NEOMatrix 1295
Another veteran broadcaster is also hanging up the mic, and this is the third one this week. Youngstown anchor Bob Black (WFMJ) is calling it a career and will anchor his final newscast at 6 & 11PM on November 30th. http://www.ftvlive.com/todays-news/2015/11/11/signing-off-in-youngstown Any bets that Glenn Stevens gets the anchor chair back at WFMJ? Although, they will probably have Leslie Barrett solo anchor until they either find a new (fe)male anchor. But, congrats to Bob Black for 35 years of journalism to Youngstown. Eat News 4738
The Retirement Holiday Rush. Welcome to the after sweeps party! But in all seriousness, well done to him. I hope he gets to enjoy his retirement very well. This means he will spend the rest of his life cursing at the tv news and drunk dialing the assignment desk, and other stations assignment desk. Retirement gets easier after you destroy those first few tv's in a drunken and pill fueled rage. Welcome to the real 'otherside'.
tyrannical bastard 3471
WFMJ getting Bob Black was a major coup after WKBN was sold to out-of-town owners and the new management parting ways with him. He was a large part of WFMJs success over the last 18 years.
TexasTVNews 1366
First Mark Koebrich (KUSA), then Denise White (WTVT), Bob Black (WFMJ) and now it's Rich Newberg's turn. Mark Koebrich said he's still going to fill-in as an anchor occasionally. Of course, those "still going to come back to do special reports" rarely, if ever, last long at all. Larry King said he'd be back on CNN when he left...

Samantha 2878
It's the end of a news department as KMCC Las Vegas cuts its local news. The MundoMax affiliate had launched local news in April of last year. An email obtained by Media Moves says the decision was made due to "business conditions". It had been struggling to compete, but what foothold it was gaining in the market was wiped out by the name change, cancellation of national news and unpopular programming. Some 20 jobs have been axed.

The problem here was I think also about MundoMax. The brand switch, perhaps the worst executed in recent television history, hurt their brand considerably and apparently really lowered their ratings. In addition they lost the reinforcement of a national news service as MundoFox had until RCN took full control.

One week back and another week gone again. But we all know Cox likes promoting within. More the "experience doing stories" angle than the "experience within the town" angle. (For better examples, see Jacksonville.) I know Cox is trying their damndest to mold 25 in their own image, but as mentioned numerous times, what works in one market may not exactly work in another. On a related note, maybe they can stop with those IDs they've been airing since before she was on maternity leave. That aside, best wishes to her (and meterologist/husband Jason Brewer, who's leaving WESH).
