Mike Landess joining KWGN

Well here's a strange one.

Mike Landess is joining KWGN to anchor the 7pm and new 4pm newscasts alongside Deborah Takahara. He spent several decades mostly in the Denver market and 'retired' from KMGH two years ago, only to show up as the lead anchor at KYTX in Tyler Texas a few weeks later.

Out and About already has you covered on that.

I'm fine with all the "ZOMG! Anchor changes in Tupelo/Utica/Medford" posts being buried in a big thread that I don't care to read, but I don't understand why fairly significant movements in top 25 markets also get buried there. To me, a veteran anchor making an oddball jump to a fifth-place station in the big market where he made his career is worthy of its own thread. But I guess that's up for interpretation...

I'll stick this in here since I don't feel like starting a new thread, and this may have been mentioned elsewhere, but I missed it.

KWGN starting 11pm news on Sept. 12:

Interesting that they're trying to target it to transplants. There's a clip on YouTube of KOA having 11pm news in the late 70s, but I don't know whether that was just a weekend thing. Either way, this is probably the first time for this market and this time zone in a really long time.

In my opinion, this is absurd. KDVR/KWGN will now produce 77 hours of news a week. That has to be one of the most in the country, right? It's just maddening because all their newscasts are full of wire stories. Just browse through NewSource or NewsEdge for a little bit, and you will have seen 90% of what's in their newscasts.

It has its pluses and minuses. Having primetime start later makes early evening/prime access flow a little better in my opinion. I'd be willing to bet that if primetime started at 8 in Denver, KDVR would have 6pm news and run Jeopardy and Wheel at 7, which just feels a little more natural to me. However, I still prefer 10pm news to 11pm news, and I used to hate having to wait until 12:35 for Craig Ferguson to come on. And of course, I'm speaking as someone born and raised in Denver, but I've lived mostly in Pacific Time for several years, so my perspective may be a little off.
