  1. I wrote my thoughts in the Speculatron. Basically, look to the surrounding markets for clues - the smaller ones with news would likely need to be helped by them. Those without news could just go to non-commercial outlets with the networks added to incumbent stations. WHBQ and KOKI are the only real prizes.
  2. Posted my thoughts in Speculatron.
  3. WBRC barely mentions Fox on air anymore either, which is puzzling since it's a very conservative market overall, but I guess they feel like they don't gain as much as they would potentially lose.
  4. Very lazy I agree, although there is usually quite a bit of variance between near the lake (i.e., Marquette city) and the interior, the latter of which can be brutally cold in the winter.
  5. As long as Morgan Murphy doesn't acquire WJFW, that station is sitting there isolated - otherwise, the western/central markets would be all completely aligned. In the case of WEAU, nothing is being cut since there has never been such a newscast. The fact Gray doesn't own a station in Milwaukee prevents anything "completely" statewide from forming.
  6. I believe it was historically, although I think WIFR is the market leader now.
  7. They have one of the best cases to do it, since they are one of only a small number of truly locally-owned independents left in the nation.
  8. Morgan Murphy (WISC and WKBT) is based in Wisconsin, correct? They could be the biggest poachers and might have the best opportunity here.
  9. WJHG doesn't go by "First Alert" either, so it isn't like every market in the area has that exclusive to Gray.
  10. Or an extension of KWCH...
  11. If a statewide newscast is introduced, the fact they don't have stations in the two northern markets does limit that...
  12. I'd assume that WVLT will get into it too - and in Chattanooga, WRCB??
  13. That's probably a trial run for Gray to see if it works, especially with (for most stations) political revenue gone for a while.
  14. Outside of evenings, KTTC will be doing the KEYC newscasts from what I've read.
  15. Gray has made massive layoffs today, especially at the smaller stations. They probably know 2025 is going to be a brutal year.
  16. Some are ridiculously large, like Denver includes areas more than 500 miles away from the city, which is for no reason at all IMO (those are sparsely populated areas in the High Plains often in areas where small-market stations are nearby).
  17. That said, WABI has fully unleashed GrayOne (and has for a while) so either they had different systems from the Diversified era or the former got an upgrade under Gray that WCJB did not. From what I can tell, the ex-Hoak stations needed the most upgrades (and still none of them are using GrayOne), but most others have been able to transition no problem.
  18. Have networks considered having a national newscast in the late evenings as well, such as at 10 pm (9 pm CT)?
  19. It does seem to be becoming more consistent - some date back to previous owners. That said, there are a few stations that can't use that branding right now (examples being WJHG, KCTV and KKTV) because a competitor has long used it. WAVE can now adopt it, but that probably will take a bit of time.
  20. That's interesting. I know WANF also brought a few people down to support WALB and WCTV (including a meteorologist). Not sure if WSB or WXIA brought anyone down.
  21. WALB is also wall-to-wall right now, although sharing with WCTV at times. Not sure how much WCJB did in Gainesville.
  22. It's one of their crown jewels - I highly doubt they are going to sell it.
  23. By the end of the decade, DFW could very well be the #3 market in the country, which would be a big change.
  24. Are the ex-Hoak stations (i.e., KVLY, KNOE, KSNB) capable of getting GrayOne in their systems, or do they have to get it upgraded first? I noticed those were the stations with weird new (temporary??) packages, and none of them have GrayOne at this time.
  25. Are there any stations that have their Chief Met do primarily weekends?
