Weeters 1969 Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 the "at 5:00" font looks like they just added it thru Final Cut Pro. smh The "at 5:00" and "Coming Up" graphics are default FCP templates. Do they also only have one cut of music?
alaskanews 122 Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Oh, yes, I got more opens to scare you with. Let's try WVLA in Baton Rouge. Open: Talent: Close: Woooooow... LiveType? Really? That's cheesy in high school productions, much less in something people actually watch (or are expected to watch)
l14dap 1 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Oh, yes, I got more opens to scare you with. Let's try WVLA in Baton Rouge. Talent: I find it odd in the talent bumper that the school bus is going in reverse...
alaskanews 122 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 OK, there are a bunch of stations out there with this graphics package, mine included and it can be done well and not so much... This one is the latter... Really? Using the "Live" bug for when the announcer says "live"? EDIT And an even worse version:

Weeters 1969 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Woooooow... LiveType? Really? That's cheesy in high school productions, much less in something people actually watch (or are expected to watch) A few stations around here have used it. WITI mostly, and WTMJ did last week. It looks terrible.
RGSJenkins 435 Posted September 27, 2010 Author Posted September 27, 2010 That has to be the strangest cut of The Tower I've ever heard. That's not The Tower, it's The Rock V.1 (morning version.)
C Block 1566 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I did a search in this thread and was surprised that nobody had really mentioned the Gannett opens yet. God, are these awful. [YT]NJDf6qHY88I[/YT]

cityprod 9 Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Two nominations, but only one video, I'm afraid. There is a channel called MyChannel that broadcasts on the Sky Digital platform here in the UK, and it has recently started it's own news programme. Called MyNews, it's a ham amateurish effort that makes my Viewpoint productions look half decent. It airs 4 times a day, at 1300, 1900, 2230 and 1000 the next morning. Sadly, or perhaps thankfully, there are no videos up on YouTube or anywhere else about this. At the other end of the scale, Sky News new look which came in with HD on Election Day here in the UK, is quite frankly awful. Far too flighty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndaMCtD2cz0
WFTV Channel 9 80 Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 KVOA 1998 Open: Seems too basic and I don't like how the 4 looks in it
Guest NewsHound Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 I guess it deserves to go in this thread as well. WJBF 1995 Open (JUMP TO 0:56): [YT]jSw04pEOWZg[/YT]
capsgm2002 65 Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 I think we have a winner... I'm not sure whether it's the Casio theme music, the "A-ha"-esque sketches or the sportscaster giving a thumbs up, but this is definitely one of the strangest news opens I've ever seen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ4cf3aDZrQ

That typewriter on Meeghan Black's desk is even really old for 1993.. I can't believe that's the same Monty Webb that was at WBBM 10 years ago..

Yes it is cheesy, but it's very 90's and (those of you who are old enough to remember the early 90's) will recall that the 90's were very cheesy in general.

Speaking of cheesy and very 90's, here's one from 1991. It sounds more like a talk show open than a news open. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDVfIh_AP_4
newsie 11 Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 I find it odd in the talent bumper that the school bus is going in reverse...Plus, it looks like there's no driver.
Samantha 2898 Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 The Delta's News Source would like to enter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvzesOcsCHQ (first one) 1. What's the name of the newscast? 2. In the talent open...holy flipping and squished images!
eyewitness_news 5 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 The Delta's News Source would like to enter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvzesOcsCHQ (first one) 1. What's the name of the newscast? 2. In the talent open...holy flipping and squished images! That's from WABG-TV Channel 6 in the Mississippi Delta. Tacky and unprofessional.
Samantha 2898 Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 When you use an open too long and need to modify it...this happens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHea_xnnGms (4:22 – the original) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUqKCYTX80U (13:05 – heavily modified) WTEN Albany heavily edited its original open from the early 2000s and still uses it. *Added digital IDs. *Cut out the middle portion. *New music package and voiceover. *Watch it loop at the end (when Scott Chapin says "The News Station").
15connects 4 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 WJCL/WTGS Savannah GA Not as bad as some of them.. but.....
Ntropolis 598 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 WJCL/WTGS Savannah GA Not as bad as some of them.. but..... That one's not too bad. Weird, but not terrible. Isn't their whole news presentation since becoming "The Coastal Source" non-traditional? I noticed that since then, from their website, WJCL has introduced a new look using graphics by John Christopher Burns.
Samantha 2898 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 jcbD and New Vision TV are getting really deep with each other...WKBN, KOIN, KIMT (there's no question in my mind about that one), and now WJCL. The package is OK. Lots of green and blue, with some virtual set elements (for weather). I'd like to see how he'd do KHON. I think that'd be one interesting look indeed.
