Action Newsroom 1313 Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 Per Variety and Deadline, Judy Woodruff has announced to staffers that she will depart the anchor desk of the PBS NewsHour at the end of this year (she will anchor coverage of the midterm elections) and transition to special projects and long-form reporting for WETA. Her successors are (confirmed by two internal sources) expected to be correspondents and fill-in anchors Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett; official word might come this fall.

If Bennett is tapped as her (co-)successor, that would be a pretty quick promotion for him, considering he just became anchor of the recently renamed PBS News Weekend when WETA took over responsibility for producing the Saturday and Sunday editions (from WNET) in early April. Nawaz, OTOH, has been acting as backup weeknight anchor for several years (at least since Gwen Ifill’s passing).

Action Newsroom 1313 Posted December 31, 2022 Author Posted December 31, 2022 Judy Woodruff ended her tenure as anchor and managing editor of the PBS Newshour tonight (Dec. 30). Here is her final broadcast: She will be missed at the anchor desk, but will be looking forward to her special report series America at a Crossroads (as well as Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett beginning their tenure).
