mvcg66b3r 100 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Changes are coming soon to the lineups of WICU-TV and WSEE-TV. Erie's NBC and CBS affiliates, both owned by Lilly Broadcasting, will no longer broadcast separate newscasts on weekday mornings and evenings. The move, which will begin Oct. 12, means WICU and WSEE will air an identical newscast at 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. They'll do the same for their weekday 11 p.m. newscasts. WSEE and WICU also will merge their morning weekday newscasts into one program, with one set of anchors. http://www.goerie.com/changes-come-to-erie-tv-news-lineups It they can merge the newscasts, they might as well merge the stations. Let's see if Lilly can pull off what other broadcasters have done/are doing in smaller markets: WICU: 12.1 NBC (1080i HD), 12.2 CBS (720p HD) WSEE: 35.1 CW (1080i HD), possible call sign change to WBEP --OR-- WSEE: 35.1 CBS (1080i HD), 35.2 NBC (720p HD) WICU: 12.1 CW (1080i HD), possible call sign change to WBEP

For example WICU has 12.1 NBC, 12.2 CBS and 12.3 CW, and WSEE has 35.1 CBS, 35.2 NBC and 35.3 CW?
NEOMatrix 1307 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Since the new morning newscast will be called "Erie News Now Surrise", I'm assuming that the whole operation will be called "Erie News Now". In hindsight, I kind of saw this coming.
TheRolyPoly 2592 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Nobody mentioned it here but... "Erie News NOW Sunrise" is expanding to weekends starting Saturday October 17th, 2015. The hour-long broadcast will air from 8:00-9:00 a.m. and will be anchored by ex-WBRE 28 anchor Eva Mastromatteo.

Rusty Muck 4405 Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 For what it's worth... Call Sign WBEP is not available. WBEP is assigned to The U. S. Coast Guard. Vessel Information: WBEP reserved for coast guard per Rebecca Little's request. Vessel: Silent World Doc. #: 1060298
Rusty Muck 4405 Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I'm assuming that the 10pm news on "WBEP" (which was rebroadcast on WSEE at 11pm weeknights) is going away?
Brain 81 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Even WJET was far behind the times, at least a while ago, then they caught up a little bit. I wonder why. I know it's the Erie market, but why couldn't they have done a little better at the time?
effseesee 101 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 For what it's worth... That's no big deal. All you have to do is send a letter to the Coast Guard, and they will release the call sign.
