TennTV1983 804
WKRN in Nashville will be getting a brand new set in the coming weeks. It was announced today during all of their newscasts, which are currently being done in the newsroom. Knowing how Nexstar works, the new set will probably be an in-house job done by local contractors (though I'll be surprised if they use an actual set builder like was the case with KLAS). ProduceGuy 31
They still haven't changed the newsroom (except the logo) since moving to the set in 2011.https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=id=1562123303819219;type=video Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/15775-wkrn-new-set/#findComment-177779 Share on other sites
DesertNewsGeek 47
Let's hope Nexstar knows that WTVF is using a set design similar to KLAS and doesn't repeat it at WKRN. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/15775-wkrn-new-set/#findComment-177884 Share on other sites

TennTV1983 804
An update on WKRN's new set courtesy of Neil Orne's Facebook page, and surprise, it's a clone of WLEX's new digs. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1862292813784798 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/15775-wkrn-new-set/#findComment-182946 Share on other sites
LexTVandRadio 418
Oh wow. Yeah it's just like WLEX's. WLEX doesn't have a big studio (build in 99) but this one looks even tighter at WKRN. TennTV1983 804
The new set has gone live as of last night. http://wkrn.com/2017/10/07/introducing-news-2s-new-home/ EDIT: Tour of the set courtesy of Jared Plushnick: Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/15775-wkrn-new-set/#findComment-185933 Share on other sites
MidwestTV 1232
I like that they actually plan to use their LED curtains to change colors. Also is there a recent trend in trying to build "rooms" within the studio? Specifically with weather. Seems like the trend is to start closing off weather centers behind glass walls. MichiganNewsGraphicsJunkie 915
WOOD-TV did this over a decade ago... When they did some remodeling of their studio area, they opened the wall between their off camera weather office and the main news studio, bumped into some non-used offices and labeled it the 24-hour Tracking Center... Whenever they weren't needed or didn't go to the Tracking Center for camera shots, they have a removable accordion wall that blends in with their set to block off the Tracking Center.. I like the concept Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/15775-wkrn-new-set/#findComment-185951 Share on other sites
CircleSeven 1955
They couldn't get that "desk" because that competiting station has it. So they went with a "similar" alternative. rkolsen 1684
I think the weather offices took hold so that the meteorologists have the tools nearby without necessarily making their presentation area a dedicated weather center. So the area where the meteorologist would typically be decked out with computers galore could be used as an alternative presentation space. (I’m wasn’t quite sure how to write out my thoughts so hopefully you understand.) Also with all these more minimalist sets we see it reduces the clutter. LexTVandRadio 418
I like it... I thought at first it would be a smaller version of WLEX's but it appears to be bigger. Compared to "that desk", the stand-up desk with vertical flat screen is an improvement. The WLEX desk design would've been better.
