WNBC New Graphics & Set

It seems as if all of the stations here in New York are using a Gari themed package lol. 2 4 7 are all now a Gari Communications Package.

The set is nice and decent and simple as well. But should it be the replacement ?, no. They need to save that set for the 24/7 News Channel. I still think they should keep the one they have downstairs because I think it just looks better. They need to re-work that set as it was actually the nicest set in the market! And the whole idea of reporters sitting on their desks and doing the report to me seems a bit lazy and cheap, it is a great idea don't get me wrong but I think its better suited for that 24/7 News Channel that they are going to launch soon.

It also seems that WNBC is scaling down production costs significantly with this update because everything seems to more budget friendly unlike before. Like many people pointed out it does seem as if it's a smaller market. They should've at least keep the WNBC 2003 music package because I think it's way better sounding than this, and to be completely dead honest, I truly prefer their previous music over this one. Its gonna take a long time for me to get used to that... Some cuts are nice though, like the one they used for the Nightly News Open and also one of those bumper and tease going to commercial (whatever you'd like to call it) sounds pretty nice. So not a total letdown music-wise, but not amazing neither.

The newscast also feels unfortunately faster paced I guess its because with all of the flashing and animations along with the music itself which is at a higher tempo than the previous package. So I think its Its more of a "stepdown" than a "letdown".

My Overall Grade:

Grade B+

They are banging this new studio in viewers heads! We get the point!

Well you have to understand that not everyone watches all three broadcasts.

Anyways, the studio seems cramped and small. What will become of their old studio?

They should tweak the graphics size on the big screen. The weather on the big screen TV is kind of hard to see. The chart that Jay DeDapper had up for his story was even worse, you couldn't see the categories.

The set is nice; it reminds me of a smaller version of the NBC Nightly News Set. But I don't understand the cameras at the cubicle. If I was one of the reporters at one of those cubicles- I will feel so weird having a camera right there.

I think we will see a lot of versatility in this set. I have a feeling that the lights on the walls are LED and can change colors. The aqua and orange theme is very nice also.

Just a guess but isn't CNBC supposed to be moving into the Rock sometime?

I think Jimmy Fallon's show is supposed to get the old set...

And I doubt CNBC has a move in the works. They've only been at Englewood Cliffs for about five years.

I must admit that I really like this new look for WNBC. I especially like the new graphics. They are very fresh and clean.

I don't really like how the desk has the two seats on one side. They should have it like it traditionally is with one seat on one side and one seat on another.

I am going to have to get used to the music and the previous theme was way better than the current one. The intro, however, is nice and much better than the old one. It seems like the old one was very dark.

The one thing I do not like is how they now do the weather in front of the 103'' flat screen. I am just so used to seeing the weather done in front of the green screen, so it will take some time before I warm up to it.

Overall, I like it a lot.

Did they have to move the anchor seats? I like the male anchor on the right of the screen and the female on the left. Been done that way on WNBC for decades. Why, oh why, the change?

I have to agree with the folks who say that the new presentation looks amateurish at best. The weather now being done in front of a tv screen? No matter how big the screen is, it still loooks like a high school production.

WNBC has lost what it once had: A great newscast. Looks like they'll be relegated to the place that WCBS knows all too well: The ratings basement. By the looks of these changes, they better get pretty comfortable in that basement.
