Old school WFAA, from the early-mid 90

1992 6pm Open

Closing from the same newscast

I love the shot right after the Dallas City Hall shot, the one where the helicopter flies over the building and the camera is almost blinded by the spotlights on each of the 4 corners of the building. Excellent camera work.

John B Wells closing voiceover

Full cut of the closing theme

It's a shame, though: We may never know for sure who created that excellent music package from this era. I think it was TM Productions, who created the previous package before this one.

WNBC 1987, Edd Kalehoff, CGI, Don Pardo, who could ask for anything more:

That's the News 4 New York version with Fred Facey's V/O. Still great.

WBZ's

----beautiful animation [could you call it that?] accompanied by the classic "Catch 5" intro cut.

WEWS 80's intro---Just Gari's "Good News" and the Ernie Anderson VO make it worth watching. The bold graphics [TVBD?] only add to it.

KHOU 1991:

Gives me goosebumps.

WCBS 1984:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CWFjmaOK5c

Are you kidding me? Listen to the ending of the WBBM theme here...

WCBS 1986-87:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xI_PxAEL4bM

"Everything you need to know, because ANYTHING can happen in New York!"

WNBC 1982:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dVn7FeKGFc

Even better than the 1987 look IMO...

WPLG 1986:

Yes, it's Ernie Anderson again...

WXIA 1986:

Amazing...too bad this is the best video I could find on YouTube...

WFAA 1984:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgeAcAPGl9E

Excellent.

WFAA 1988:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFVr6hkutVc

Great.

WCCO 1985:

If just for the beginning part...

I'd also have given the original KXAS "Wall to Wall News" open or the WCVB "Big News" open, but neither are on YouTube anymore...

I would nominate this WFLA open:

Also, the opens that WBNS in Columbus used from 1996-1998, which I unfortunately don't have video of, but they used this cool 'glassy' look with the "News Source" music.

One of the best ever:

(w/ VO)

(w/o VO)

Agreed. I absolutely adored the Michael Whalen theme...it's light while still remaining "newsy" and the graphics are top notch.

Channel 11 before being bought by Univision. For 2001, they had the best graphics and music. Too bad it only lasted 1 year. Excuse the ad that appears at the end. And I didn't record that for the recort to the Department of Redundacy Department.

From WFAA:

Evolution...

[yt=425,350]XIe4MRqWxmY[/yt]

Propulsion...

[yt=425,350]LOIAPPASgE8[/yt]

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Somewhere, Chip Moody (11HG9HX290L.jpg) is looking down over the balconies of Heaven and smiling...

Damn right....and Frank Robertson did his best to imitate Kelly's hair flip from the 10pm show.

There's just something about that David Lowdermilk!
