WABC switching to KABC-type of logo?

Maybe nynewsguy can help us out with this one...

Will WABC be making a subtle switch from its current ABC7 logo to one similar to KABC's? As you know, WABC's logo has the (abc) portion lined up directly with the middle of the Circle (7) portion. KABC, however, has the (abc) portion slightly lower on the Circle (7).

Check the attached photo I took earlier today of a Jimmy Kimmel Live promotional banner. This is hanging right on top of WABC-TV headquarters at 7 Lincoln Square....check out the Circle 7 logo that's used.

they probably didn't have the money for an extra circle 7 logo, and used KABC/KGO's.

Yet they have the money to build KABC a new studio and have the money to build WABC three sets. Yeah right, Mickey has plenty of dough oozing out of his rodent pockets.

Maybe it was the one they used for KABC in Los Angeles. Anyway by no means would the go ahead and make a new banner for WABC although they have a lot of money they can use it for elsewhere that really needs it.

I should clarify by stating this a custom banner made for that building, as are all the banners that hang there...not just another mass-produced one. How can you tell?

If you are passing by the building and look closely, every banner has the ABC New York headquarters' address printed on it.

to answer your question, several people nailed it on the head, sort of.

These banners were all made in Los Angeles. Instead of using all the different circle-7 logos that exist amongst the various ABC O&O stations, they just used the artwork provided by KABC, and made several of them. It's not the same, recycled banner from KABC, merely a copy of it. This logo is also often used in print advertising that is made in CA, but used around the country. Commuters on LIRR and MetroNorth will often notice the KABC logo on ads, along with the CBS2 (KCBS) logo used for New York advertising. It saves on costs, using one set of plates, rather then recreating them for each of the various markets.

All banners which are produced for ABC O&O's have the corporate address printed on them, regardless of the market they're used in.

thanks, nynewsguy! .... always a reliable source. I have to say, though, I bet the people who work hard in promotions at WABC might get a little miffed when they see Corporate sending promotional material to WABC with KABC's logo on it!
