The new logo will debut Jan. 1 on air and on other Univision platforms. The corporate slogan-"el latido del corazón hispano de Estados Unidos"-is a first for the company.

To me, it seems the purple/red have a very different graphic treatment then the flat appearing green/blue. I guess we will all see how this incorporates on-air.

I think the logo is supposed to be 3D-ish, with the shiny purple and red being "inside".

NewscastStudio says the logo's supposed to look like a flower, something it's always apparently looked like.

So tell me please, how the hell does it look anything like a flower?

And yeah I agree that the second half of the logo is just plain BAD!

Well, I can see how it has a general shape of a tulip (think closed or partially opened), though the green field to force it into a 'U' shape always intruded on it. But the attempt to make it 3D here doesn't work. It looks like a very poor optial illusion where you try to confuse the eye over what is supposed to be the exterior and what is supposed to be the interior. But in this case, it looks like it was entirely accidental.

Flower? Newscaststudio?

No. Read the B&C article:

"The new 'heart' logo joins the quadrants that were previously separated, representing unity, collaboration and the merging of cultures in the U.S., not to mention Univision's integration across its platforms," said Ruth Gaviria, senior VP of corporate marketing at Univision Communications. "It is also three dimensional, representing the magnitude of the Univision brand and the U.S. Latino community, as well as the 360-degree approach we embrace as a company."

Univision posted a clip on it's corporate website, where the logo has already been implemented everywhere.

I found it horrendous, until I saw it in action on the video. Still it's going to be hard to implement physically on buildings and in black and white stationery..

So what does this mean for the planned ABC/Univision channel, will it have a new logo also?

A source is telling TVNewser that still working on a name for the channel. The current frontrunners being "Accent," "VZTA" (a play on Vista), "UNA," and "V&A."

Of those proposed names for the channel, the only one that sounds good is "Accent".

As far as the rebranding goes, I'm assuming that this means Univision won't be carrying the same style of network IDs featuring talent from various Univision programs that they've run between shows for about 15 years, I always liked those.

Kind of a ripoff of the new Telemundo logo... don't you think? I'm speaking in terms of concept.

Maybe, but I think it is more of everyone jumping on the same trend of three-dimensionalizing their logos with glass effects and reflections and all of that. Look at ABC's and NBC's logo

Didn't NBC start it with the 2011-2012 season? Or do we want to pull a technicality here and say that ABC was the one who really started it back in, what was it, 2007 or so when they came out with the (now old) glossy logo?

The new "Tulip" logo was implemented this morning, just in time for the Rose Parade. TeleFutura will become UniMás on Monday.

Univision still used the old logo for the New Year's Eve coverage yesterday.

Because it's related to this topic: Some UniMás launch clips:

The new network ID, they're stretching out the Univision brand out more with a distinct signature (finally)
