trev57 46
Just read on the Twitters that WISN's Luke Sampe will be taking the chief meteorologist job at WFRV. Not sure when he'll be starting. He's not entirely a stranger to the Green Bay market; his bio mentions an intern stint at WGBA. Surprising move there. He still comes across as very green on TV, although he has come a long way since starting at WISN. compubit 673
... If they want to unload any more, they could sell off Bluetooth NBC & KCWY to Bonten, since they own most of the NBC cluster in Montana. I think it's Beartooth NBC - thought I'd be interested to see what a "Bluetooth NBC" looks like... TexasTVNews 1377
Well, you can add a 3rd 4pm in the D/FW market. At WFAA ABC 8, There are plans to supplant Katie Coric with a 4:00 Newscast to go head to head with NBC 5 First at Four and CBS 11 News at 4. WFAA is hiring staffers for its first-ever 4pm newscast More details from Ed Bark (unclebarky.com). http://www.unclebarky.com/dfw_files/678fbfe0f49afceec64621d1867b08a3-2811.html Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16860-out-about/page/15/#findComment-84017 Share on other sites

CircleSeven 1955
I think it's Beartooth NBC - thought I'd be interested to see what a "Bluetooth NBC" looks like... Awww man! I thought about that logo with map of the Montana in dark blue, and the first thing that came to mind was Bluetooth. I wasn't thinking about that thing you put in your ear, however. What happens to Katie? I assume the program would still air on WFAA, possibly after Nightline. Many stations execs across the country are having their doubts about the show, with some are saying that the show isn't living up to the ratings expectations. Some are even doubting that this show would even last after season two. Steve Harvey, Ellen DeGeneres, Dr. Oz have all been inked with multi-year deals, and Katie is the only one that hasn't signed on to a multi-year deal. And even worst many of the show's forerunners have all left, all in the first season. The new co-EP Rachel Miscowiec promises to change up the show for Season Two. But I don't think it would change the minds of some station execs. I guess WFAA is the wise one by not waiting it out. Good for Belo8. Jterry 43
Starting this morning, WMC Memphis is launching a 7 AM newscast on its 5.2 Bounce TV subchannel. It will essentially be a one-hour extension of its morning show with "extra emphasis on traffic and weather". WREG previously had a 7 AM newscast on it's 3.2 subchannel but ended it some time ago. Wonder if they may start it up again with this move. WHBQ and WATN (through WLMT) also have 7 AM news hours in the Memphis market. I wonder if sister station WBTV in Charlotte would be interested in doing this on 3.2 at 7 am and 10 pm when the news share agreement with WJZY/WMYT expires? It would face tough competition though from the WSOC newscasts on WAXN and also the WCCB and WJZY newscasts. LoadStar 364
Lot of moves going on in Milwaukee: - Morning anchor Shawn Patrick has left FOX affiliate WITI. It appears that his contract was simply not renewed by the station. - Meteorologist Luke Sampe will leave ABC affiliate WISN at the end of July to become the chief meteorologist for WFRV, Green Bay's CBS affiliate. - Anchor/Reporter Shelby Croft will leave WISN in August and join Columbus, Ohio's CBS affiliate WBNS. A3N 1002
Some interesting things going on in San Diego... * Virginia Cha has been moved to anchor the morning/11am newscasts at KGTV 10 (ABC), she previously anchored the 5:30/6pm newscasts. Cha replaces Kaushal Patel, who has left the station. * KNSD 7 (NBC) has dropped the "San Diego" part of their branding, going by just "NBC 7 News" * KNSD 7 (NBC) has also changed their morning newscast title from "News in the Morning" to "NBC 7 News TODAY" * KFMB 8 (CBS) morning weathercaster Vanessa Bezic has been missing in action for more than a month now. The station is being tight lipped on her whereabouts and her bio is still on their website. In an interesting move, former morning meteorologist Natasha Stenbock is back with KFMB filling in on the morning show (She used to do weather in the morning from 2005-2009). *Former KUSI anchor Dan Plante, who most recently at KTVX in Salt Lake City (after being bounced from KUSI) is back in San Diego, doing some fill in work at the desk during KSWB (FOX) News at 10pm. MidwestTV 1229
KAKE-TV, the ABC affiliate down in Wichita, Kansas, is taking heat after apparently firing one of their reporters for making a mistake/using the wrong wording on one of his reports. Jterry 43
A follow up on the Gil Tyree hire by WATN/WLMT in Memphis. His first day on the job at the Twin Stations will be July 1st, according to this article posted today. http://www.accessatlanta.com/weblogs/radio-tv-talk/2013/jun/20/gpbs-gil-tyree-leaves-memphis/ Another follow up on the Gil Tyree situation. His first day was today as advertised, but Joyce Peterson revealed they will be doing an atypical anchor lineup. Gil Tyree will anchor Wed - Sun. Andy Burrell will anchor Mondays and Tuesdays, then report Fri - Sun. Essentially they want to emphasize sports for the weekend since that's when many major events happen anyway. Doc Holliday will apparently go back to news reporting though I imagine will be the primary fill-in for either one. Also as revealed last month, the new sports department is expected to begin producing special programming in the future as well. Speculating but maybe a Sunday night show will be in the works. Doc Holliday will apparently go back to news reporting though I imagine will be the primary fill-in for either one. It is an atypical setup, and something WTVF in Nashville did as well to some extent following the retirement of Hope Hines. Not sure if they still do that type of arrangement. Also, according to a press release on the LocalMemphis page (http://www.localmemphis.com/content/newstation/story/TV-Stations-Welcome-New-Talent-to-Local-Sports/qg0WzyQ-2USvw_3vH0JKsA.cspx), Doc will have a dual role as both a general assignment and sports reporter for the stations, which is also not unusual as WHBQ did that with Marcus Hunter and Kristin Tallent in the past. Also as revealed last month, the new sports department is expected to begin producing special programming in the future as well. Speculating but maybe a Sunday night show will be in the works. That should be interesting considering the fact that WREG no longer does a sports show on Sundays (they used to have one that was hosted by George Lapides, who does a morning sports show on WHBQ-AM), WMC dropped their show to do an hour-long newscast on Sunday nights, and both stations do abbreviated 10pm newscasts on Friday nights (dedicating the rest of the half hour to an extended sports segment).
