Speaking of personalities, where have Ian Oliver and Steve Bender been? Ian hasn't been seen since doing the Hurricane HQ: Eye on the Season special, and Steve wasn't present last week and now he's still not here for the start of this week.

For some markets, that means local news in timeslots that wasn't available before, even if it's only on streaming (WNEP and KWES, for example).

All KTTC newscasts are already seen on KMNF with the exception of 6 and 10pm weeknights, I believe as simulcasts of KEYC. (KTTC's 5pm is not seen there.)

Nothing on social media either. Thankfully, there is a site called LinkedIn. According to the site, she has indeed left FOX Weather and is now a Territory Manager (whatever that means) for a company called Esperion.

I think this is just the reality of broadcast media today. ABC News has generally found the formula for success across their shows so there isn’t much incentive for deviating from it. Especially in a period where cost pressures are as pronounced and the shows continue shedding viewers. It’s notable that they didn’t really acknowledge on-air that they were leaving Times Square until 1-2 weeks before the move. It seemed very lowkey until last week. I set my expectations pretty low from there and in the end I like it more than I expected. That said: 1. I wish there were more physical elements to it. The only permanent fixture looks to be the anchor desk and the all screen format feels like “The Morning Show.” That kitchen set up sucks. 2. The studio looks massive, cavernous even and very empty. Some cooler tones would help. 3. Rooftops on that side of town are tough because of the wind but I really liked how they opened the 8am hour. Studio C is in the basement but how cool would it have been to have a GMA patio or some outdoor element to preserve that TSS element. The best part of all of it is the new logo inspired by one of my favorite visual eras for the show.

Somewhere between 6/3/2025 and 6/8/2025, Kendall Smith was removed from the Fox Weather Personalities page. I can't seem to find any videos featuring her after 6/3/2025.

I do wonder if they would do a test week with This Week; the thing I like is that the set does have adaptability with the screens, which are much better and clearer (we have yet to see the D&S nightmare palate though that goes with that segment). And it also has 'election night HQ' all over it; just a much more open space overall. And it looks like DeMarco and Eva are gone from GMA3. Bummer on that one. Expected it, but still wanted a few more weeks with them.

I don’t love it. I don’t hate it. It’s just there. Kind of like Scripps as a company.

The set looks much better on video. I was hoping they'd drastically revamp the look of This Week. At least their lighting has improved and the SD high sharpness looking camera shots now look smoother.

That's what happens when most of your daytime lineup is news.

Sorry for late saying about the new logo and set before, but it appears that the new logo resembling the 2002 one, albeit more modern.

A big problem with the presentation at KTLA and KTTV, from my perspective, is that they overwork their people. Micah Ohlman and Cher Calvin are on air from 5-7:30, then from 10-11:30. Meanwhile at KABC, Marc Brown is on air for a total of an hour and a half, maybe two hours a day. As for the political ... take a look at the social media presence of some of KTLA and KTTV's on-air talent. It's amazing they're able to repress their feelings on air as much as they do! I do think some of the political leanings come from on high at Nexstar and Fox, although it is somewhat tempered given the left-leaning population. KCAL/KCBS seems a little right leaning as well, but I think that's largely from having an appropriately adversarial relationship with the powers that be, which are, obviously, left leaning almost everywhere in LA County.

KEYC has brought back local morning news to the Mankato MN area as KATO Mornings after 7 months of KTTC doing it however KTTC will still be providing noon newscasts for both Mankato and Rochester.

The set layout for GMA3:

I don’t know what I was expecting moving to the market 4 years ago, maybe something more akin to WGN in the morning or KTLA morning clips I’ve seen in the past, but I was fairly surprised at the shiny plastic sheen, AM to PM, of KTLA. I know it’s Los Angeles, but sometimes everything in-studio comes across artificial enough to the point of uncanny valley discomfort. Also, I’ve found the political leanings of both KTLA and KTTV are both fairly obvious.

I"m surprised it took this long for a station group to embrace such a move. It puts ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates on the same level playing field so they can compete with the FOX/CW/independent stations running local news during this time. With sports pre-emptions happening more often (as TV is putting even more second-rate sports on at primetime), a station can stream at their normal time, and just playback the complete show when the event is over, or regroup if they have to do an abbreviated show on broadcast if they are filling the time for another live event. And with network affiliations becoming more of a gamble, it's an easy move to repurpose the shows should the network drop their station. Plus, not having to wait around for a live show would cut down on overtime. If it was important enough of a story, they would be live with breaking news, anyways.

Pleasantly surprised. This looks great! I love the waxed floor look of Disney's new studios and the warmer lighting on each set. This easily beats the sets of CBS Mornings and Today. It gives KTLA loft vibes. The anchor desk is the biggest improvement, no more infinite hall of mirrors look. I wish there were more physical set pieces instead of a mostly barren floor space but great set none the less.

WFAA recently launched a 7am stream a few weeks ago (originally during severe weather mornings, now daily). Won’t be surprised if they simulcast it on KFAA, as well.
