justin2kx 237
They only mentioned it on august 1st of this year to little fanfare, but they're celebrating it all this week. Included in the site below has four parts from the first show in '88. http://www.myfoxny.com/myfox/pages/InsideFox/Detail?contentId=7869899&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=5.2.1 More from TVNewsday: WNYW's 'Good Day N.Y.' Celebrates 20 Years Fox O&O WNYW New York's signature morning show Good Day New York celebrates its 20th year on the air this month, making it the longest-running local morning show in the tri-state area, according to the station. Beginning Monday, Nov. 17, Good Day New York will showcase a week-long series of special features, interviews and surprise guests every day from 4:55 to 9 a.m. Stories include a historic view of the city then and now — from 42nd Street to Brooklyn. Co-anchor Greg Kelly takes a look back at 1988 and shares how things have changed. Meanwhile, co-anchor Rosanna Scotto explores the fads and fashions, including what was trendy then and what has made a comeback. Scotto, who joined WNYW in 1986, shares memories of the show from its early days and Good Day New York's first anchor, Marian Etoile Watson, returns to recall what it was like launching the morning show. Scotto also revisits the biggest news stories of 1988. Surprise guests make special appearances as will some former Good Day personalities. Brett Larson takes viewers behind the scenes where it all began, showing what remains of the old set, control room and how the technical aspects of the show have evolved to the present HD world. A tribute to the hit television shows, movies and music of the 1980's culminates with a live performance by 1980's pop sensation Brenda K. Starr. Good Day New York also looks at the economy of 1988 and reveals the cost of everyday items 20 years ago such as a subway token, a slice of pizza, dinner and a movie, gas and interest rates. On Friday, Nov. 21, the anniversary week wraps up with a half-hour primetime special, Good Day New York: The First Twenty Years, featuring classic moments from the past two decades. The special airs at 10:30 p.m Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4699-good-day-new-york-is-20-years-old/ Share on other sites
Harry Houdini 0
As I remember it, that first pair of co-hosts only lasted about a month or so. Although you do see some of the nucleus that would become the best ever local morning news show ever in NYC. Thanks for the heads-up. nycprod 0
Did anyone see this horrific excuse for a half hour special? First of all the cable guide had it listed as 'Hamptons Film Festival'. Second, it took them 15 minutes to show a clip from the premiere broadcast. The first 'flashback' was of Rosanna and what she looked like in 1988 as a reporter for the 10pm news. How is that relevant to the history of Good Day? The pre-produced pieces were about the city and the news stories of 1988, with no clips of GDNY and their coverage of those stories. No 'memorable' moments to speak of, even during the Gordon Elliot interview. Could they not have shown a montage of Gordon door knocking?? And I loved Rosanna's line, 'some great anchors have worked on this show'. Turns out they didn't show half of them because they let them go, or forced them out by offering them sour deals, i.e. Lucy Noland and Chris Gailus. And no Jodi Applegate. She was the main female anchor on that show for 4 years, almost a quarter of the show's tenure. And finally, a constant, desperate attempt to convince us how 'local' and 'cutting edge' the show still is. 'It's New York through and through. When you think of New York you think of Good Day'. Please. I watched this show every morning in college in the 90's and it was those things, but today it's nothing more than a standard, cookie cutter, morning newscast that's no different than anything else anywhere on the local dial in markets 30-100. Very sad. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4699-good-day-new-york-is-20-years-old/#findComment-44183 Share on other sites
Harry Houdini 0
I didn't see it but I watched parts of the show this week and wasn't impressed. The chemistry they had in the 90's would be hard to, if not impossible, for any station to duplicate. Since they are going in a different direction and changed formats, maybe they are trying to avoid showing the mistakes they made by the changes.
