Much better than the horseshit of the last package.

Definitely gives an NBC News newsroom feel, and this totally tops KNBC and KVEA in Los Angeles newsroom. With this move WNJU and WNBC will be the final NBC Universal duopoly to share the same building. Now there still licensed in New Jersey so I’m sure due to FCC law they still have to maintain some physical presence.

This morning, the Fart Tank came back. If you haven't seen the original, it's still (IMO) the best Morning News bit they've ever done. https://youtu.be/NAesSGtlCqY?si=FnmKO77veXO3QUKv

EDIT: Also adding Jean Jadhon's final newscast at WDBJ 7 after 33 years. Its "retirement" season, y'all.

The gold one was one of the worst things ever devised by mortal man. Those colors belong in a 1970’s car dealership. The other one was good except for the silly flying box on the left. That got old after a while.

Scott Padgett also had his final day today at KTVT/KTXA after nearly a dozen years there before he makes his way to WCBS/WLNY.

Day 1 of the then-new WTHR Channel 13 Eyewitness News. New set (developed by Devlin Design Group), new music, new graphics, new name (the second stint), new logo, new everything. The first 90 minutes of WTHR's then-new era are here from Monday, May 8th, 1995:

My thoughts exactly. Who is the consulting firm that advised Scripps to strips their newscasts of any zest and turn them into generic waiting room/airport kiosk feed newscasts. Old Scripps packages had a lot more color and life.

Lonnie's absence from the CBS 2 11:00 PM newscast, as well as the national news is starting to feel a tiny bit suspicious. He came back like two weeks ago, then came back again this week. It will also be interesting to see Craig Allen on the CBS national news this weekend.

Despite Turner calling some early round games from the studio, I'll take them over ESPN, although i'll give ESPN points for being in Canadian cites during the 1st round. Turner's commentary (when they are at the rink) is great, Liam is a great studio host, and Kenny Albert/Edzo/Bouch is the best in the business, i feel like i'm watching NBC from their last season (Burke/Pang isn't a bad booth either). One way they could solve the early round issue is simulcasting HNIC in the first round

It’s probably to counter the stupid, over the top, full of yourself presentation of WDIV. And besides. It’s the best thing they’ve put out product wise since all the old folks retired. That and they can put out a cleaner product than WDIV, which it is, and try to capitalize on that sinking ship over there. Do I wish they had some of the old O&O style energy? Sure. It’s it the most mistake free in the market? Probably. This new music package with the goofy string sound just sort of repeats variations of that and it sounds kinda weird after a while. WFTS played about two minutes if it today and it really never even gets off the ground. It might make a great BREAKING NEWS bed but it’s kinda lousy theme music.

Didn't they do this already?

Normally I find a lot of the criticism about Fox Weather to be a little petty, but was kind of surprised having it on this afternoon that I don't believe they were live (during Fox Weather Live of all shows) at all and had no coverage of the tornadic storms blowing through the Washington DC area. Weird.

Lester Holt stepping down from NBC Nightly News
MorningNews replied to JosiahCubed's topic in Network News
Great retrospective of Lester’s NN tenure, it’s hard to believe 10 years has flown by since he was elevated from weekends. He’s always been one of my favorites. -

Another longstanding era in Green Bay news is coming to an end. Juli Buehler, news director at WLUK for the last 30 years, is retiring. She had actually announced her retirement back in March, but the station aired a tribute to her just minutes ago. https://fox11online.com/news/local/wluk-fox-11-news-director-juli-buehler-retiring-background-biography-tributes-bill-weir-jim-willi-jay-zollar-drew-smith-michelle-vetterkind#

I used to work with them here in the Bakersfield market. Talked to Jackie earlier today. They are thrilled to be moving back to California- specifically the central coast. I created the gfx below for social media.

Lester Holt stepping down from NBC Nightly News
Yayan4155 replied to JosiahCubed's topic in Network News
For those lived in East Coast, the final edition of NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt is aired NOW. The video will soon be appeared at the end of the broadcast. -
I hope WEWS gets on this wagon.

It was in my last Optimum bill. TBH, since Optimum added NY1, I've never watched. I don't live within the 5 boroughs. Now if News 12 NJ went back to it's hyperlocal roots and was live more than ~3 hours a day....

I like the look (7 day is gross). Music could use more "umphf" to it I think. But it's definitely an upgrade. Wasn't the current package (Scripps v3) purposely designed to only last a few years? I thought I remember that being a point of discussion here. It was new for the sake of new, but done quickly and cheap, and not meant to last 10 years.

Here's a retirement that I didn't know about: Todd and Jacqueline Karli have retired from WBOC-TV after nearly a decade there. They retired at the end of the 4pm newscast. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1158030996359732&id=100064585278189

I’ll offer my piece: CBS is probably in even worse shape than even the Tisch years. It seems like whatever plagued Viacom in the 2010s has finally claimed CBS (and to an extent, Showtime). As someone said, other than the NFL and college football and basketball, what sports does CBS have to hang its hat on? The Big Ten deal is a massive downgrade compared to those SEC years. They have golf, but post-Tiger Woods, it’s not really popular. Outside of that, it’s mostly stuff that would’ve been on CBS Sports Network a decade ago. Say what you will about the other networks, but they have a robust slate of sports like NBC with the NFL, the NBA, and likely the MLB. Or ABC with the NHL, NFL, college football, etc, all via ESPN. And then there’s the news division. Dear God, the news division. Between wondering who is anchoring CBS Evening News this week, the scandals with 60 minutes, and the curse of Captain Kangaroo that permeates the 7-9am timeslot, CBS News has been a joke post-Cronkite, but especially since Scott Pelley left Evening News and CBS had to revamp its morning show for the 5000th time. Oh, and primetime! Jumping Jesus, primetime! What is primetime on CBS like in 2025? Ten different versions of NCIS, FBI, and Blue Bloods, few if any comedies, and an excuse to give away Chevy Traxs and Hyundai Accents before the 11pm news. Yes, I’ve long accepted that broadcast TV is on life support. However, watching CBS is the equivalent of watching your elderly family member on life support and in pain. It’s that unbearable.
