susquvalleywgal 521 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Everyone: Here is an article from The Patriot-News in Harrisburg on the future of HD news in my market. As you all know, FOX43 made the switch last month and looks like WGAL and WHTM will go HD this year. Glad to see we are catching up here. http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/02/fox_43_leads_local_news_shows.html --Matt
TheNewsInsider 0 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 A couple of CBS affiliates are going HD. WFSB and KFDA. WFSB will be going HD this summer according to this link: http://dennishouse.wordpress.com/2011/02/18/wfsb-going-hd/ They will be the last ones in the market to go HD. KFDA will be the first station in Amarillo according to this link: http://amarillo.com/news/local-news/2011-02-18/local-tv-news-switches-hd They will be going HD on the 23rd aka this Wednesday. The article also mentions the other stations in the market and there progress.
TheNewsInsider 0 Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Evansville IN is joining the HD bandwagon. They will have WFIE be the first in the market going with HD News. Here's the link: http://www.courierpress.com/news/2011/feb/24/wfie-introducing-hd-newscasts-to-evansville/
jero23 105 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I live here. WRDW has always attempted to be better than they are, and most of the time they succeed. They were the first in the area to launch network programming in HD, they have always had over-the-top graphics and focused heavily on investigative stories. Naturally, even though in recent years their news product has been poorly produced (lots of technical issues, bad judgment), this move to HD and Automation has made them rebound. WJBF, does of course play a bit more big market, because they are Media General-owned, so all the stations under Media General are pretty much like that. WJBF was the first in the area to get an Automated master control. They were the first station in the area, so they have a clear advantage which helps them lead in ratings. Even when WJBF was owned under Spartan (before the MG takeover), they tried to make themselves appear to be big, and of course they do a good job at it. They too, like WRDW, have poor production sometimes. WAGT never had a strong news department, they first launched local news in 1995 (a good 15 years after they signed on), and the station has taken on many brandings, several different news teams, and graphics styles every 2 years, always has been last place in ratings. They still use the same set, minus slight updating, that they have used since they launched news. When WJBF took them over, they haven't done anything to help them survive and so it's kind of like -- why do you still offer local news? Watching WAGT is practically a big waste of time, their leads suck, typical of an LMA agreement, and when they have conflicting newscast times with WJBF, why would you watch them when you can get the exact same stories from a station that does a better job at putting on a newscast? I wouldn't call Media General a "big market" company at all considering how mediocre they can be with some of their stations to point it is embarrassing.
TheNewsInsider 0 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 In addition to WJAR getting a new set and going HD in April. A couple of other stations will be going HD. According to this link: http://www.arkansasbusiness.com/article.aspx?aid=125842.54928.137970 KLRT-TV in Little Rock will be going HD in May and join KTHV in HD News. According to this link WLNE-TV will go HD News this year when Citadel takes them over. Most likely beating WPRI-TV to HD. http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/2011/03/24/50057/citadels-ambitious-game-plan-for-wlne
tw-804 194 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Knoxville's WBIR will make the switch to HD in late spring, along with their newly-produced newscasts (10pm and coming soon, morning) on WTNZ. http://www.wbir.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=159150 http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2011/mar/28/wbir-takes-foxs-news-tonight/
susquvalleywgal 521 Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Add KLFY-TV in Lafyette, LA to the HD list. http://www.klfy.com/story/14448006/klfy-moving-foward Looks like they will be in HD by October ... I wonder if they will get a new logo. The hurricane logo now has got to go. One would think after Katrina they would've got a new logo. -- matt

Guest NewsHound Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 The first to Go with HD news in The Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo/Battle Creek/Muskegon ADI is CBS Affiliate WWMT Wow. The first part of the open in the first video really reminds me of the old open of WSB's first HD graphics... [YT]s3LMSQw-_Gg[/YT]
ProButtonPusher 230 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 The first to Go with HD news in The Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo/Battle Creek/Muskegon ADI is CBS Affiliate WWMT All of this station's video on the first YouTube link is rendered wrong for their servers, so everything is letterboxed and stretched to the 16x9 frame...nice.

semistatic 0 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Best temp set EVER. At least if they get thirsty, they don't have far to go
RGSJenkins 435 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Best temp set EVER. At least if they get thirsty, they don't have far to go I love the name of their break room "The Peacock Cafe". They should have use a temporary open, it would say "Live from the Peacock Cafe, this is KCBD NewsChannel 11, Coverage You Can Count On."
bhratbrat 437 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I give them creativity for using their break room as a set. I wonder if people walked in front of on the side of the camera of that set to cook their lunch.
roscoryan 21 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I'm somewhat impressed with KARK's new HD open - especially given it's a Nexstar station:
abric 181 Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 WFSB in Hartford finally switched to HD at noon today. Same music, but got some new graphics (designed by Giant Octopus). http://dennishouse.wordpress.com/2011/05/30/wfsb-goes-hd-tomorrow-at-noon/
