Resurrecting this topic after a year to report that WKYC seems to be going with a more “traditional” (and very blue) open for its 6pm newscast.  (The name remains…as does the circle 3 and in-newscast graphics.) Are bigger changes coming?

Compared to the other opens WKYC uses, this looks much better. It still keeps the Tegna look, but modifies it into something a bit more “classy”.

Yeah I noticed this the last time I went to Cleveland a little over a month ago, and besides the logo, the opens for the 6, 7 and 11pm newscasts look pretty good. The stingers also use this, and they look good too.

The new "3" look doesn't seem to hurting viewers who read Scene magazine.  Its readers voted the station as "Best Newscast" with some of the people there getting some honors.  Betsy Kling, Russ Mitchell and Maureen Kyle all made top five Best Anchor/News Personality (Betsy was #1) and Jim Donovan made top five as one of the best sports anchors/reporters.  Fellow "3" anchor/reporter Mike Polk, Jr. got Best Comedian.

What Matters Most is now the slogan for the entire station.  The rest of the newscasts have their "unique" titles.

When this rebrand took place, What Matters Most was the name of the 6pm newscast. It isn't now.

WKYC had changed their graphics for the newscasts.  The weather on the left is gone.

And they’ve further modified the graphics, moving the logo, time, and temperature to the right side of the screen in a much more compact size.

It actually looks really good. They just need to get rid of that stupid logo, even though they won't lol.

much better. less clutter works.

As Chuckie Finster once said: "A clean room is a happy room." In this case a clean chyron is a happy chyron. At least we the graphics are improving.
