  1. Historically in years past, it has always been the first Sunday in May. We shall see... with the game, anything is possible I suppose. Can't say I'm holding my breath though.

  2. So I was watching WFMZ online the other day ... My question is, how many news helicopters does WFMZ have? I see them talking about QUADCOPTER ... I just can't imagine a station having 4 helicopters. During a traffic report, I did see them go live to 2 different helicopters. Amazing, especially for pseudo-suburban Philadelphia. -- Matt

  3. What's rough is wanting to keep all this private...but you have no choice but to tell everyone because the second you disappear from the air, people will speculate and start emailing and calling the station. Yeah... Some are actual attention whores...even with cancer.. But most really prefer to keep this quiet however social media makes it worse sometimes.

  6. I definitely agree. And I've followed her on Facebook for a while now, and she gets quite a few...shall we say "strange" comments every post, be it a personal post or a weather post...

  7. Another cancer-related announcement, as WVEC weekend meteorologist Crystal Harper announced that she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkins lymphoma. Thankfully, in her case the prognosis is good as far as beating this cancer.

  8. Another Big Tegna Departure. Was mentioned in the shoutbox, but I'll mention it here. And it's not one, but two. KXTV has decided not to renew the contracts of its main anchors Cristina Mendonsa & Dale Schorack. No word on when the pair leave the station. Mendonsa has been at Channel 10 for 21 years, Schornack has been there for 19 years. That's a really nice way to kill what's left of your viewership. The bloodbath continues to roll at the Tegna outlets... Pitiful.

  9. Ready for another deregulatory measure? Remember back in late 2015 when congress added a rider to the appropriations bill that grandfathered existing joint sales agreements until 2025. But that provision didn't include keeping the JSAs when the stations changed hands. And Wheeler still made stations unwind JSAs during transactions after the bill went into effect. Lawmakers were pissed. This new appropriation bill (mentioned earlier this week) modifies its provision to protect stations with existing JSAs from either unwinding or modifying them in relating to station transfers.

  10. When he announced that he had cancer, my heart sank. I am keeping him in my thoughts and prayers. Jim Vance has gone through a lot in his life and I know he will get through this.

  11. Is that why station groups tend to be sold en masse rather than piecemeal? To make it easier for the governmental agencies? That's really weird.

  12. I read that 69.3 and 69.4 are being sent to KJWP. I can't imagine that they wouldn't leave space, somehow, for the Accu-weather Channel, considering the large staff they have for it!

  13. How can the paperwork be all that time-consuming? Do they have to do it entirely by hand and in triplicate?

  14. NOT rude statements, honest statements. Try to find a threat or a curse word that i see on other posts, you won't find any on my replys. Just because these "regulars" gang up and report people when they can't win a discussion - doesn't mean they are correct. Is that how this site runs? Whatever agenda has more people gets to be posted and the minority opinions don't get posted? I know this is a "Private" site and restrictions are NOT at ALL like the Freedom of the FREE PRESS that we all belong - but I have hardly come close to posting anything Nasty that targets anyone specifically that i see posted all over the message boards. Also, the people that are making these complaints have posted much more diabolical messages than I have - they are hypocrites. I've only been on since the beginning of the year, posting just a few dozen comments - if you look into the history of these people, I'm sure they have posted much more horrific things than my lack of patience for fluffy promotion of other colleagues - which goes on constantly..... especially when you get to people making up dream dreams of anchors on various stations - which we all know are people promoting, themselves under the aliases and/or their friends... i mean... shouldn't we all post what we feel? isn't that why there are user name aliases in the first place??? are we all here to say nice things only about people or are we here to post the truth? i mean, we're in the News Biz- shouldn't everybody here post the truth and NOT be afraid if it offends anyone? seems like there's more lies than truths posted here. What about the posts of people sharing news on the misfortunes of other colleagues? should that be banned? well, I don't repost negative articles, I don't curse and I don't make threats- so if anyone is offended by any truths - that's their problem NOT mine. I mean, this is the news business - do you expect me to believe that any of these people would go to News managers to complain about any of these comment? NO - they'd be laughed out of the newsroom and they would get the silent treatment from coworkers if anyone found out the trivial comments the complaints are being made about. Should we only have News Programming that talks about nice, pleasant things like we post on FB all day? NO - a show like that would never get any viewers. the News Biz is one of the most PHONEY, Cut-throat, back-stabbing businesses there is - NONE of what I have posted even scratches the surface of the reality of TV news behind-the-scenes.
