Microwave trucks, and news truck, and cameras, and satellite they had to take news slow. Today with technology, with Live U's they can get rid of news trucks, microwave trucks, and with IP replacing satelite its a little cheaper to produce news especially with WWJ having a majority of its reporter not even coming into the building. I'm not saying it still expensive but fixed cost and operating cost are lower today then back then.

To be blunt, would anyone be surprised if ABC winds up wholesale rebranding their O&Os in the same way the CBS O&Os are? As @Weeters brought up to me, Wendy McMahon came to CBS from ABC, and did so after Iger retired.

Just because Action News is the Delaware Valley’s Leading News Program (Disney has to pay Apollo-Cox for the “Action” name) or Eyewitness News is “News York’s #1 News” (and Disney has to pay Paramount Global for the EWN name) doesn’t mean those names are ironclad. If CBS can get this new branding convention to work, the other three networks will follow.

Nothing is ironclad or impenetrable. It might even be the reason why the ABC O&O graphic redo has been placed on hold indefinitely…

I thought Disney owned Action News wow, Eyewitness started in Philly than better crafted in New York. Hmm interesting.

Apparently they did use an alternate open for Friday’s 6pm news which removed the talent open similarly to 5 and 11pm.

I think that gives an impression, the new ABC O&O graphics will get rid of talent, openers.

I agree.   WCBS has the best set.  And lighting.  I find it is the most polished set.

And the worst set is WNBC.   That lucite table is horrendous.  It's not a desk, it's a table.

WNJU was good till the updated it past it barebones. It almost like what WMAQ with their old set. Don’t leave WXTV out.

I watched some of their newscasts yesterday. As @ThunderJay27 pointed out, they’ve already eliminated all verbal references to the “Eyewitness News” name (except for the intros). They’re ditching the brand, and it’s for the best. It may be associated with the station’s early history, but it’s also associated with a long period of low ratings, as well as the racism of the Dunn/Friend era (see this article; viewers even referred to the newscasts as “White-Witness News”). The name doesn’t carry the goodwill that it does in NYC, for example, where the “Eyewitness News” name actually fits the newscasts WABC puts out.

I know KYW wasn’t successful the last time they dropped the name, but this rebrand is nothing like the last one. They aren’t completely retooling the newscasts with people nobody knows. The anchors and reporters are all the same. They’re even making a conscious effort to heavily promote Ukee Washington. The only thing that’s changing is the presentation.

True… KYW was hardest hit by those racism allegation I’ve never seen Ukee (who deserves and now is the chief anchor) even get that emotional. I’m glad he’s the face of the station. Eyewitness News Is now an ABC since all there O&O are most-watched or #1 outright.

From what I've seen so far this week, the reporters are transitioning to the CBS News Philadelphia tag. So looks like the end of an era may be on the horizon.

Gosh the Eyewitness News tag, Its dying only a handful carries them mostly ABC. I could probably count on my finger who still have it. KGO should pick it up, All non-action news ABC O&Os should have the title since they own it.

There is heavy speculation that KDKA and KYW will indeed, rebrand their newscasts as CBS News Pittsburgh/Philadelphia.

I hope CBS gives KYW some permission to keep “Eyewitness News” as a secondary brand, hopefully reporters still say it at the end of live shots.

Having recently done extensive research into the histories of a number of the biggest post-New World station builds, they mostly were staggered over a period of months.

KSHB had an existing 9pm news which moved to 10 at the time of switch. A 5 was added in October 1994, a 6 in March 1995, but mornings had to wait until the summer of 1996.

WDJT added two newscasts at the same time in its March 1996 news debut and then a third shortly thereafter. Weekend news was added the next year. Took them until 2001 to compete in mornings.

KNXV started news at 10 on August 1, 1994. They added a 6 in about October, 5 in December, and mornings and middays in January 1995 when the remainder of the ABC programming moved over.

WFTS aired its first news on December 12, 1994, but only at 6 and 11. The remaining newscasts showed up in the first four months of 1995.

WGNX was not like many of the others. They were not producing a full line of newscasts until the new millennium: just noon, 6, and 11. It was not until Meredith took over that they added morning and 5 p.m. newscasts.

WPTY went in all at once in evenings. When they debuted, they had 5, 6, 9 (WLMT) and 10. It took them at LEAST a decade to start a morning newscast!

WWJ started with 6 and 11 (not including streaming hours) and has added a newscast in each of the two following weeks. Mornings do seem like they will take a little longer, and I'd expect that because of the time slot. Evening news additions tend to be more incremental, while mornings require a whole other team of on- and off-camera personnel.

I used staggered wrongly… WWJ is going quicker than all of them. It crazy WPTY took a decade. But you forgot Jax and WJXX they did a full-slate of newscasts on the first day they were not in a new world market but you know what I mean. KEYE did so also.
