  1. TVNewsCheck posted this morning that WANE will expand it's Saturday morning show to two hours, from 7-9am. The change will go into effect March 26.

  2. Most people still look up when they hear the choppers. In San Diego KFMB offers rewards to viewers that find pieces of Chopper 8 (bolts, rotor blades, skids etc...) in the back yard... or a local park. One Spring Valley man even found a little dog on his roof.... Which to this day KFMB denies being "Flyer"...The dog that belonged to Jason Austell...who died while shooting a Chopper 8 promo.... RIP Flyer (for the last 400 feet)

  3. I think the big story is that Larry Perret is actually taking that dog station (CBS46) to better places as it seems to appear. Perret might consider buying in Atl instead of renting.

  4. I know rkolsen may go crazy when he hears this, but I caught the end of the 9am hour and it seemed that Steve Kornacki was hosting it and was throwing to Jose Diaz-Balart for the 10am hour. Could they be switching things up?

  5. You gotta Remember till early of '99 they only had and 12:00 p.m Weekday and Nightly 11:00 p.m. Newscast When Tribune sold it to Meredith and they invested a lot more than tribune ever did into the station. their old studios where small and cramped then they had their current building built in 2000. http://web.archive.org/web/19991231044839/http://www.cbs46.com/news/anchors.htm http://web.archive.org/web/19991230105502/http://www.cbs46.com/news/moving.htm

  7. Usually Feder is on the mark, but he sometimes needs to learn to pick his battles. Lord knows there are things to pick on at ABC 7, this really doesn't need to be one of them. To be fair, though, he probably knows what his readers will respond to, and most of them long for how things were in the 70's. http://www.robertfeder.com/2016/02/24/blizzard-of-hype-abc-7-falls-short-with-fake-snow/ Not one mention of how NBC 5 spent 5 minutes of the 5pm news taking viewers on a virtual test drive, shamelessly plugging the bells and whistles of 'Storm Chaser 5', or how Steve Baskerville on CBS 2 has become a Lonnie Quinn clone, rolling up his sleeves to make the viewers think he's so much more committed to his job and that the sky is falling. Really, if someone is so stupid to believe that that was a live image, I commend them on their ability to have gotten this far in their life. I know 99.9% of the snow we get doesn't change our atmosphere to a shade of baby blue. Plus, it's not like the station's other backdrops are accurate, either. It's not dusk at 7 and it's not still sunny at 4. There also aren't glassy panes floating through the sky. Are there some numbnuts that have fallen for that, too? And when is someone gonna start bitching that there's no rain in the graphical loop when it's pouring for real? Seriously, people need to get a grip.

  8. In that case, shouldn't Hearst own up to 50% of Me-TV? In part because of the Falcons' games on Fox 5 ATL (WAGA). Speaking of TEGNitis, WFAA is now struggling to keep their position as market leader according to the recent sweeps results, which were posted on the Feb 2016 sweeps post. There's no way that WXIA would drop the 11Alive branding again because just like in 93/94, viewers would still be pissed about the change in the longtime branding. However, a new logo for 11Alive is more likely. In large part because The Simpsons was a very popular show and was still in its heyday when WAGA and WJW rebounded.

  11. I don't like the new bug or that the L3 stays on the screen. I think if the bug was REALLY slow and changed less frequently it would be alright but it's too much for a network evening newscast. I do like the new L3 though.

  12. Can anyone explain the usefulness of having three newscasts in a row?

  13. I remember when WGNX was an Indy outlet had a 7:30PM newscast, before switching to CBS. By 96 the 7pm news move to 6PM. They did see an influx with CBS' primetime ratings, but I agree Meredith did do a lot more with investing in a new building, resources and more newscast. I don't see CBS46 moving Y&R unless CBS said so, because Y&R ratings at 3PM wins it time slot & beating WSB-TV. When your in last place you have to do some bold moves, and Y&R is a good lead-in to the 4PM news. I think another bold move for CBS46 would be to take Wheel/Jeopardy from WXIA. Also wish TEGNA would drop some $$$ on WXIA to be more competitive and maybe it time to drop the 11Alive moniker, but after 40 years would viewers really be upset because it no longer 11Alive? I know around 93/94 viewers were so pissed off about it no longer identify as 11ALIVE.

  15. News from Channel 12 in Market 12 from FTVLive: KPNX ND Sandra Kotzambasis resigned after the station had two bad books. Former ND Mark Casey takes over in the interim. Less than a decade ago, KPNX was the top dog in Phoenix. The two headed monster that is KPHO/KTVK can't be eating their lunch that badly these days (quite possibly KNXV may be the only bright spot in the Scripps legacy portfolio--no one ever posts the market's sweeps results anymore). Could it be that the station has caught TEGNitis, or isn't Vanessa Ruiz connecting with viewers that well? http://www.ftvlive.com/todays-news/2016/3/8/phoenix

  16. I think the reference was to the assertion allegedly made by Lisa's mom that Camille overworked Lisa. But, yes, add the Sarah Wallace situation to the mix, too. My problem with Shirleen is that, to me, she still feels young and inexperienced, especially when placed in comparison to heavy hitters like Ritter, Williams, and Stokes.

  17. WFTS is hiring a "Local Program Producer" and "Local Talk Show Host". It's a "non-news" show with the "primary purpose to generate sales revenue". My prediction from August 2014 may be coming true.

  20. There only 4 soaps Y&R contract up in 2017, and B&B is either up 2016 or 17. Days have a 1 year renewal with the possible following year renewal. ABC owns GH so it can cancel it anytime. However those soaps cost $50million to produce a year, so if the soaps make it to 2018 & beyond would be something. I think if these networks were to streamline the serialized drama, by creating new content, and airing them for 30 minutes they can be viable again, and make the $$$ the networks are use to. Court shows & talk shows are cheaper to produce, but the talk shows are not finding their niche like 20 years ago. CBS owns The Talk and Jules' show is safe. I think they want to get The View to the 20th season and possible cancel the show. However don't be surprise if there's a 21st season. Steve Harvey, Ellen, Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, The Doctors, Kelly & Michael, Rachel Ray, Wendy Williams (I don't know how how Maury/Jerry are still on) seem to be the safe, but every new talk-show doesn't last. If Harry Connick Jr, show is a success that good, but the studios/networks are looking to bring in big name stars... Oprah, Montel, Jerry, Ricki Lake, Geraldo, Jenny Jones were not big stars when they started out. They were known in their circles either local news/network news or whatever. I just hope Daytime landscape doesn't become a sea of just news. You have to entertain the audience, and give them something to escape from.

  21. It's apparently snowing for the first time ever in Chicago, and some new features are being rolled out at the ol' Circle 7 this afternoon. New today is an updated, larger area map bug, now including the time/temp and the station's hashtag. To make room, the school closing text has shifted left out of the safe zone (I guess some cable companies are letterboxing their feed, but my carrier has yet to make such a change). The bar also appears to have dropped a few pixels, not covering the L3's as much as before. Also new is a wintry skyline backdrop on the 7x3, that is remaining through the broadcast. It looks good from a distance, but is a little too vibrant and distracting in a close-up.

  22. Taking over for Mike Gonzalez who has been named evening co-anchor at KAPP/KVEW (ABC) in Yakima WA. Seems like a huge demotion, going from mornings in market 25, to a B-level station.
