NYNews 54 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 I thought I'd start a new thread for changes at WPIX instead of having the discussion in the Linda Church thread (which by now should be closed off, how long has it been?) http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2009/03/19/2009-03-19_a_new_gig_in_the_pixture_for_senecal.html So this new gig for Toni on WPIX, is that suppose to be a local show, or it is being syndicated? The no more newspaper for resources at WPIX I think could be a good thing for the environment, in a sense ofgoing green. I don't see it as a problem getting news through the internet, (though let's hope it's from reliable resources). With Lisa Mateo grounded (i.e. reporting in the studio) what does that mean for Air11, or is there no impact at all, or do you guys think another deal is in the works for the station to share helicopters with another station?
eyewitness_news 5 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Either WPIX will discontinue the Air11 series to alleviate environmental conditions, or they will reduce the use of Air11. I don't think WNBC or WCBS will follow suit yet.
StudioTech 15 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Either WPIX will discontinue the Air11 series to alleviate environmental conditions' date=' or they will reduce the use of Air11. I don't think WNBC or WCBS will follow suit yet.[/quote'] The station was barely using Air11 at it is over the last few months. And AFAIK, it was only used once during the News at 10 in the entire 9 year history if Air11.
Geoffrey 873 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Either WPIX will discontinue the Air11 series to alleviate environmental conditions' date=' or they will reduce the use of Air11.[/quote'] I think it has less to do with enviromental conditions and more with economic and budgetary ones. (Which reminds me... The Waldbaum's near me has turned off some of the lights inside and regularly announces that they're doing it to help the environment.)
rtmclaug 70 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I doubt that WPIX will share helicopters with another station. Besides, if Lisa is in the studio filling in for Jill, Kristina Behr is up in the chopper. They could be making some upgrades to the chopper, maybe getting a new model (The current one is a Bell 206.) I just hope that no one loses their job because of this.

Tribune is in dire straights, hacking jobs across the country at ALL of their stations/papers etc and you think they're going to buy a new helicopter for Ch. 11? Come on, what are you smoking? I think they realized they were wasting resources having two traffic reporters. They want their on-air people to see viable to the company so they are reorganizing the talent. (i.e. not giving Tribune execs a reason to cut one of them) Jill has put in some time and has improved her on-air delivery so they figure why not use that as an asset and place her in the field. Smart move. But no helicopter purchase in the future I'd imagine.
civic110 20 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Kristina Behr was in Air11 this morning; she was on a lot when Lisa Mateo was on maternity leave...perhaps they've given her the chopper position?
IceManNYR 240 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I checked out the show on Tuesday to see the changes. 6am to 8am John and Sukanya are the anchors with the regular AM news show format. 8am to 9am Sukanya and Tiffany were the co-hosts. Craig did a news updates at 8:02 and 8:32am. John did an interview in that half hour. At 8:35am it turned in to The View's Hot Topics with a segment they call "Chick Chat". Sukanya and Tiffany chatting with Emily, Linda and Lisa. It seems Tamsen has gone from doing the lifestyle and woman on the street segments to regular reporter. Seems Jill takes over that role.
