  1. Someone requested this subject be moved to this chat, so well, I’m gonna do it. This morning (December 29th, 2023) at 6:00am EST, Dabl rebranded from a lifestyle network to a Black-oriented channel, primarily airing sitcoms from the CBS Media Ventures library. In addition, it discontinued streaming free as a FAST network online. The network is now managed by Weigel Broadcasting.
  2. WVIR finally switched to 29 News and said goodbye to their long-time use of Gari’s “NBC Collection” package, replacing it with “Aerial”. They use the same exact cut of “Aerial” for EVERY NEWSCAST. Somehow no switching to GrayONE yet again. WVIR also changed voiceovers from that unknown male to Sean King. WVIR uses a mix of voices from SpotVoice.com for its promos, and so it was inevitable that WVIR was gonna use someone from that roster when it was time to update the opens.
  3. Well, no question there. KCNC = owned by CBS KUSA = owned by Tegna
  4. According to newsmusicsearcharchive.com, you can add KKCO and KJCT to the “This is The Place” naughty use or nice use of theme list now.
  5. Yesterday at 5pm, KTTC made a music switch from “The Rock” to “This is The Place”, which seems to be the new standard for Gray stations. Edit just minutes after I posted this: WNDU has changed to GrayONE, also changing their music from “Aerial” to “Inergy”, both from Stephen Arnold Music.
  6. I mean, they were an O&O at one point, so it’s sorta weird it all came crashing down.
  7. Metinka Slater is WHO-TV meteorologist #6.
  8. I can think of a few exceptions. And believe it or not, these are all not owned by Gray. WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia WSOC-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina KIII-TV in Corpus Christi, Texas
  9. No switch to GrayONE yet, but WMTV got the new brand (15 News) and new music (Unite from Stephen Arnold Music) on Wednesday.
  10. Joe Scanlan, a former morning anchor (actually departed not too long ago) at KSNB (Local4) in York/Lincoln, Nebraska (licensed to Hastings) has been charged with a felony. The station says that his employment ended on November 3rd, and, according to court records, he has since relocated to Arlington, Texas. Here’s the full article.
  11. Breaking news! Binghamton’s WBNG has officially launched GrayONE. And this one was way needed. A small market like that really deserves recognition. You can watch the official confirming video on (what else?) Studio 31 Media Archive on YouTube.
  12. “Brought to you by Jack’s”? That should be used for only FORECASTS. Whether or not they screwed up sponsorship, it’s a good improvement for the station, even since they were using that sometimes-low-budget Gray graphics sliding thing that looks like your news budget is $2,500.
  13. If you put it one way or another, you could see on one end that Tegna has good production values, but on another, you get an annoying news theme (C Clarity) that “all stations HAVE to use”. I’ve seen stations like KYTX (on their morning show called “Morning Y’all”) use other themes for stuff. Totally weird.
  14. And of course THAT had to happen somewhere. Pringles, Mastercard, ABC, NBC, and now, XXX (the) CW. Although after 17-18 years of the same exact thing, this feels like a breath of fresh air. It had to almost be predicted that NewsNation would get the shorter end of the stick. Just goes to show how much people don’t use cable anymore.
  15. It’s important to note that the bottom-third ESPN graphic known as the ESPN BottomLine, which you’ll see a picture of here… actually mentioned The CW when a football (now basketball, found that out while watching College Gameday this morning) game was gonna be broadcast on the channel. So probably not what you’re thinking.
  16. Courtside Saturday on The CW has officially “tipped off” today with Notre Dame vs #8 Miami and #7 Duke vs Georgia Tech. No pictures yet, but I can tell it ain’t the ESPN College Basketball graphics they’re using.
  17. Red flags here. 1. The station owner is a POLITICIAN. That’s a disaster waiting to happen. 2. He fires more than half of the news crew the station started with. 3. You WILL end up surrendering and working for news stations in other cities. 4. Your budget for newscasts goes DOWN THE DRAIN. Don’t be like KVRR/KQDS. (I sound like one of those children’s advice posters lol)
  18. WCBS anchor and former political activist Pablo Guzmán has died at the age of 73. Below are 2 articles. Here’s number 1.. And number 2.
  19. I’m watching it right now, and WOAH. You added good graphics, outside reporters, and news EXCLUSIVES? My goodness. I do think that if it’s only an 8pm newscast, you could probably add more newscasts at different times.
  20. Lemme ask you something. Who in their right mind even has the HARD-WORKING HANDS to leave a news station to be a person in a school?
  21. Current affiliation: Cozi TV Lemme guess, Jimmy’s gonna Sonlife their sorry butts?
  22. “It is the first set overhaul in 15 years.” They did do newscasts at Oregon State University-Cascades for a little while.
  23. Perhaps they could move NXT to Wednesday nights, but a problem with that is that it could restart the Wednesday Night Wars with AEW and TBS.
