alex979 119
Bob and Jackie are doing Instant Replay right now, due to technical difficulties with Dan Roan at the UC. This oughta be good. Spring Rubber 700
No pics? Oh well, I'll have to wait until the morning news to see it. Side note: Isn't either this month or next month the 10 year anniversary of their current set? My goodness, it's old. ChiCubsFan 34
I always thought it launched in '04, so I wouldn't know what month in '05. I think the graphics launched in 2004. Spring Rubber 700
I could've sworn it was January 2005. I thought they tore down the old set right after the holidays and launched the new set in late January 2005. ChiCubsFan 34
Forget my comment. They had the new set with the old graphics. I just know that they were close to each other. Spring Rubber 700
They got the graphics in 2003. That was the year that they got the new WGN logo, abandoning the old logo with the "9" and the "G" combined. alex979 119
The fact that they have had to use the same set for 10+ years is baffling to me. They're the flagship of the Tribune stations, and their ratings are pretty good. Chicago News Boy 34
Yeah, I don't understand that either. They update their graphics all the time but do nothing to the set. It's been decent however I feel like last year and this year it's starting to look more and more dated Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14011-random-wgn-thread/page/4/#findComment-121403 Share on other sites
24994J 5552
The funny thing is WGN wouldn't even have to do much to stretch this current set another few years, instead of making a bunch of quick repairs when the sky keeps falling. Just look at what channel 7 did; they switched out the backdrops, fixed up the lighting, and gave themselves a bit of an extension so their set can hit the decade mark without looking like it's in shambles. alex979 119
Yeah, and you have to wonder why they haven't done any little updates like that. Are they really that cheap, or are they just saving up for a big redesign? Chicago News Boy 34
I definetely think they're cheap. When they do lives hits outside the studio in the hallway you can see scuff marks all over the walls and the announcer desk on the am news is a joke. Also, the tvs, studio laptops, monitors etc. We're all just updated not that long ago due to ten years of use. That's a long time for crucial equipment to be used in a business setting. Business technology that's important and consistently utilized is typically updated like once every three years or so. Even the mic flags are all worn out. Sean lewis made a joke a year or two ago about how they just updated the ancient phone system there. Idk this is just all my opinion but I could be wrong. I kind of like 9's set... It's a bit dated but it has aged rather well. alex979 119
So when either Sarah or Erin are absent, the other one has to do both the evening and the morning newscasts. That's kind of ridiculous. They need to get a freelance traffic reporter for fill-in when needed. Spring Rubber 700
Why even have an evening traffic reporter when Sarah is off? Might as well eliminate the segment instead. Heck, even when Sarah is there, they don't always have her do a traffic report; sometimes she does a feature report or something else instead, so it's not like they do traffic reporting every single night. Chicago News Boy 34
And it's hardly ever from SkyCam like the opening says: "and Sarah Jindra from SkyCam 9." Shes almost always at the green screen. Personally, I think evening traffic person is a waste of money. Everyone who needs the traffic report is pretty much driving home or at work so it's pointless unless you have a tv at work or in your car. I'd use the $ towards a new set.
