Telemundo O&Os launching 5pm News.

B&C posted this afternoon that 14 Telemundo O&Os will extend its early evening broadcast a half hour earlier, beginning September 26.

The article stated that this comes after the stations launched its 5:30pm broadcast less than two years ago. It plans to hire 30 new newsroom personnel to support the news expansion.

Does this presumably mean that 4pm newscasts will launch on stations currently airing at 4:30 (like Chicago, and probably others)?

EDIT: Question answered. Yes, but it doesn't say that it will be at 4. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/telemundo-stations-announce-5-p-m-newscast/173028

I still wonder why WKAQ hasn't restarted their morning news.

The last time it failed, because people didn't flip from the long-established morning shows on WLII and WAPA, but WLII's news division is long dead and WAPA has no competition.

The PR market is in such an economic morass that they might not see value in it.

As to the rest of the additions, I'm not sure how the 4pm news will go over. Honestly I would have liked to see a 6pm newscast in the MT/CT time zones.

From the source:

MIRAMAR, FL – June 21, 2016 – The Telemundo Station Group today announced an expansion of its local news programming, unveiling plans to launch a new 30-minute newscast that will air weekdays at 5:00 PM ET / 4:00 PM CT beginning Monday, September 26 at 14 of its local owned stations.

But remember, there's no Syndication business in the Spanish language.

Channel 2 will just continue competing at 12/5/10pm on weekdays and 5/10pm on weekends. The old morning newscasts were cancelled when NBC 2.0 (Thanks Jeff Zucker) hit in '08. I can't forsee a morning newscast until the economy turns ship, if ever.

Unlike with the English language networks, prime time programming on the Spanish language networks (Telemundo, Univision and the like) has always started at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT, 6:00 CT/MT. Even though Telemundo might have a little more leeway, given that Caso Cerrado: Edicion Especial occupies the 7:00/6:00 hour instead of telenovelas (like what Univision and Azteca choose to put in the slot), I don't think an early evening newscast following Noticiero Telemundo in the Central and Mountain zones is gonna happen for that particular reason. I'm not sure if the Telemundo O&Os would even be able to add midday newscasts, since the network carries telenovelas during the 11:00-1:00 ET/PT slot (even though a few currently air local newsmagazines within that time period).

No way they ditch the 7pm edition of Caso Cerrado. That brings in good ratings, and a good lead in to their primetime shows. A midday newscast might be possible seeing as those telenovelas ( if you can call them that) are foreign dramas dubbed in spanish-- they're just placeholders until Suelta la Sopa comes on. They could easily ditch those...

Most air mid-morning shows at 10:00am. I say shows because some may be newscasts while others are entertainment shows like my Telemundo O&O station WSCV 51 which airs lifestyle entertainment show "Acceso Total" during that timeslot and its right on after "Un Nuevo Dia" (A New Day)
