CSN (Chicago) Cuts Programming/Employees

In a move that is likely to spread to NBC's other regional sports networks, Comcast SportsNet Chicago laid off about a dozen behind the scenes employees this week. Though no on-air talent has received a pink slip, there will be significant programming changes in the coming weeks. The most notable shift will be the likely cancellation of the nightly 'SportsNet Central', in favor of shorter, more entertaining, social media-friendly content...whatever that might be. This really shouldn't be a surprise when you consider the continued loss of cable subscribers, a trend that's been heavily publicized for the ESPN family and other cable networks. Really, it was only a matter of time.

A few weeks back, CSN Mid-Atlantic cut their Orioles beat reporter with no plans to replace him, although the guy who covers the Nats is still with them.

I wonder if they'll cut the individual Baltimore and Washington feeds or cut CSN +.

The bloodletting spreads to CSN New England, which has cut veterans Bob Neumeier and Scott McAdam and will replace much of its daily programming with infomercials by March as Comcast shifts resources to NBC Boston.
