caliwxdude 254
NBC released its first promo video for their upcoming coverage of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games today, giving a hint of the graphic look that we'll be seeing two summers from now. Similar to the look of ESPN's coverage of the World Cup from Brazil last year, the Rio 2016 logo reveals that the broadcast will have a definite Brazilian flair. The Rio logo is also a significant departure from the NBC Olympics logos from the past few Games, which all shared a shield motif. I'm guessing this Brazilian-inspired look will spread to the overall design for coverage not using the standard IOC look and feel. Watch the promo here. Action Newsroom 1288
Looks really nice, but I'm not too fond on the "Rio" font. I'll get used to it. sfomspphl 491
Nice colors but too flat for my taste. Big events call for 3D. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14195-nbc-previews-rio-2016-look/#findComment-123211 Share on other sites
caliwxdude 254
Nice colors but too flat for my taste. Big events call for 3D. Welcome to 2015. 3D is out, flat design is in. ns8401 945
Welcome to 2015. 3D is out, flat design is in. Flat seems to be much cleaner and more seamless than 3D. It's also not as in your face. That Rio picture at the top is pretty attractive IMO. ToriElectra 292
The logo kinda reminds me of the former logo for BET spinoff channel Centric; they changed it earlier this year. djlynch 56
Looks really nice, but I'm not too fond on the "Rio" font. I'll get used to it. As long as it only appears in the word "Rio", I'm fine with it, but it's going to be unreadable if it's any smaller. sfomspphl 491
Welcome to 2015. 3D is out, flat design is in. Flat design makes sense on the smaller screens where people are actually interacting with elements. On big TVs or theatrical, where you're creating an intro billboard you need depth to maximize the impact. When you think of the great sports intros over the decades, it's the ones that mastered depth that stand out. 24994J 5589
Looking at past logos used for the games by NBC, 2016's model (barring any changes) will be the first time since Atlanta '96 that the 'NBC' wordmark is not present. NEOMatrix 1302
I'm guessing that Comcast wants to "brand extend" the Peacock logo so maybe that's there is no "NBC" wordmark, not unlike ESPN brand extending to even ABC. caliwxdude 254
And now the NBC Rio 2016 look gets the UnderConsideration Brand New analysis treatment.
