NWA_TV_guy 157 Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 Hearst’s WAPT in Jackson, MS is broadcasting from the newsroom. They were slated for a new set this time last year, but better late than never, right? The main frame of the set dates back to 1999 with many updates through the years. Sounds like the new set will debut in ~2 months.

tyrannical bastard 4084 Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 Is WAPT still firmly in 2nd place ahead of WJTV?

Not sure if they rank #1 now in any time slot. WLBT has been very strategic with moving talent around and keeping good talent. Hearst and Nexstar move people around too often in that market.
tyrannical bastard 4084 Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 I have to wonder if WJTV watering down their newscasts to serve Hattiesburg and WHLT is having any effect. Gray & Raycom having WDAM and WLBT as both dominant stations in their markets basically sets up the situation to begin with. WJTV has had a lot of turnover especially after Nexstar got them. Some of which left for rival stations in the market (with behind the camera personnel). At least Bert Case got a little more screen time on WAPT after he "retired" from WLBT. Set-wise, although WJTV got upgraded several years ago, it's been though the wringer with their messy transition from old to new branding. When they did the governor debates a few years ago, they had to kick out the newscasts for a few days to reconfigure the set for it.... Likely for a lack of studio space to begin with?

JTV’s set seems like it sits in the middle of the studio. There’s walking space all around the exterior of the set. The two market newscast is awful and is even more disgusting during severe weather coverage.
NWA_TV_guy 157 Posted July 13, 2021 Author Posted July 13, 2021 The set has arrived to be installed. https://www.facebook.com/marcushunter16wapt/posts/395760512145388
NWA_TV_guy 157 Posted August 20, 2021 Author Posted August 20, 2021 The new set debuted this evening (Aug. 19).
HearstArgyleFan90 42 Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 Speaking of the 1999 set, I found an article which mentions that it debuted in April of that year. That should explain why the station continued using the 1997 graphics package for the first few months with the then-new set before finally switching over to Hearst-Argyle's mandated graphics package (camera 2.0) and using "Image News". https://www.newspapers.com/clip/6698893/wapt-to-unveil-new-set-today/ Does anyone have a clue as to when WAPT first started using camera 2.0? Was it late 1999 or early 2000?
