CircleSeven 1962 Posted May 5, 2021 Author Posted May 5, 2021 Two new R&Os, effectively approving these channel switches. KFVS (11 > 32) WRDW (12 > 27) So earlier, I would say the station would have 30 days to file the application (with the new allotment) to get the construction permit. What I want to clarify is that the station has to file the new app within 30 days after the order gets posted in the Federal Register. It usually take about a month to get posted there. So for example, KRIS received its R&O on 4/5, and the order was posted in the Register on 4/23. So they'll have until 5/23 to file the app. 1

tyrannical bastard 4055 Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 It looks like a lot of Gray stations are moving off of VHF this go-around. Hopefully whenever the merger with Meredith closes, they will be able to do something with their stations stuck on VHF, including WSMV, KVVU, KPTV and WALA. WALA especially, since it is on channel 9, and so is the adjacent FOX station in Panama City (that Raycom used to own), so the viewers in the Destin-Fort Walton Beach area are stuck in the middle between the fringes of 2 FOX affiliates on the same frequency. Mobile-Pensacola may be maxed out frequency-wise unless they can force one of the low-powered stations to move.
CubsFan79 58 Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 KGBT TV sold to Mission Broadcasting. Will KGBT return to CBS TV since the FCC approved the sale on 5- 12. 1

Because low power & translator stations don't get protection for their allotments (Class A Low Powers do, however). For instance, WYES has petitioned to move to RF 28. That means that LP that's now occupied in that allotment (Daystar's KNLD-LD) has to be displaced & have to find a new channel of their own. tyrannical bastard 4055 Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 That basically leaves 19, 26, 28 and 36 as the only semi-viable UHF stations ieft in the area, because they are all LD stations. 19, 26 (28 if it's approved) are all New Orleans stations, (WDSU, WGNO, and the possible future home of WYES). It's a problem in the western fringes because 15 is both WPMI and WNOL, and atmospheric conditions can cancel out WPMI. There was once a time when WFNA was on 27 (as 1.0), and WWL overpowered it after the repack! 36 is also the blowtorch that is WTVY, blasting out full power from Holmes County, FL and reaches just east of Pensacola. Thinking from a full-market perspective, if WALA was to pick either 19, 26, or 28, they could make it work from Baldwin County. 36 is too risky with the overlap into the eastern fringes. 26 and 28 are HC2 garbage and 19 is an HSN station. 36 is WGOX-LD, a church that hasn't quite figured out how to broadcast a usable signal, despite after years of trying....

CircleSeven 1962 Posted May 19, 2021 Author Posted May 19, 2021 A small M&A. One Alaska station is taking one of KTVA's former repeaters. Ketchikan Media, LLC (owners of Anchorage's KDMD) is acquiring KTNL Sitka for $37,500.

Samantha 2905 Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 (edited) KHLM-LD Houston's going to the Christian Television Network for $1.1 million. Edited June 5, 2021 by Samantha
CircleSeven 1962 Posted June 9, 2021 Author Posted June 9, 2021 New PRM. It's not a channel change. It's a city of license change. Marquee's WSWG (UHF 31) wants to change its COL from Valdosta, GA to Moultrie, GA (about 38 miles SE of Albany). However, they're not proposing to move it transmitter/antenna closer to Albany.
tyrannical bastard 4055 Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 Moving the COL of WSWG to Moultrie actually assigns it to a city that's in the Albany market. Valdosta is located in the Tallahassee - Thomasville market, the station itself used to be a semi-satellite of Tallahassee's WCTV (licensed to Thomasville) until it was spun off to Marquee in the Gray-Raycom merger.
CircleSeven 1962 Posted June 9, 2021 Author Posted June 9, 2021 Reading one of footnotes in the petition, Gray actually tried to get that COL changed to Moultrie back in 2012. But the FCC never acted on that earlier petition......
tyrannical bastard 4055 Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 Given the area, there's been so much churn with Gray & Raycom, at least now the dust has settled. With Gray dumping their flagship WALB to Liberty, to Raycom, displacing WFXL to Barrington....and back again to Gray displacing WSWG to Marquee. Tallahassee too, since WCTV's sale to Gray forced the sale of WALB under the old contour rule, and later Raycom's WTXL being sold to Scripps because of the GrayCom merger... 1

I thought Valdosta was Jax. Unless I'm thinking of Waycross. Both share a PBS signal, so.
