KSLA News 12 at 10 open (November 1994; I can tell this is November 1994 because of the "Scarlett" split-screen credits at the start of the clip.)

One of the all-time great station campaigns, WJZ's "Pictures In The Skies". A campaign that, hilariously, Al Sanders did not like. "What does that mean?!", he would exclaim. That tidbit just adds to the campaign's charm, IMHO

And I might as well shoehorn this in too, a version of "Pictures" with the incomparable Ernie Anderson.

^^^^ This is a treat. We've never seen this style KTVK open before (although the theme lived on into the first iteration of the Eyewitness News era).

This was posted here many years ago, but since we're on the subject of Ron Magers' early Chicago career, it's perhaps worth revisiting...

KTCA, the PBS station in the Twin Cities, aired a long, thoughtful report about Magers several months after he had moved from KSTP to WMAQ:

Here's another report about a high-profile Twin-Cities-to-Chicago move, this time meteorologist Paul Douglas' high-profile switch from KARE to WBBM. Unlike Magers, Douglas did not settle in Chicago. He joined WCCO three years later.

Portion of a KUTV 1977 News Open (with Al Ham's On Top of It All... and you can see where Peru's Pantel got their influence from)

It's worth nothing that there are several full KUTV newscasts from the late-70's available from the University of Utah archives, though you'd have to be on campus or request these tapes.

Well, here's a full open from the same year (though someone cropped it a little too close):
