mediadorkx07 0
Michael Douglas. Seriously? It sounded like crap. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/2713-nightly-news-new-announcer/ Share on other sites
Ntropolis 596
Oh gosh, I heard it this evening... horrible indeed. Nightly News would sound really good with the guy who does the Sunday Night Football stuff... Jess 1115
A-friggin-men. Not impressed. If they wanted to go with a name voiceover, it should have been Brokaw or James Earl Jones. NYnewsFan 0
Here's an article about it. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/nbc/michael_douglas_the_new_nightly_voice__73238.asp And a video link. http://video.msn.com/dw.aspx?mkt=en-us&from=truveo&vid=d084224d-8445-4c4c-92b0-f846b2890ad5 What was wrong with keeping the legendary voice of Howard Reig even if he did retire? It amazes me that NBC News would rather pick a celebrity than a great voiceover talent. There are so many out there. It's just like all these commercials that use the voice of celebrities that no one cares about instead of finding a legitimate talented voice who would sound a million times better and cost these companies a lot less. (John Goodman and those annoying Dunkin Donuts commercials come to mind.) The opening of this newscast is now tainted by a crappy voice. Will they change the music when John Williams dies? ElliotJones 52
Was I the only one that heard "You have selected Microsoft Sam as this computer's default voice"? It sounds awful. allstar2003 0
Man, That sounded horrible. If they going for scare all the viewers away from the TV or put on the mute button on the open it will work just fine. nbc9houston 22
A-friggin-men. Not impressed. If they wanted to go with a name voiceover, it should have been Brokaw or James Earl Jones. James Earl Jones was the voice of CNN, BTW. Peter Graves would have made for a better voiceover on the NBC Nightly News. mediadorkx07 0
How long do you guys think before Brian ends his broadcast with his summary of complaints from viewers and announces they've decided to listen and go back to Reig? Mmmm by February is my vote. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/2713-nightly-news-new-announcer/#findComment-24286 Share on other sites
KRAP-TV 146
Here's an idea: CBS has Uncle Walter intro Katie Couric, why not have Tom Brokaw intro Brian Williams? clind 2
Wow, that truly is horrible! Even our local one sounds better than that, and we're something like #126 or something. swillh2k2 203
Probably one of the worst news open VO's I've ever heard...local or national. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/2713-nightly-news-new-announcer/#findComment-24314 Share on other sites
Amra 171
It SUCKS! A 5 year old would do a better voice over and nothing against Michael Douglas. Brian Williams should do it himself. newswatch 1
Amra, you said, "...Brian Williams should do it himself." From 1983-1993, Dan Rather did his very own intro to the CBS Evening News, even when the newscast got the first ever theme song in 1987. Not a bad Idea. Not a Bad Idea At All!!!!!!! RGSJenkins 435
I heard it, and it is the worst voice-over I have ever heard. He's sounds like he's eight. Listen at your own risk. newswatch 1
You know what would make a better announcer? Don LaFontaine The Movie Trailer King did more than contribute to NBC Promos. As he was doing promo voice-overs for CBS entertainment, he helped out CBS News during the Dan Rather years. Don would not only better open for Brian Williams, he would have the same caliber as the retired Howard Reig.
