Micstromme 3
In an effort to promote the newest 4 pm newscast on WABC/Ch. 7, current lead female anchor Liz Cho will leave the 11:00 pm editions of Eyewitness News and she will co-anchor with David Novarro at 4:00 pm, while maintaining her 6 pm slot with Bill Ritter. Sade Baderinwa (who I love very much as a reporter/anchor) will replace her on the 11 pm show. What I would like to know is is there anyone out there that feels like this "opportunity" should be considered a demotion for Cho? I mean, I like the aspect of Baderinwa taking the lead these days, but at the same time, is her promotion to be considered Liz Cho's demotion? Note: If the anchor is happy with this schedule, then I am happy that she is happy, but if not, then this might be (considered to her) a demotion. Please weigh in here, ladies and gentlemen. almostthere 0
A 4 pm newscast will not work in New York City. It only serves to clip the numbers for 5 and 6p. They'll do this for a little while but then find another lead in for the 5pm. TellyGenic 33
As I understand it, Liz's move to 4 from 11 was partly at her own request, so that she could spend more time with her family - much the way Diana Williams did a few years back. IMHO, getting to anchor a brand new newscast is in no way a demotion - if anything, it means the station trusts her to get something new off the ground. Vlad 325
You never know, maybe it will work out.. Maybe viewers will stay with 7 despite the demise of the Oprah Show... Today makes the change about 14 Days away.. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7281-liz-cho-and-sade-baderinwa/#findComment-66166 Share on other sites
Micstromme 3
The reason that I raised this as a trend is because I was not at all aware of her request for a change in scheduling. In my honest opinion, while I am happy that Sade got the big promotion, I am kinda disappointed that Diana Williams will not be returning to the 11 pm newscast. To me, her and Bill Ritter will always be the A-team. (But the other (current teams are still good to/for me). I do hope that her new newscast is successful as it makes more sense now to keep it the way they plan to make it. What do you guys think? I do see that more and more, Liz is trying to emulate Diana. It is remarkable and I like that a lot. nynewsguy 66
Yes - Liz' move from 11 to 4 was very much her own want... WABC is sticking with 4PM for the long haul. It works out in LA, and the feeling is that it can work here in NY too, if done right. Will the numbers beat Judy and Ellen? No. And everyone at the station knows that. The key is just to keep people tuning in at 5 and 6 for the newscasts that they've traditionaly watched. Word is that ABC will be cancelling General Hospital at the end of the 2012 season, perhaps just in time for the launch of a Katie Couric show. The intent would then be to place Couric at 3PM and have that as a lead for the 4PM show. There are many changes coming to the look and sound of Eyewitness News at the end of the summer. New studio, new graphics, new music, etc. The 4PM will be a "work in progress" until they have the studio space to make it everything its supposed to be. Liz is by no means taking a demotion by moving to 4PM - as was said - both Dave and Kenny have confidence that she will help retain viewers and is the right female to lead the show. Much like Lori Stokes gets "head billing" at 4:30am and noon, Liz will as well at 4PM. nynewslover 277
Hopefully the changes coming to Eyewitness News will not hurt them because so far any changes made to NY Stations in the past few years have sucked... Obviously WABC hasnt even made small changes in the past years and now their entire afternoon line up is being changed.. I'm really looking forward to see where they go with the new 4pm newscast and the new look. A demotion?! It's more of a promotion for Liz and Sade. Liz and Sade each gain a half-hour on-air. Look at this chart. Bill Ritter: 6 & 11pm (1 hr, no change) David Novarro: 4pm (1 hr, up from 0 hrs) Diana Williams: 5pm (1 hr, no change) Liz Cho: 4 & 6 (1:30 hrs, up from 1 hr) Sade Baderinwa: 5 & 11pm (1:30 hrs, up from 1 hr) Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7281-liz-cho-and-sade-baderinwa/#findComment-66176 Share on other sites

By the way, Sade will have 35 minutes more airtime because the 11 pm report is from 11:00pm to 11:35 pm, with Bill Ritter. But either way, I like this lineup. Micstromme 3
There really seems to be some mixed feelings here. A lot of people do not like the idea of this news broadcast, not because Liz Cho will be a part of this team, but because they do not have the faith in a 4pm newscast. Now, when I first heard of this plan, I thought it was tad bit lousy because 90 minutes in the evening news race is far too much as it is (so I thought), as I did also think that the 4 and 5 PM newscast was going to be carbon copies of each other, but now I see the error in that ideology. On the other hand ppl are thrilled that this news cast is going into affect since it takes Liz Cho off the stations top broadcast and it saves the station a lot more money than that of a syndicated program. It really is just one those political things that happens in the news markets. I am a part of the people here that can't wait to see Liz and Sade both do their thing on their new assignments. I know that they will do their best to make the most of everything. Small note, (sorry for this rant of sorts), but I might also add that I am glad that Sade will retain her 5:00pm news duties. Her and Diana Williams appear to be a powerhouse and that is why I like that she is staying put on that particular show.
