Update - During past week' date=' Pittsburgh's KDKA edited close to be more to the point - now does not have false ending before signature end. One can notice where edit is since it does not flow naturally.[/font']

Can someone please post a video of this? By the way, I think KDKA has used the GFX and music in one of the best ways of all CBS O&O's.

I call KCNC at the 1st of the year!

Well, your prediction was somewhat accurate. Seems that they're using some of the new O&O graphics, but most everything is still the old graphics, and no new music yet either.

Same is true for KPIX:

If you are referring to the U3s', I've seen those since October! So in truth, my prediction is dead in the water... *sigh*

Edit: I can confirm that the new graphics on KCNC will launch on January 27th.

I just caught the end of KPIX's live broadcast on their website. Half of the look is the new stuff and the other half is the old stuff. They closed the newscast with the old music, and they showed a picture with the old "floating eye" background.....

Another person posted an Enforcer close with 30 seconds of it, but the end was cut off. I think KDKA does many long closes, so maybe you can record it with good audio quality tonight?

re: KDKA and closes

During mid 90s, both KDKA and WTAE had long closes at end of every Friday 6 pm evening news. KD's was over minute and a half during Hometown Advantage branding, according to NMSA - using Jon Gorr's Signature and Soundbyte's original KD Prime version - and TAE's was over a minute long using Gari's Image News.

Since then, for the longest time, KD goes right up to the last few seconds with content and only five to ten seconds to close. Extended credit closes have been very rare in the Pittsburgh market during the last twenty-five years.

Surprised no one has posted these as well as KD, IIC/PXI, and TAE closes from the 70s, 80s, and early 90s.

Great timing! I'll be in Denver for the Super Bowl, and I'm finally sorting out how to record stuff here, so hopefully I'll be able to get some of both KCNC and KPIX in the next few weeks.

BTW, don't catch the 10 pm open. It's cold.

Ah, I had a feeling it might be. Everything but the morning and sometimes noon newscasts have been cold opens for over a year now. It looked like there's a proper open to the 6pm though, right? At least I caught some of it on the website.

I've never been a big fan of the ultra cold opens. It seems like KCNC are just doing it to copy KMGH, who have been doing cold opens for several years, and even KUSA have recently cut down their opens quite a bit.

The news here lacks any originality and any brand cohesion. KUSA is resting on their good-will laurels in the community to remain #1 and have consequently become slackers and KCNC can't get their shit together. One of my instructors at a Denver college is the former Sales Director at KCNC and he wholly agrees with me.

They probably did it back then because KDKA Prime was made specially for them. It's was bold, jazzy, and very unique. But, now that they're conforming to "the Mandate" (somewhat), it doesn't matter now. However, I quite like this new music, and I think it should be played loud, long, and proud at the end of each newscast.
