Jiggetts to join Johnson at WMAQ anchor desk

Lauren Jiggetts, 5-year vet of NBC 5, is now co-anchor of the 5 and 10pm weekend newscasts with Dick Johnson. Apparently, her work at the Olympics impressed management and sealed the deal. She will continue reporting during the week. This is the first weekend anchor TEAM since Stafford and Davlantes parted in 2009.

 

I've grown to like Lauren over the last few years, and Dick is always at his best with a co-anchor, so this sounds like a win-win. Best of luck to them both...

I wonder why it took NBC 5 so long to create a weekend news team? There are only two reasons of which I can think: politics or budget. Thoughts?

Well, until a few months ago, they had an anchor "team" - Lisa Parker on Saturdays and Dick Johnson on Sundays. They technically split weekend duties, but instead of half of each newscast, they divided the weekend.

I would say that it was a cost-cutting measure under GE's ownership.
