The new CBS Sports set made its debut during College Football Kickoff/Today.

https://506sports.com/ once again breaking down maps for the upcoming season in terms of TV coverage and its freaking amazing. Here are some updates though for Week 1 (I'm only doing week 1 as an example)...

 

Yes, tonight's game in Brazil is only available on Peacock, unless you live in Green Bay (WGBA), Milwaukee (WTMJ), or Philadelphia (WCAU).

 

FOX has the doubleheader this week to kick off the season:

• FOX Early
  • Houston (KRIV) and Panama City (WPGX) switched on Thursday from the Steelers and Falcons to the Panthers and Saints.
  • Providence (WNAC), Springfield, Mass. (WGGB.2); Portland (WPFO), Bangor (WFVX), Scranton (WOLF), El Paso (KFOX), FOX Alaska (KTBY/KATN.2/KJUD.3), and all Montana FOX affiliates switched on Thursday from the Steelers and Falcons to the Vikings and Giants.
  • Des Moines (KDSM) switched on Thursday from the Vikings and Giants to the Titans and Bears.
• FOX Late
  • Tallahassee (WTWC.2) and Baton Rouge (WGMB) switched on Thursday from Cowboys and Brows to Commanders and Buccaneers.

ESPN had some minor graphics changes (different design for the timeout indicator, and an on-field down and distance arrow for the first time in quite a while)

 

In addition, a notable change has happened in some international markets; the NFL seems to be providing unbranded "clean" feeds of more games (particularly nationally-televised games) that use generic graphics (the NFL Network ones but a little off-looking) but still contain most of the video and commentary from the U.S. English broadcast (but with things such as sponsor plugs edited out). Typically this was only done for the Super Bowl in the past (which had its own bespoke world production and different commentators to the main U.S. broadcast). How these are being used by Sky in the UK has been facing some criticism due to the quality of the resulting broadcast (especially given how Comcast owns Sky).

CBS did a few subtle changes this week, namely changing the down and distance arrow font to the condensed font that some graphics use, and bolding the font used for team names.

 

The weird alternate "light mode" version of the scoreboard has also popped up.

Looks like the "light mode" version of the score bug is being used so that the black color of the Raiders doesn't blend in with the normal color of the graphic.

In a move shocking absolutely nobody but the most fervent Pat Sajak stans who refuse to watch Seacrest WoF and wanted to see him on CWoF, ABC will now carry Monday Night Football for the rest of the season.

Netflix named its announcing teams for their Christmas Day games...

 

• Noah Eagle and Nate Burleson will team up once again, this time with J.J. Watt joining them, for Steelers vs. Chiefs in Kansas City.  Kickoff time is scheduled for 1pm ET.
• Noah's dad Ian will call Ravens vs. Texans from Houston, with Greg Olsen as his partner.  Game time from the Space City is at 4:30pm ET.
• Production for both telecasts will be handled by CBS Sports.  Rich Eisen and some yet-to-be-determine studio analysts on loan from NFL Network will handle the studio show coverage.
• Because these are streaming-based broadcasts, Steelers-Chiefs and Ravens-Texans will also be seen on over-the-air TV in each team's home DMA.  KCTV in Kansas City confirmed that they're airing the Steelers-Chiefs game in its region, and more than likely because it's a CBS O&O, KDKA in Pittsburgh should air the game in its home market.  Assume the same in Baltimore with WJZ airing Ravens-Texans, and in Houston on KHOU.

Regarding the Netflix NFL Christmas Day games...as I mentioned a couple months ago, KCTV is simulcasting the Steelers-Chiefs game in the Kansas City area, and it's confirmed that KDKA will air the game in Pittsburgh.  As for Ravens-Texans, KHOU will air the game in Houston, and WJZ will carry it in Baltimore.  All four CBS stations in those respective cities will air these games, as confirmed per TitanTV listings; during the time when these games, CBS nationally is pretty much sticking with regularly-scheduled programming, both network and syndicated.

Netflix gets some creativity points for actually having a dedicated graphics package built around their logo (with CBS producing, I thought it was going to be just a rebranding of their graphics per the precedent of the Yahoo games from earlier). Though this scoreboard looks a bit iffy, almost like it's a preseason game on a Gray station.

 

Not to mention the preseason-like errors (such as the Steelers somehow starting the game with only two timeouts)

Super Bowl LIX is this weekend on FOX. They have only used the current graphics package for two full seasons since debuted at Super Bowl LVII. Could this be the year FOX uses the same look like CBS did last year? Or could they debut a new graphics package once again? I honestly think they are going to debut something new. FOX won't have the Super Bowl again for another four years so I think they will want to change up their look knowing it will be used for quite a while.

It would make no sense for Fox to debut a new package after only two years of usage. This is also the first Super Bowl under the new NFL TV contract, so if they debut a new package in the next four years, it’ll probably be during preseason, like they did in 2010.

 

Also, I can’t imagine many Fox affiliates are happy about seeing their daytime lineups interrupted on Friday for FS1 programming.

I just noticed this on the WSVN schedule. The hell? Already, this throws WSVN's Noon and 4pm news out the water for tomorrow. Why are they doing this when they have FS1 for this?

Well, believe it. FOX is debuting a new graphics package on Sunday for Super Bowl LIX after only two seasons with the previous package. The new scorebug design is definitely a surprise. Looks like they are going back to the simple boxed look from 2017.

Trying to push viewers to switch their sports rage opinion source of questions nobody asks from ESPN to FS1 by using the Super Bowl's momentum; all of these networks have lost the point of how to push viewers to other networks, including the Puppy Bowl now getting a Discovery and TNT simulcast while cannibalizing Animal Planet's own audience. Even last night the NFL Honors was simulcast on Fox and NFL Network, and for no real reason, it aired at 9pm ET to take out the 10pm news rather than the usual 8pm (ETA - Didn't know it was the season finale for Hell's Kitchen so it makes sense).

 

I'm sure the viewer feedback and tip lines at Fox affiliates have a few unhappy viewers this afternoon, along with Harvey Levin, who gets TMZ Live pre-empted.

That was probably because Fox had the Hell’s Kitchen season finale they had to air beforehand. The NFL Honors also rotates between the four Super Bowl broadcasters, with that year’s rightsholder to the game also airing the Honors (except in 2022 and 2023).
