WABC Eyewitness News 5PM and beginning of 6PM August 1987

KABC Eyewitness News July 1991

Looks like there was a couple year period where KABC used the '84 vintage Gari package before transitioning to the early 90s synthesized update.

I recently came across something rare on YouTube. From 1982, here is the first moments of a WNGE-TV 2 newscast and features a report from Jeff Eller which was posted on his YouTube account two months ago. WNGE's "NewsWatch 2" featured the classic KDFW/WCBS/WBTV news set that was used in the 1980s and includes the classic GE news theme package used by another former station owned by General Electric, KCNC.

If only GE had held on and invested in them like they did with KCNC. It seems like they were in the process of doing that, but then the sale to Knight-Ridder...

From sometime in the early 1980s, here is a promo jingle for WTLV-TV 12 in Jacksonville, Florida when the station was an ABC affiliate. It is entitled "12 Delivers" and is a wonderful promo that WTLV used when the station was about a year or so into its affiliation with ABC.

At :23 into the video, it includes a clip of some WTLV personalities getting ready for a newscast from their news set. The top part of the set features the "Action News" logo in the classic ABC news font style. From one of the TV screens, it shows the old "Action News" logo that they used when the station was an NBC affiliate during the late 1970s.

This was Hayes Productions work and the jingle and ID appear in the Hayes "Package of Packages". Thank you for finding that!

I think this would have been used as part of the ABC switch campaign. The box in the package shot says "Deliver by March 31". March 31, 1980, was the date WTLV began its 8-year odyssey with ABC.

WOW-L! That's right, a WOWL news open from 1989:

Never has the Toby Arnold KPRC package sounded so cacophonous. Also, the station slogan in the ID... "Write it down!" Were they that ratings-obsessed?

Speaking of WNGE, here's a station ID from 1981. Typically I wouldn't post something so short, but take a listen to who's doing the voiceover...

I came across a rare clip on YouTube. From 1985, here is a news open from WWNY-TV 7 in Carthage/Watertown, NY. The theme they use is from CBS' "We've Got The Touch" promo campaign.

OK, here's a WTHR 1986 open with "People You Can Count On":

Also, take a look at this. It features the unknown WTHR 1987 theme.. Notice the slogan at the end: "Proud to Call It Home":

I think we can call this unnamed WTHR package "Proud to Call It Home"

Here is the image spot:

another image spot with then WTHR sports director Don Hein:

and an open from this era:

Don't know how many stations were still making "There Goes That News Van, Again" promos in the late 90s; but KVBC decided that the 1998 public wouldn't find silent home film reels too dated.

Stolen straight from WVUE-TV in 1979! :)

Here is another rare gem I unearthed on YouTube. This time, we take you back to 1983 where WCHS-TV aired a story about Ray Elkins as part of their "Traveling West Virginia" news series. Take note of the theme that WCHS-TV used, Tuesday1. WCHS-TV used this as their primary theme for WCHS-TV's "Mountain State News". A year or two after this aired, WCHS-TV was airing newscasts under the "News 8" branding. This video was uploaded by a member of the Elkins family and showcases WCHS-TV's newscasts during this era.

Ahh! Great detective work. Wow did WTHR go through themes in the 80s.

It appears they only used "Hello News" from 1980-82. They moved into their current building in 1982 and I suspect that's when they picked up the KSL theme (News Specialists?). It seems they adopted the WBNS "People You Can Count On" theme around 1985 and used until 1987 when that custom theme debuted.

And on top of that they used NBC's affiliate theme from 1983. And debuted Great News either very late in 1987 or in 1988.
