NEOMatrix 1307 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 It is a month old but WHEC in Rochester, NY is getting a new set. Hopefully, this means that News10 NBC is going HD finally.
jbnews 345 Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 They are not HD? In 2016? Come on! In Erie, WICU/WSEE went HD in November 2012 and WJET/WFXP went HD in October 2013, and Erie is much smaller than Rochester. When will it debut?
scrabbleship 429 Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 "Renovation" I wonder if it will be more akin to what Hubbard did at WNYT which was to upgrade parts of the set and HD-enable the rest of the existent set .
MidwestTV 1246 Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Had they already dismantled part of the set in the foreground when the time lapse started? Because if not, that seems like a huge waste of space that could've been utilized in the old studio.
NEOMatrix 1307 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 I honestly have low expectations for this set. If KSTP couldn't get a decent set, then I shudder to think what's coming to WHEC. Like I said, I hope WHEC (finally!) goes HD because it's sad when everyone else in Hubbard is in HD and you're stuck in 16:9 SD.

MidwestTV 1246 Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Regardless, we're halfway through 2016 and a station still isn't in HD? Shame.
tyrannical bastard 4036 Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I"m surprised they FINALLY went widescreen. After 2012, any of the stragglers "quietly" made upgrades, almost like they were too embarrassed to wait so long.
atlnews2 596 Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Regardless, we're halfway through 2016 and a station still isn't in HD? Shame. I amazes me that Hearst has several stations that still aren't in HD
news89 468 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Here is video of the new set not bad at all. http://www.whec.com/news/new-media-center-news10nbc/4190423/?cat=565
TheRolyPoly 2592 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 It looks like its in HD now but I can't tell for sure.
rkolsen 1686 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I imagine they upgraded their infrastructure to HD. The cameras look new and the onset monitors look crisp and clear. It looks like they went with the Scripps esque look and it appears to be much more open / less cramped. Overall it's looks like a great upgrade. Some of the stations that are still stragglers to go HD you can see the graphics on the monitors look like crap especially when scaled to a video wall - like at WDSU. You likely can't see it on TV if it's still SD but from talents social media posts it is very visible.
MidwestTV 1246 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Wait, she said it was the first time in 22 years that they've had a new set, or media center as they call it. How? There's no way that now old studio was 22 years old.
bhratbrat 437 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Regardless, we're halfway through 2016 and a station still isn't in HD? Shame. Well you know, in Glendive that would be a huge milestone

MichiganNewsGraphicsJunkie 949 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Not a bad setup... Looks HD to me.. Everything is so crisp..
13WHAMfan 5 Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I can verify the station is still NOT broadcasting local news in HD. I'm told the studio cameras were upgraded as were most of the studio components which could support a future switch, but it isn't broadcast in HD right now. Some of the other remaining outdated equipment (like the video switcher still being used that is decades old) has to be upgraded first.
