Today (Tuesday 9/8/09) WABC had some technical difficulties during the noon newscast including: The Opening Bumper Freezing.. Going back to a live shot after a package didnt work (this happaned to both Jamie Roth and Marcus Solis) and Jamie didnt even realize till some one back at the studio told her.. I wonder what the problem was this time!

Based on he number of threads posted in this section, These random errors seem to be a normal occurence at WABC since their adaptation of their new automated system, which is often very buggy. I guess that is what happens when humans are sacrificed for automated computer systems, lol.

This is very true. Stations are buying more and more automation across the country, putting people out of jobs so they can save $.50 a year - in the meantime, their product looks very bad while the station "fixes the bugs".

Its amazing how much one piece of equipment failing can really kill a newscast...

Tell me about it.. This whole automated system has really screwed with WLS in Chicago which also recently just went automated. Opens getting cut short, wrong segment intros/stingers played, wrong graphics being shown, video freezing, cutting to commercials at wrong times, etc.. In the 17+ years that WLS has used almost all the same cuts for the same things of the News Series 2000 Plus music package, I've never heard so many of the wrong music cuts being used until now.

It won't be long before this whole automated system backfires.. I'm sure there's a self destruct mechanism somewhere in the system incase the TV station gets taken over by pirates or something and it malfunctions and just happens to blow up.

It's bad enough the robotic cameras at WFLD are going crazy on a regular basis and seem to just go random places in the studio whenever they feel like it and try to crush/trample the standing anchors in the studio (especially on Good Day Chicago).

Imagine that workman's comp claim!!!!!

All of these problems because of automation? One of the stations in my area of Pennsylvania -WTAJ(CBS) - uses automation for their newscasts and have had a very little ammount of technical issues. Nothing like what WPXI in Pittsburgh experienced 2 years ago (doing a "newscast" from their parking lot) and what WABC,WLS, and other stations are experiencing now. That's pretty surprising.

The problem is that it doesn't happen all the time, it occurs randomly, Last night they had a seamless broadcast, with little problems, but tonight they had a few issues, here is an example if you look at the video:

Scroll towards the end, you'll see what I'm talking about. You'll see some "special effects." Its pretty cool how Lucy just dissappears, lol. BTW, the story about the missing University Graduate is quite saddening... :( But overall they really need consistency...
