LA Today Radio Simulcast on KABC AM-790

KABC 790 has a directional 5K signal before sunrise that mostly goes out to sea. Nobody is going to even hear it. Once they move their transmitter location to the KWKW site, it will be even worse (Cumulus sold the La Cienega land. Studios have already moved). https://radio-locator.com/info/KABC-AM

KABC is one of the lowest rated English language stations in Los Angeles with a 0.6 6+

According to their website they also simulcast the 6pm.

The website leaves a lot to be desired.

I would have to guess that's a straight trade-out situation. It's not like KABC really has a lot to offer as far as exposure goes.

Unlike the former WABC and the former KGO under ABC and Cap Cities...KABC has always been a dog....not even a cute mutt....just a dog.

Please don't rewrite history since you obviously don't know anything about KABC.

790 KABC was at onetime the #1 radio station (or close) in the Los Angeles market...for years. Michael Jackson (not the dead performer) was an institution in Los Angeles. So was EGGBOK, if you know what that is. It was the second radio station in America to adopt an all talk format (1960). Brought Los Angeles and the nation the first female traffic reporters in 1967 and one who later became the first female tv news anchor at an NBC station and one of the top Los Angeles tv newscasters at KNBC (and KCBS). It was at one time the highest billing station in Los Angeles and second highest in the nation (1989). It billed more than KGO or WABC ever did. http://articles.latimes.com/1990-08-19/entertainment/ca-3044_1_talk-radio

KABC's problems are many but its downfall has been a combination of having an inferior signal to the now top talk station in Los Angeles, KFI (50KW vs 5KW), especially as the core KABC listener moved further and further away from the city center (and transmitter in West Los Angeles), owners from ABC to Citadel to Cumulus that didn't have a clue how to make the station 25-54 friendly even firing the top afternoon talk team that crossed the street to KFI who over the years has crushed KABC and its now sad lineup of in-house talent and sometimes infomercials during the weekday broadcast schedule.

Lol

Chill...

Everything gonna be ok..

Rewrite crappy history of KABC???

They had 6 days on top in 1982 because of Ken and Bob.

Big whoop.

But allright...I will admit KABC had a few bright spots up through the 80's, but they hit the wall in the 90's with the whole John and Ken fiasco and the MR.KABC /Mr.KFI wankfest.

Sorry but KABC just doesn't rank up there with others in the former ABC radio chain...they just don't.

Haven't they done this for a year or two already? I remember seeing that once in their schedule and I thought 'how desperate does a station have to be to be relevant to carry an audio simulcast of KNBC's morning show?'.

Also, KABC literally still had a Flash open on their website up until two years ago. I seriously think if it got sold like CBS did KFWB to an ethnic broadcaster it would get better ratings for the 'LA has-beens of radio retirement home' rep it has now under Cumulus.

KABC certainly does rank as one of the top ABC radio stations of all time and not only because of ratings and revenue - and it's supremacy didn't start in the 1980's, it started in the 1960's. It was one of the - or the - top rated stations in Los Angeles for 20 years and still ranked as the top AM outlet for close to 30 years. KABC has been talk since September 1960. WABC didn't become a talk station until May 1982 and floundered in the end as MusicRadio 77 WABC. WABC has never been a premier talk station and certainly isn't now with it's 1.2 6+ and 50KW signal that has never had market penetration problems. It never sat, as a talk station, atop the New York radio ratings, either. KGO was #1 in the San Francisco ratings for a longer time than most AM stations in this country as listeners started moving en masse to FM but that was not only because of format but topography. Same can be said for KFRC as a top 40 music station.

Ray Briem use to command as high as 30 rating in the all night time period in Los Angeles (in any time period, no station in Los Angeles has ever scored as high). Even the year he left, he was still getting a 15.7. http://articles.latimes.com/2012/dec/13/local/la-me-ray-briem-20121214 Certainly 12-5 am was never an important time period for sales but without Ray Briem, California probably wouldn't have Prop 13 today.

Ken & Bob were #1 12+ for a longer period of time than any other Los Angeles morning hosts - including Rick Dees & Ryan Seacrest - and never fell below #3.

This was the point KABC went in the wrong direction but that still wouldn't matter today since their biggest problem is their signal just doesn't cover the market anymore...and it's only going to get worse (same can be said for former CBS all news outlet KFWB) http://articles.latimes.com/1993-01-09/entertainment/ca-933_1_talk-radio

So, again, you really don't know much about Los Angeles radio.

Actually I knew all of that...and more.

I was just checking to see if YOU did. (winky wink)

Have a cookie...but those articles just proved my point...

KABC (790am) still sucks.

They got their asses kicked according to history...and the LA Times.
