Morgan Murphy (WISC and WKBT) is based in Wisconsin, correct? They could be the biggest poachers and might have the best opportunity here.
-
WJHG doesn't go by "First Alert" either, so it isn't like every market in the area has that exclusive to Gray.
-
Or an extension of KWCH...

If a statewide newscast is introduced, the fact they don't have stations in the two northern markets does limit that...
-
I'd assume that WVLT will get into it too - and in Chattanooga, WRCB??
-
That's probably a trial run for Gray to see if it works, especially with (for most stations) political revenue gone for a while.
-
Outside of evenings, KTTC will be doing the KEYC newscasts from what I've read.
-
Gray has made massive layoffs today, especially at the smaller stations. They probably know 2025 is going to be a brutal year.

Some are ridiculously large, like Denver includes areas more than 500 miles away from the city, which is for no reason at all IMO (those are sparsely populated areas in the High Plains often in areas where small-market stations are nearby).

The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread
GoldenShine_10 replied to NEOMatrix's topic in Graphics
That said, WABI has fully unleashed GrayOne (and has for a while) so either they had different systems from the Diversified era or the former got an upgrade under Gray that WCJB did not. From what I can tell, the ex-Hoak stations needed the most upgrades (and still none of them are using GrayOne), but most others have been able to transition no problem. -
NBC Considering Giving 10pm/9pm Back To Affiliates

Have networks considered having a national newscast in the late evenings as well, such as at 10 pm (9 pm CT)? -
The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread
GoldenShine_10 replied to NEOMatrix's topic in Graphics
It does seem to be becoming more consistent - some date back to previous owners. That said, there are a few stations that can't use that branding right now (examples being WJHG, KCTV and KKTV) because a competitor has long used it. WAVE can now adopt it, but that probably will take a bit of time. -
That's interesting. I know WANF also brought a few people down to support WALB and WCTV (including a meteorologist). Not sure if WSB or WXIA brought anyone down.
-
WALB is also wall-to-wall right now, although sharing with WCTV at times. Not sure how much WCJB did in Gainesville.
-
It's one of their crown jewels - I highly doubt they are going to sell it.

By the end of the decade, DFW could very well be the #3 market in the country, which would be a big change.

The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread
GoldenShine_10 replied to NEOMatrix's topic in Graphics
Are the ex-Hoak stations (i.e., KVLY, KNOE, KSNB) capable of getting GrayOne in their systems, or do they have to get it upgraded first? I noticed those were the stations with weird new (temporary??) packages, and none of them have GrayOne at this time. -
Are there any stations that have their Chief Met do primarily weekends?

Eight CBS Stations to Ditch CW and Go Independent This Fall
GoldenShine_10 replied to AKA's topic in General TV
Same here, that was surprising. I figured the low hanging fruit would be the ones where CBS was on a separate affiliate (and they are worthless to Paramount). However, I thought the next ones to sell would be the smaller O&O's (i.e., outside the top 10 markets). -
In the markets without Gray in Missouri (other than Joplin), the two News Press and Gazette-owned stations are adding it according to the link.
-
The irony is that it may work - in the other direction...mentioned on Speculatron.
-
Lafayette is the one market in Louisiana that they are missing.
-
It might be a boon to get the minor sports, smaller college and high school sports noticed. I wonder how many more of these networks they may launch? And how they would handle states where they are one market short (i.e., Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, West Virginia).

When networks or sister stations help out
GoldenShine_10 replied to Chicago2008's topic in General TV
What happens if they need help and they are a small company or lack sister stations anywhere near? That's one potential disadvantage I can see. I know KHOU also did the same to KBMT after Tropical Storm Imelda in 2019, which flooded the Beaumont studios. -
It seems the company has changed its name from "Gray Television" to "Gray Media" - is that an official change or just a branding change?
