ThunderJay27 45
It's reported by Laura Nachman and confirmed by CBS 3 that their Saturday morning newscast has been eliminated. (http://lauranachman.wordpress.com/2009/01/25/no-news-on-sat-morning-on-cbs3/) Also I was watching NBC 10 News weekend Today and John Blnt did the whole newscast by himself! News and weather, plus the Today Show local weather cut-ins. I know 3 said they did it to focus on the 10pm newscast, but are the local stations reverting back to the 90's or taking a cue from smaller markets and just gonna do the 6 & 11pm newscasts on the weekends and not doing weekend morning or noon news? l14dap 1
So that means they're still doing Sunday morning, right? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4965-weekend-newscasts/#findComment-46535 Share on other sites
Jess 1115
If funds are needed, weekend morning newscasts are the most logical place to start cutting. They don't get that much viewership and are usually expendable. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4965-weekend-newscasts/#findComment-46552 Share on other sites
Bars-n-tone 39
KYW is keeping the Sunday morning broadcasts (for now). As for the 10PM shows, they are doing it because it doesn't really cost them any more money. They use the same staff that's already in the building for the 6PM and 11PM shows. ib-td 1
My question, what markets actually have news developments other than a reading of the Friday or Saturday night crime report the next am? adamv2 21
My question' date=' what markets actually have news developments other than a reading of the Friday or Saturday night crime report the next am?[/quote'] Well this past Sunday, ch6 had to wake Vernon Odom out of bed to be live at 6:00am for the breaking news of the latest Coatesville fire, that destroyed 15 homes, which occured after all the local channels finished the 11:00pm news from the night before. He didn't look to happy to be up either. Probably the first time he had to get up for work that early, since coming to 6. alaskanews 113
Is there a station in Philly that is ousting it's weekend anchor, our 10p anchor is trying to convince everyone she is in the running for it but can't say what station because there is a lawsuit going on. You know what? WCAU and WPVI both have spots open for weekend mornings. That might be what she interviewed for. A lawsuit going on in Philly or in Alaska? Who is the Alaska anchor? As for current weekend openings, it's a bit complicated... 6ABC: Evenings: Rob Jennings anchors solo and has done so for over 25 years Mornings: Jessica Borg departed for NYC, so there is an opening here NBC10: Evenings: Kristen Welker anchors solo but just started doing so recently, no word on whether its permanent; male co-anchor slot has been open for a while Mornings: Lynn Berry has left for NYC, so there is an opening here CBS3: Evenings: anchored by Dave Huddleston and Mary Stoker Smith, but there are weekday openings (4pm) which none, one, or both may be promoted to plus Huddleston has started anchoring the 10pm news on CWPhilly during the week, so there are "potential" openings here Mornings: no openings FOX29: Evenings: Joyce Evans and John Atwater co-anchor; Joyce has done so for over a decade Mornings: no weekend morning newscast Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4965-weekend-newscasts/#findComment-46940 Share on other sites

The question was specifically geared towards weekend newscast openings. With that being the case 3 has no bearing in this conversation. The "opening" you refer to at 4PM doesn't exist. They've already stated that they are going to go with Chris and Susan at 4 for the forseeable future. As for 10, Kristen Welker is the permanent anchor for weekend nights and there hasn't been a second anchor for those newscasts (the position was cut) since '04. The other two were already mentioned. Blind? No. Dumb? No. Totally retarded? No. But words I can't use on this board describe you. Let me start with 3. I know Chris and Susan are currently anchoring at 4pm, but where is it said that it's permanent? In fact, I remember reading (note sure if it was at philly.com or on Laura's sight) that it's only a matter of time before Huddleston is named 4pm anchor. As for 10, where does it say Kristen Welker is the permanent weekend evening anchor? For your information, Aditi Roy has not yet been named permanent weekday morning anchor. Just because you see someone in the position every day or every weekend, it does not mean its permanently their's (remember when Anne Marie Green anchored weekend evenings on 3 for a long time, guess what... she was only temporary even though she had been doing it for like a year). As for the male co-anchor slot on weekend evenings, again, where has it been said that the position was cut. If I remember correctly, the weekend male anchor slot on 3 at one point was open for a while (after Tom Negovan left and before Chris May was hired, and he was only there for a bit). Seriously man, this board is for discussion. There is no need for you to snap at people and start calling them names and insulting them. Chill out. If you're getting upset over this stuff then you have issues. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4965-weekend-newscasts/#findComment-46943 Share on other sites

So, before you go all postal on someone else, think about what you actually know and what you do not.
